Once again a great tutorial Rick! And so cool you mentioned Nick 👍🏼 His tutorials are also great and I learned a lot by watching his and your videos!
Thanks!! Nick is amazing and I really owe a lot of my learning to him!
My daughter is going to LOVE this. Thanks Rick for helping us!
I'm just getting into designing and really enjoy your videos. You make everything look awesome and easy haha ... I find myself rewinding the video 3 or 4 times to keep up :)
Keep up the great work ill be going back through your previous videos to improve my Inkscape skills as time allows and im really grateful they are here.
YESSS A TRUE LIVE MIRROR! Thanks Rick I can’t wait to update Inkscape now
The Live Path Effects are really fun. Have a good time playing with them when you update!
Thanks Rick, awesome as always.
Thanks so much!! Had to revisit this one to show the 1.2 changes.
Wow this was super cool.
I use inkscape for my laser designs for like 4 years now. I'm so mad that I found your channel just yesterday but at the same time I'm so happy that I found your channel at all :) Now I have to watch all of your videos cause I know I will learn a lot. I saw few Nick's tutorials but I didn't catch the "alt selection" :) Omg, it's like another christmass present ^^
This changes everything! Thank you for making this tutorial
Thanks! I think you're right - 1.2 is a game changer.
I am pretty new to Inkscape and I am still trying to wrap my brain around everything it can do...I watched this entire video with my mouth hanging open, just in awe!
Thanks for this tutorial. Had been trying to find one that showed this method. Fab job
Thank you for making this awesome tutorial. I just saw your previous Mandala video two days ago. I am fairly new to Inkscape and loving it. Thank you for making such great tutorials.
Thanks so much!! Inkscape is pretty fun, and I wanted to show how 1.2 does the mandala technique even easier.
Amazing!!! Thank you, Rick!!!! 😍👍👍👍
Thank you!! These are really fun to set up and let imagination steer.
This is awesome!! Thank you Rick!!!!👍
Thanks!! I like this new method.
What a great tutorial, learned a lot of possibilities. Thank you so much Rick!!!
Thanks!! 🙏
Love your tutorials!!!!
Thank you!!
Oh my gosh I am so chuffed & so mortified at the same time lol with how mine turned out - completed on newer version & couldn’t find bezier tool - it’s just the pen tools in new version I think..loving these tutorials thank you :D.
OMG you blew my mind. Thank you so much!!
Thank you very much!! Just made an update to this in a new video actually.
Wow...thank you!! This was great to learn!
Thank you!!
OMG. Now I'm going to use this method for laser cutting a multi-layer paper Mandala. Thanks IronEcho for your concise instructions.
Cool! Thanks, and have fun with the laser cutting designs. Inkscape is a good tool for that.
God Bless You. Thanks for teaching good tips using Inscape. I am sure there is many more but we don't know all until try and use it more.
Happy to make these and help anyone who wants to learn. Thanks!
Awesome tutorial to get started. Thank you.
Thank you! Have fun with it!
Excellent, I've seen this method in illustrator, been trying to figure this out in Inkscape, thank you :)
Thanks so much!! I love the way Illustrator does it, and I was trying to do something like it in Inkscape.
Rick, you are the master of doing it easily
Thank you! I learned from some good instructors.
A-MA-ZING!!!!!!
Thanks!!
Thank you very much. Awesome. 👍 I used Ibis for my mandalas to sell them. I will try it with inkscape now. Have a nice day. 🙏
Thanks!! Have fun trying it out with Inkscape!
Great tutorial! Glad I found this channel. I will definitely subscribe right away
Thank you! I'll keep making these!
Great tutorial, sir. This is simply magic! 😉
Thank you so much!!
Thank you.
This is fantastic! Thank you so much. I was looking for something so I could make original snowflakes and mandalas for laser engraving and cutting. This is perfect!
Nice! Thanks, and snowflake design is a great idea. Mind if I use that suggestion for a video this winter?
@@IronEchoDesign Yes, please make a video on snowflake design. I'll watch it for sure. +1 subscribed. 😀
Thanks! That should be a fun one. I'll practice a bit before winter hits, so I can get the steps down.
Brilliant tutorial, thanks.
Thank you so much!
Fabulous ...
Thanks!!
Very nice. Many thanks
Thanks so much!
Pretty nice of you to mention Logos by nick!
I love your content!
This is such fun. I am making lots of wiggly lines repeat all over my page and connecting them up :) This also looks like a potential way to create the scaffolding for celtic knotwork so I expect I will investigate this further. Thank you for the clear tutorial.
Thanks! These are so much fun to make!
