No wonder why it got Huge Power as an ability in Gen 3
Even broken huge power has helped me solo/farm for a good team in SV.
Azumarill is actually pretty good in-game in Gens 4 and beyond, especially when it gets the Fairy-type. Hits like a truck, quite tanky, and good level-up and TM movepool. Helps that in most cases its really easy to get and has quite early availability.
@@CoffeeFlavoredMilk it’s also been good I’m competitive battling!!
@@CoffeeFlavoredMilk it's actually a pretty good pokemon in general lol, power creep and Tapu Fini has sunk it slightly in competitive but it's still very good. BD/SP made it OU again in that tier. Seen plenty of VGC use through the years.
It's *okay* in Generation 3 in game *if* you get it set up with full Ev investment and the only good TM's it can learn. It's still slow, and isn't hitting that hard with Return and Brick Break/Focus Punch. And unless you're solo run-ing they'd be better used on something else.
I'm pleasantly surprised. Azumarill did much better than I thought it would. Hope to see a playthrough one day in a future gen with huge power.
Feels so wrong for marill to have the same party sprite as jigglypuff
It does…
Azumarill is like the move Rollout in Pokemon form. It starts from existing but not actually existing in Gen 1, to actually existing but being terrible in Gen 2, to getting huge power, to getting physical water moves, to being blessed with fairy typing as time went on.
"And through TM and HM it gets Dynamic Punch in case you wanna miss..." I almost spat my drink at my laptop, that was unexpected xD
I mean, half of the gen 1 mons get Fissure, and most of the mons that get it there are pretty slow, which basically means it will ALWAYS MISS
Same. I laughed so hard at that line.
Seeing a Pikablu run is cool.
Hope to see a Yoshi run in Yellow soon. You know, you can evolve Dragonite to Yoshi in the game. Billy on the playground told me that.
Only if you beat the elite four 1000 times and eat an entire light bulb
it's true my uncle works for nintendo
JRose and Scott doing the whole dueling fiddles thing is overloading my work poop schedule 😂
Rollout is completely busted in this generation in my opinion. I know a big german challenge runner who bans this move in his solo runs. Maybe you should use it as a last resort move? :) Im a big fan of your videos by the way. Keep up the good work! 😄
Imo rollout isn’t that over powered because it locks you in and can miss. Yes it’s very strong, but for a lot of Pokémon there is usually a better option. (typically return haha)
@@ScottsThoughtsPokemon The thing is if it hits it can cheese hard fights very easy. Its ofcourse worse when resets are counted in the valuation of the Pokemon. But imo with 90% acc it goes through maybe 50% against all the enemies pokemon. 50% chance to cheese a whole fight is a lot in my opinion. But bro do what you want, like I said love your videos. 😋
Azumarill celebrating his HOF induction is the cutest
Wow fast growth rate is so OP! As a kid I used to sweep the entire game with Gatr, but it would take it so much longer to reach that high a level by the end. As a result I'm guessing Azu's weaker offences get balanced out and it can knock anything important out fast enough anyway. So cool that it ends up being great even before Huge Power.
I think a major reason the Gen 2 results are more clustered is just better game balance. There was a big focus on every Pokemon, no matter how weak, having a chance to shine in Gen 2 compared to games like Gen 1 and Gen 5 where you have mons like Beedrill and Unpheasant next to mons like Alakazam and Excadrill. Even the really good Gen 2 Pokemon tend to have quad weaknesses or low stats in one or two categories and even the really bad ones tend to get wide movepools and set up strategies.
The almighty Weedle was of course the greatest of all challenges 😂
Pikablu ♡ I doubt it will do great, but looking forward to seeing how it fares! Decent coverage, decent defense, abysmal offense. Seems very doable, but the low offense will likely inflate the time needed to finish.
wow, that's how you know scott's made it. he's got scam bots impersonating him in his comments.
