All I can see is Sean Penn driving around the town staring at Mary Stuart. This opening scene was haunting but beautiful. Great movie, even better song.
The winter of 86-87 I was dellivering morning papers. Blasting Madonnas new True Blue album on my car stereo, more exensive than the car. In the middle of the night all alone, no one outside, drifting around with my Volvo 240 on the newly fallen snow. When that old music plays the memories returns.
I miss the old days very much , riding dirt bikes, bonfires, parties, going to the beach , I’m 60 still riding dirt bikes four wheelers still doing bonfires and still rocking out 👍
I had the original song on cassette tape back in the 80's. I miss the 80's so very much. The music, fashion, cars, and movies were pure magic. If you were lucky enough to be young in the 80's, you know exactly what I'm talking about. This brings back so many memories, bolth good and bad. Thank you.

Please hang in there honey, I lost my Jared 7 years ago, He went down south with a woman old enough to be his mother. And I thought that he was gay but he wanted me but only when I helped him out. I was devastated and even had Suicidal ideation for a whole year. But I made it and I am so much stronger. I still haven’t found the right man but I know he’s out there somewhere that will love me and treat me good.
ramiro time does heal all wounds !! You can’t see it when you are living in darkness. But it happens when you loose all hope. The despair will ease up first, then after that phase , comes healing and hope comes back also. Then you move on slow !! And then it’s a lesson learned !! And you feel so much better !! And the sun can shine on my face again !!
Definitely her most beautiful song, I agree. Her song "Don't cry for me, Argentina" was a close second. Then her song "Express Yourself" is her third best. Of course, just my own personal opinion. Greetings, everyone, sending you all of my well-wishes for you, and I hope you have a good & prosperous life. Peace to you all, for always. ❤
There's alot of 80's songs that "bring me back" but there is something about this one that just hits my emotions hard. I can't stop listening to it. The composition of this song is like no other. Very emotional even without words. 😢
One of my fondest childhood memories is of washing the dishes when this song would come on...and my productivity would grind to a halt. Her song would completely engage me and not let me go until it was finished. Ah, the 80's. :)

This reminds me of when I was working as an EMT in a busy ER in the city of Chicago. I was in Paramedic school and I thought the job would provide experience and great insight. It was one of the most challenging experiences I faced. I kept most of the experiences to myself, with the exception of those in the field. I became an EMT at 24. I turned 42 this year. I am now studying to work as a Surgical Assistant on a Trauma team. You wouldn't believe what my eyes have seen.
Madonna is the greatest female balladeer in the history of contemporary music. She does not need the puffery of the additional 'classical' insersions to a great classic.
The 80s were the best for music that spoke directly to the soul. 1986 was a very bad year for me too. I almost committed sucide on July 6, 1986. Turing 45 this year. I was born in 1977, I went through one hell of a lot in the eighties, Anorexia Nervosa from 18 months old, at the age of six I was put into a Child Physiatrics Unit for six months, that was tough, really tough! Missing six months of regular junior school played absolute hell with my mind & being reintroduced was a trauma in itself! But the music & the films of the eighties helped me through! It’s a battle I will never fully win! I have accepted that now, but then being diagnosed as having a degenerative Neurological Disease at the age of around twenty really put me into a dark place, but the music from the eighties helps. I was told by my Neurologist that it would be a miracle if I saw the age of forty, well I am now 44, so miracles do happen. On my second marriage (4 years today) so if you do make a few blunders at first it is possible to still meet “the one”. Take good care, good things do happen to good people eventually…
Wow, this sing still touches me. "Live to Tell" relates me to very painful experiences in my life through which I endured. I'm BLESSED to be alive to tell--& learned lessons a long the way. Wonderful song with a deep meaning.