Wonderful tutorial as always, Thank you👍Also wondering if you can make more video about everything inside the extensions menu, I supposed it still has a lot to explore.
Hello Rick. You've been my teacher for some time now, and I enjoy your tutorials so much as you speak slowly letting us match your speed, allowing us to see where your cursor goes and be able to follow your instructions. In this video, at timestamp 5.40, the end point that you move refuses to move on my laptop 😢. Instead, the other end moves 😳. Please guide me as to where I'm wrong or different 🤔🙄
amazing !!!!!!
Thanks so much!!
Fantastic, much faster workflow. This could be done before, but from the objects tab instead of the layers tab and was way less intuitive. Thanks for the video.
Thanks, and you're so right. The new Layers Tab is much more intuitive. I really like it.
Wow! Ty Nick. I can't wait to make this into an embroidery quilting design. I bet it will auto digitize soo easily!
Thanks!! Hopefully it goes smoothly!
@@IronEchoDesign , it came out great! I made a simple, pretty Border Design for a Quilt or Handbag. I actually just made a video for someone, and this Design just happened to be on my screen, so it is in the Video. Here is the UA-cam Video link: ua-cam.com/video/OdLdgZziRPU/v-deo.html
That's so cool! Nice work!!
@@IronEchoDesign , thanks! :)
Thank you so much
Thanks!!
awesome👏
Thanks!!
Your Videos are very helpful, thank you and many greetings from Germany
Thank very much! Vielen Dank!
Now we are pro 😘. Thank You.
Thanks! Always leveling up!
Thx u r so amazing
Thank you!!!
This is a massive help! Is there any way to arrange it so lines can't overlap the rotation "segment"? Maybe using a clipping mask or something?
Good job 😍 , i like it , i want more
Thanks! I’ll make more!
Thank u, always learn something new.
Thanks!! That makes 2 of us.
Please, teach decorative border with space &...
W😲W, nice feature
Thanks!! I like doing these.
Good stuff
Thanks!!
Just WoW ... I'm new to your channel this is awesome. i Think this gonna cost me some hours again watching video's... keep up the good work thanks in advance 🙂
Thank you so much!!
I love your videos so much I am now taking notes! One question: Did you ever figure out why lines double up in the final editing step? I know someone already commented with the same issue, but I didn't see a solution. I enter the group with the path effects, and as soon as I add anything it doubles the image. While I sometimes end up with some cool effects, I would prefer to have control over effect. Help!
Than you! Great tutorials they have helped! job! Ido have 1 quetion why do Iget 2 lines showing up when I add 1 line?
Rick. Thank you for this tutorial. I managed to follow it along although in the beginning I lost a lot of time trying to find the document property button, that I was unable to find, I do have the Inkscape 1.2 but I don't see any of the buttons you have up there in the two lines below the menu. But I finally found it under File menu. I am new to Inkscape. *** I would like to ask you for a tutorial on how to make layered mandalas for laser cutting or 3D printing using Inkscape. Also Is there a way to modify the path effects after they have being set up? I was unable to find them, they disappeared from the left panel. For example if I want to change number of copies after I started the design and I want to see what happens to the design if I change the number of copies.
FINALLY!! A tutorial that makes sense!! Thank you!! What would be the best way to save/ export as SVG?
Thank you!! You can save as an Inkscape svg with File- Save As. To export as a a PNG has a couple extra steps. Here's a detailed video on how to do it if it helps. ua-cam.com/video/Dn0F5TMbSQg/v-deo.html
Hey Rick great tutorial ! i learned a lot ! can u make another one combining mandala drawing AND knots effects ? i also would like to use generated maze into the mandala is that possible ?
Love all your tutorials. I'm using version 1,3,2 and when I add extra lines they are not formatted as the previous set, so I have to reset the stroke and style for each new path.
Also, I cannot duplicate what you did with the space bar to duplicate circles.
Thank you so much Rick. I'm a beginner but I downloaded Inkscape 1.2. I discovered my path effect is not letting me select more than one item at a time which is making it a bit difficult to follow along with the tutorial. Please how do I fix this?
Great tutorials Rick!! Magic!!! I'm would love you to make a video showing how you can put a Mandala effect on an animal drawing. Say a whale or an elephant. Obviously the external outline (perimeter) of an animal or other objects is not symetrical but still; I have seen all manner of animals, etc., in adult colouring books (for example) and they appear to be very popular.
LogosByNick is great, but you are doing a great job too. Keep up the good work! See ya when I see ya.
Thanks so much! He led the way and I'm trying to keep up!
@@IronEchoDesign you doing great!