You should do this again with azumarill but mod crystal to always double your attack stat meaning you always have huge power. Would be interesting to see how much better that makes it in gen 2 specifically.
Since you're doing Gen 2 and 3 now, you should test out Pokemon with and without egg moves! Are egg moves OP?
Ps. I'm pretty sure it's pronounced A-zoo-marill. Like in Azure, not a short "Azu".
I guess I should congratulate you, Scott; you're officially famous enough to have bots.
Rollout is so fun to use though. I remember one time in the Trainer Tower in LeafGreen I was up against a trainer with a Snorlax that had it and Return. Thing gave me a run for my money, that's for sure. I was thinking Azumarill wouldn't do so hot without Huge Power but it did pretty good here!
I love your content Scott! Usually your Canadian accent doesn’t show through very much, but when you were saying rollout it sounded like roll-ote 😂. Keep up the awesome content!
Looks like that Hiker who found his way into the pokemon league managed to get his revenge during this playthrough 😂
Azumarill is the doom blueberry. Especially when it gets belly drum, its kinda funny to watch it massacre everything
Imagine if it got a priority before gen 4, (only priority moves in gen 3 are Quick Attack and Extreme Speed)
It would be amazing
We all know how good it was (and still is) after receiving Aqua Jet
This I am excited for, i know its it not going to be good here, HUGE POWER made it pretty good as did the Fairy typing later.
^
Bot
Excited for this one (obviously haven't seen the whole video yet). I remember I used to think Azumarill was a pretty "Eh" pokemon but then I heard it was pretty damn good. It was when I played a Pokemon Emerald Nuzlocke and used an Azumaril that became a reliable pillar of defense for my team when really started to love this pokemon. RIP Ferix the Azumarill. Died to Dragon Dance Boosted Critical Body Slam from Drake's Kingdra.
It was eh until abilities came in. Gen 2 was not kind to Azumaril.
Without huge power it’s garbage
Mine had Thick Fat. It was good as a defensive option.
Critical hits aren’t boosted by dragon dance. Crits don’t take stat boosts or decreases in to account.
@@collinqs2541 In Gen 1 crits ignore stat changes. I'm pretty sure Gen 3 Crits count your stat boosts though. If you boost your attack/sp.atk stat, your crits would also probably do more damage.
absolutely excited for this one. the marill line was a favorite of mine as a kid
To me Azumarill is like the Gen 2 equivalent of clafable
Bulky
Diverse enough move pool
Gets fairy buff
Slow af
Really good in playthrough and competitive
Azumarill in later generations is so daaaaaamn good. My problem with gen 2 is that most of Johto mons are in Kanto :(
I too remember the Pikablu days. I’ve always loved Marill; it’s so cute and round! And it’s ears are so round too! And then it gets bunny ears! So cuuuute!
I simply love Azumarill! Its rabbit ears, its cute round form, such a cute design! That's my favorite run so far Scott! Thank you very much! You know what? Marill was kind of forgot this generation, no one uses it, it's not important in any fight! I don't know if you,ve done already but you could do maybe a run with lantern line! I guess it is also one cute forgot Pokemon! Anyway, I always look forward to your next challenge! This month, I gotta say, you're doing a lot, I 'm enjoy really much but don't exhaust yourself out, but thank you anyway! Luck for you, always!
I always throw on the ipad while I cook and you’re usually my go-to, love the videos
The overlay is great. I don’t have to go back to the beginning to see all the options/stats
You should just make a mod that changes Venomoth's type with the joke.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that still calls this line Pikablu!
Azumarill's artwork is peak "Does this look like the face of mercy?"
If possible plz do Pseudo Legendary comparison like dragonite vs salamce or dragonite vs tyranitar ...
patiently waiting for any frlg content from you. but still enjoying all your content!
Hold up. Correct me if I'm wrong, but...
Rollout's base power = 30.
Add defense curl (x2) = 60
Add stab (for a rock-type; x1.5) = 90
Add hard stone (x1.1) = 99 (let's just say 100)
That means used on the fifth turn...