I bought the movie through Amazon and I never get tired of watching it; that era was very similar to how we grew up and how people were..families and communities...Senn Penn was so very good in this film.
The movie At Close Range and this song Live To Tell has very special meaning to me. I knew and grew up around the Johnston Brothers and their associates for whom the movie was about. They were also my neighbors. I just wish they could have made the movie longer. Also, people can say and think what they want about the Johnston Brothers, but they were some of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet. Just don't cross them.
*there's something about this song thats brings me back to when i was around 5, sitting on the floor and my mother listening to it on the radio. Hits me harder. I even can fell the air of that evening. It's oddly amazing. Thats the first song I heard of Madonna and the first one song ever that really got my heart. I felt in love even couldn't understanding the lyrics. For some reason, I just felt in love. And this version, dude, when you said "epic" you didn't lying at all*
Riveting and soul stirring. Can never turn this song off until it finishes. One of my favorite tunes from the 80s. It's a representative of when music seemed to really have a place in the very fabric of life events. I'm 59 now and can honestly say the 80s were a time when I seemed to reach a point in life when preparation began to meet potential. The music of that time period served as a scaffold or skeleton for the attachment of many life events, both major and minor. I had much less then in the form of money, possessions and most importantly responsibilities. I also had many more anxieties about what the future held but the "music" always had a way of providing relief and escape. I know you've heard it before but wish I could go back and do it again.I really miss it.
Glen, you said it all. It feels like, even in these days, these kind of songs still reach out as some sort of "scaffold" for what we want to accomplish and for where we want to be. Agreed.
I remember the 80s. Yes, the music was an escape into another realm. Back then it wasn't all crazy/happy/funny hair styles, etc. It was the cold war then and always some fear of atom bombs/war. That's entirely forgotten, almost, about the 80s. There was always the good music that took one away from all of that. Miss those days though, sniff!
LOVE this you reflect on your life and things you have gone through places you have been to people you have saw friends you have jobs etc i turn 41 in sept 2020 and sitting here reflecting on life
Another achievement in POP music - one of the best songs of the 80's - sweeping, enthralling, engrossing and controlled - and the vocals came from the original demo which she never re-recorded - a career defining song that is still relevant almost 30 years later!
This song brings back so many emotions, but I am so thankful for this song surving alot of pain growing up in the 90's thank you so much.I can never repay you enough.
in this context i can t repay madonna enough for allowing me to start processing emotions that were buried for decades. thank you for your insight/s :)
Some of you won’t understand what I’m about to say but some of you will. I was not alive in my current body in 1986 but I know and can feel this song. I was alive in 1986 I know it and some of you know you were as well. We are born again…

Sometimes it gets so hard to hide it well

I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'till then
It will burn inside of me
The truth is never far behind
You kept it hidden well
If I live to tell
The secret I knew then
Will I ever have the chance again
If I ran away, I'd never have the strength
To go very far
How would they hear the beating of my heart
Will it grow cold
The secret that I hide, will I grow old
How will they hear
When will they learn
How will they know
A man can tell a thousand lies
I've learned my lesson well
Hope I live to tell
The secret I have learned, 'till then
It will burn inside of me

I bought the movie through Amazon and I never get tired of watching it; that era was very similar to how we grew up and how people were..families and communities...Senn Penn was so very good in this film.
Madonna is Madonna! A truly remarkable diva.outstanding voice. Thank you!
What was the ol man like? Hes a real piece of shit but interesting at the same time.
really??? How interesting. I've become a bit obsessed with this film again. Such a haunting, heart-breaking story.
Liar
Absolutely 💕
I was 4 years old in 1986 but a very musically sensitive child and I noticed this song as it forever sank it's way into my young mind.
LOVE this you reflect on your life and things you have gone through places you have been to people you have saw friends you have jobs etc i turn 41 in sept 2020 and sitting here reflecting on life
God I love this version of "Live to Tell". Thank you for bringing it back, Mija....
i love this song absolut ever one of my favorite, never tire aboit it.
Beautiful arrangement and talented musicians. I especially like the acoustic portion.
Yes this song has meaning for all of us who have carried secrets and kept them

Some of you won’t understand what I’m about to say but some of you will. I was not alive in my current body in 1986 but I know and can feel this song. I was alive in 1986 I know it and some of you know you were as well. We are born again…
Masterpiece. Really heart felt music & song.. I hope to live to tell how good this really is to all I know in life !
The absolute best version I've heard 😮😊❤❤
Pure nostalgia here. This version made me cry cause i have a secret that i hide. Even i i ran away i wouldn't have the strength to go very far.
I have a tale too. Would you like to hear mine?
Me too man, me too.
Three songs I will never never never get tired of listening from Madonna: Vogue, Like a Prayer and Live to Tell.
She's a legend and no one can beat her..until now she's still the best female singer in the world ❤
This song catchted me in the middle of 1986... and this version did it again.
Marcelo Arroyo - L. 1986 I remember it well...actually I don't because I was born in 1986! but 80s are better than now. Nowadays suck.
Holy crap I was expecting some butchering of one of my favorite Madonna songs, but this is simply divine! Thank you so much for this!
Has to be my favourite Madonna song ever. I remember when the original version was first released