Subscription added 🙂
Thank you!!
OMG this is so cool. I haven't updated to 1.2 yet because I am kind of afraid, I don't feel like I have down the basics yet. And when I follow older tutorials, I might not know where the new buttons are.
Thanks! I thought about this a lot before switching over to 1.2 myself. I didn't want old version and new version to make videos confusing. A lot is the same, but you're right- some of the toolbar changes will make it harder to follow across versions. I'll try to make note when explaining.
Thanks. This is cool and exactly what I wanted to learn how to do. But when I have all of the lines selected and go to "path effects" to select mirror symmetry the program says "Only one item can be selected" and it only works one at a time.
i thought the same thing but forgot to group the lines together before choosing this option
Excellent.
Thank you very much!!
@@IronEchoDesign You're most welcome.
Thanks for the video!
Thank you!! I'm liking 1.2 and the new stuff.
@@IronEchoDesign I haven't got to play around with it much. But, I'm liking the updates I've seen so far.
Awesome! I'm in the coloring book niche and always wanted to create mandalas in Inkscape. You make it look so easy. Please make more videos on creating mandalas and even patterns for coloring books. Thank you in advance.
Nice!! Coloring books are very popular- I'll see if I can get a coloring book video together. With the new multi-page feature, I wonder if I could make a whole themed book???
@@IronEchoDesign Thank you, that would be great. Looking forward to it.
Assalamualaikum. Your Teaching Method is Perfect for Beginners. I Think you Should Upload More Videos. Waiting for Next One.
Thank you so much!! I'm filming the next one tonight, and if I can edit it quickly enough I'll upload today.
These tutorials are invaluable. I have no prior knowledge or experience (besides setting a filter on my phone or canva. These are really helping give me a starting point. Thank you so much
Thank you!!
I'm not sure if you'll see this, but what are the "4 corners with arrows" called? I haven't figured out how to get all of the icons like you have on your menu so I'm searching through all the menus every time you say to click something 😅
They're called transformation handles. The menus can be confusing because they change with each Inkscape release- this video was made using version 1.2. Also the tools shown in the top bars change depending on what you have selected. To see the transformation handles, you could choose the Edit-Paths-by-Node tool or select the object itself. Hope this helps!!
@@IronEchoDesign thank you! I actually have no icons at the top and I can't figure out how to turn them on. So I just have to pause and search for names through the drop downs. Lots of hair pulling, but I'm getting there!
Was so proud of my little watercolor egg 🥰
So good, really good and helpful tutorial. Thank you.
Thank you!! I'm liking version 1.2 and its capabilities.
@@IronEchoDesign 1.2 is good and all but it's laggy a little bit, I hope they release optimization updates.
Laggy- I see that. My computer renders even color changes to an object with tiling seen on the screen. That was a bit to get used to.
Amazeballs....That's all i have to say!
Thanks!! That's awesome!
Can these be changed to a path with nodes? BTW you're doing a great job! I'm looking forward to more 1.2 tutorials.
Quelles sont les dimensions que je dois faire pour un livre coloriage mandalas Pour le publier sur Amazon kdp s'il vous plaît ??
Thanks, working great. Just curious - when I have basic mandala and I am drawing additional lines while my group is open - it works, but it always draws line 0,265 mm wide, even if I set previous to 1 mm. So I have to adjust line width every time I add something to mandala. Second - how to fill with colors? I tried it, but it only fills some of parts, others are filled partially. Can it be done?
Another great tutorial. THANK YOU. When I select one of those lines and move it into position against another , it is not snapping to the edge of it and I find it very hard to line it up, it is ethier overlapping or just shy. I have now added my tablet and pen and that does not help either. Is there a trick to this ?
I might have found a bug or limitation. Doing more testing
Great tutorial! I am not getting my circles fill or duplicate while pressing space bar. I tried turning off/on snipping option too. is the other way to have circles fill?
Are the circles complete? Like a full, closed circle? Sometimes the arc function messes things up. Or, is transparency on? Check on the Fill and Stroke menu opacity slider towards the bottom. Sometimes the Fill is off, or fully transparent, or set to white. Let me know if any of these are on track.
@ 7:51, you used the Pencil tool and it adopted the thickness of the Bezier lines but mine keeps going really thin...
Is there something I need to do to have it behave as yours did?
quick question, I'm getting a duplicates after starting my mandala. I created a circle at the same stage as you did and each time I did one, there was 2. very annoying when I want to manipulate it. Do you know how i can turn that off?
Do you have a tutorial for creating multiple layer mandalas for layered laser cut files?
Nice tutorial Rick. I usually make islamic geometric pattern ( it's quite deep and interesting technique) using Inkscape using rotate copies. Will try this technique. Thanks for sharing .
Thank you so much! Geometric patterns are my personal favorite, and I've been practicing variations of this. Works in progress.
@@IronEchoDesign Good to hear we share common interest. 🙂 I try to simplify designs from books written by Jay Bonner, Eric Brough. They have great books. Samira Mian ( UA-cam channel) is also good.
Looking up Eric Broug and Jay Bonner right now. Their work looks amazing. I'll pop over to Samira Mian's channel now. Thanks for the recommendations!
Wow I love this
Thanks! They're fun to make.
@@IronEchoDesign and thanks for giving us these tutorials.
As a person in laser business, buying each and every mandala file can be expensive.
Time to learn and be a pro like you😊
That's awesome. One of my goals with the channel is to share techniques that people might want to use in their design projects. All without needing to buy assets or pay software subscriptions. Thanks!!
@@IronEchoDesign you are a good man.God bless
Thank you so much. I love this community.
Nice
Thanks!!
This is amazing but how do you get new lines to have the same stroke and color? When I click to create a new bezier line, it defaults back to a gray 1.0 line instead of the blue 5.0 line I set with the first line selected.
Thanks! For the line weight and color- I know what you mean. Inkscape sometimes gets stuck on a default seemingly at random. Normally the Bezier Pen is set to Last Style Used and it should stay on your last choice. Double click on the tool icon to pull up preferences- is it set to Last Style Used? If it is and its still flipping back to something else try changing to "This Tool's Own Style" on the Preference pop up. Hope this helps!
Omg, so cool! I’m still learning Inkscape. If I update to 1.2, will I lose my projects saved in Inkscape?
Thanks!! I was worried about losing my projects when I switched, but they all stayed in the folders on my computer and are still there. I don't know for sure if it's the same for all systems. Backup to be safe first. Don't want to lose all that work.
Rick, got a show idea for you in line with the mandala series. Can you do a show on creating a 4'x4' barn quilt file that can be used to create an actual plywood barn quilt. Not sure if it's a midwest thing but they are very popular here in MN. Thanks!
Can we use our creations for selling ...are there any restrictions..could you make a video on license terms for kdp
I noticed that any straight lines I create after the rotate copies, I'm not able to drag on the line to make it curved. Is this normal?
I tried to follow along using Inkscape 1.1. My paths knowledge is not quite there yet, I think. Results were startling. :) But I’ll keep at it. Nice tutorial!
Thanks! 1.2 made things a bit easier if you want to take it for a spin. Have fun!
Mine does not have that second ribbon up top that includes how to change the page size. where do I add the ribbon
Go to View in the top menu and make sure Widescreen is NOT selected. That should put the toolbar on top. Or, if Full Screen has been selected that will alter the toolbars. Click on Full Screen to toggle it off if it was on. Hope this helps!
Fantastic! This makes the "revisit" videos absolutely worth it!
And the 1.2 improvements definitely make me continue using Inkscape (even though I also purchased Affinity Designer. What? It was only £24; 50% off. Sue me! 😜).
Nice of you to mention Logos by Nick. He has an additional YT channel, I think it's called "Design made Simple".
As usual I enjoyed this tutorial very much.
Thanks! I had to redo the original mandala video to include the continuation feature since it really does change the game. Had to mention Logos by Nick because he's the best of the best and I owe my entry into Inkscape because of his videos. Affinity Designer is good! I'm hopefully going to branch into more cross-platform work soon. Trying to choose a path for the channel.
@@IronEchoDesign Nick is the best, but you are a close 2nd. It takes skill to explain/teach new tools and skills in an accessible way and make the viewers feel at ease and less overwhelmed.
Yes, I wanted to get into digital drawing a bit more and purchased a Wacom Intuos. Besides open source app Krita, Affinity Designer was therefore a logical choice for me to bridge between vector and pixel work. I'm still giddy trying to work it all out.
Whatever you decide re your channel's direction, I'm looking forward to how it develops. Have a great day/ evening(?) !
That means a lot to me- thank you!! It's nighttime here and I have 1 of 2 little ones still stirring, so I'm off to story time. G'night!
@@IronEchoDesign g’nite 😀
"Made it mobile" is also by Logos by Nick
pretty awesome! actually worked when I tried it. :) the only thing I couldn't figure out was setting the lines to all be the same.the strokes to all be 1.00mm settings so I don't have to set them each time.
Nice!
@@IronEchoDesign hi Rick, i like your tutorials! I have the same question 🙋♀️ like Barbara. All went well until I stared to use the pencil tool, the stroke result is very thin. So I had to adjust the stroke colour, style manually to match the rest of the design which doesn’t make sense. This issue didn’t happen with me when I used the bezier pen tool. In your tutorial it didn’t happen with you when you used bezier pen too or pencil tool, I mean when you drew using the pencil tool, automatically the line was blue with the same thickness like the rest of the design. Or did you change them manually during the time lapse time? I was drawing inside the group and all was getting copied and rotated correctly. It’s just the colour & stroke style when I use pencil tool is not matching the rest. Any trick? Or anything I need to change in the setting before I draw with pencil tool?
I had my settings on the top menu for the pencil tool the same like yours. So not sure what’s causing the issue. Hope the question makes sense. Thanks
@@Mariam-Mina I had the same issue. I dont know if it is right solution, but you can double click Pen or Bezier icon, you will get settings for default line style. You can either set it to use last used setting, then pen /bezier you set only once and other lines will follow lastly used color and width, or you can set your default line styl based on selected sample. But I dont know if it is right way to do it, othewise it makes no sense, when I set line style and make a line using Bezier, it always reverts to 0,265 mm width instead of my 1 mm setting.
@@lakyljuk thanks for your reply!! yes I tried this last week and it was the only way I found it working too to keep the stroke with the same width. I couldn’t figure out another solution.
This tutorial is great! But I'm stuck once I'm done drawing all of the lines in mirror and rotate - how do I flatten/combine them into one single object without losing the path effects? I'm wanting to then be able to offset and apply other effects to the whole object for doing layered pieces.
Thanks, and I know exactly what you’re saying. I’ve seen Inkscape get stuck with some Path Effects. For example in different projects I’ve had Path Effects behavior applied to new objects even if I deleted everything I was working on. For the Mandala art there are two solutions to try: First try grouping everything and doing Object- Object to Path. Then try resizing the whole thing and moving it on the canvas to see if it locks in. Or- try isolating each mirrored piece of the mandala with Object to Path and then Group everything. Let me know if either solves it, and if not I’ll set it up and try to get the error and troubleshoot some more.
@@IronEchoDesign I did fine one trick that seems to work most of the time - If you enter the group that the path effects are on to add pieces, you need to exit the group by clicking out of it on the main layer or somewhere else, then you can select all of the pieces from the group together and do Path to Stroke on it to lock in all of the effects as part of a singular object
How to install inkscape 1.2 full version in windows 7 32 bit
Hi pressing ctrl is sufficient to make circles and squares
Yes, good tip!
Hi can you create those fan made soccer/football poster, you said you would try it couple videos before, thank youu.
Hi Adam- I made several tries at it. I think Photoshop or Affinity would be better tools for an image intensive poster. It can be done in Inkscape, but not as efficiently than with Photoshop. I've been looking into expanding this channel outside of Inkscape, and if I do, the fan made poster project will be perfect!
Hello again! This is great! BUT, if anyone can find a bug it's me. I was trying to use a star shape (5 sided) and the lower part of the upper left ray is not forming. Anyone else having this happen? Also, the round cap is being jagged instead. Anyone else? Also, when you click on the individual lines in the layers and strokes, you can change the colors of each to make it much nicer! This will also be great for repeating patterns!
Interesting! I wonder why the star is doing that? Great idea on the color changing- that will add more to the designs.
So very cool. I just started using inkscape a few days ago and have been following your tutorials. Could you possibly make a vid or explain how I can colour my Mandala? I would like to make my own prints for my wall hangings to correspond with my Mandala cushions :)
Thanks! That's a great idea. I'll start playing around with some color ideas and see if I can figure out a video for it. You mean filled in, right? Not just colored lines?
@@IronEchoDesign Yes filled in and or using gradient etc :)
@@IronEchoDesign Loving your videos, Rick. Yes, I'd love to be able to colour in lines, too, as I'm making colouring pages and want to have the blank mandala plus examples of coloured-in ones. Also, I notice if you try and add a shape into the mandala - e.g. a circle - you can't 'grasp' it to move or change it. You can only use the nodes to tweak it. So I'm just working out where the bounds of it all are right now. Keep on truckin' with your videos. They're fantastic! Thank you!
Hello. What software is it recorded with? The part that shows you!
It's Camtasia. I'm still using Camtasia 9, and I think the quality would be better if I improve my camera.
how do I now make it all ONE thing instead of 1000000 paths
Inkscape won't let me select more than one item at a time for live path effects.
EDIT: Forgot to group the lines - works exactly as you demonstrated!
Can you try grouping the items, and with the group selected, apply the Path Effects?