100x2=200=400=800=1600!
If used on a flying type, that's 3200!
If that flying type is also fire, ice, or bug, then 6400! That's almost 10x ancient power and swift! Hot dang!
Edit: forgot about Brock's badge. That's another 12.5%. That makes it over 7000 power!!! 😵
Yeah. Rollout is very good.
I'm using a huge power Azumarill in violet and it is a beast
huge power on azumarill is even better since in japan it’s name is muscle man
Azumarill desperately needed an ability.
And the physical/special split.
And the fairy type.
And a strong and accurate STAB move like Liquidation
In summary, Azumarrill needed a lot to be good.
And Belly Drum.
You should do tyranitar vs dragonite. I think it would be a good video since they are 2 very strong pseudo legendaries and it would be nice to see who would win. Maybe dragonite vs kingdra would be more fitting but kingdra is a trade evo so I think you'd do that separate. I think tyranitar would win due to the early game moveset
Currently watching your month of videos from sunny Cape Verde, where tonight this one is a balm against England's world Cup defeat by France. Thanks again for this amazing surplus of content.
Dang scott’s PP jokes are unrivaled😂
I would love to see a meowth/persian run in either yellow or crystal, the ability to generate extra cash with payday would be interesting to see how it affects the game
He's done meowth in yellow. He used payday a very small amount
been using one for the first time in a bw2 playthrough recently, it's actually really great. big fan of it now
Hey Scott, My fiancé and I been loving your content since you started. Wigglytuff and Igglybuff are her favorite Pokémon and she wanted to know if you would consider an Igglybuff solo run!
Though I understand if that would be too painful to do, since it’s a terrible Pokémon.(hopefully she doesn’t see that I said that)
Scott you been doing a lotta work lately. Love that new uploads are coming out so frequently now
It didn’t forget it just wanted to be fancy
I love the little detail where the text box blinks along with Lance’s theme at 29:17
You've outdone yourself with the title! Outstanding
21:36
Update: Just finished, and man having the fast growth rate really does come in clutch
your content is amazing, and so consistent i love it!!!!! and your voice is soothing
Azumarill line in platinum?!? 🤔
Everyone will now live in fear of weedle
45:12 Wait a minute… Espeon in S-Tier?
I don‘t remember you doing a video on it, maybe it’s a future release?
Anyways, glad that it‘s comparable to legendaries; I speedrun Espeon as an alternate Main Pokémon in Crystal, my current time is 3:51:53 on vanilla Crystal, without speeding up the game!
16:40 Actually, HP Ground would have been stronger because the Attack badge boost beats an increase of 1 BP. Though, granted, the difference was minimal.
Third reason: Brock. He's a much bigger wall in Gen 1 than Faulkner is in Gen 2. Nearly everyone can do neutral damage to the birds, but to get past Brock you need super effective damage, special attacks, or lots of levels.
Azumarill actually got better every following gen. It got huge power in gen 3 effectively doubling its attack. Then due to the physical special split it could use its water moves from the physical side and some other moves(ice punch and superpower). Moreover,in gen 6 it got the fairy typing which made it so good! Bellydrum ,aqua jet,ice punch and play rough is a very threatening set in competitive!
And in gen 5 it got pseudo buffed with rain, and gen 7 it was pseudo buffed by being one of the best Z move abusers. I was convinced it was gonna be buffed or pseudo buffed every gen. And then it got axed until isle of armor and didn't even get buffed in gen 8. Oh well
Who's ALIEN?
Also, what did you remove to teach ICE PUNCH at Lance? I thought HIDDEN POWER, but then you used it against Surge... UPDATE Ooooh, you can BUY HIDDEN POWER! Now I get it!
Resets of playthrough 1: Weedle, Karen, Blue, Red ad infinitum.
Resets of playthrough 2: second one was Misty freezing you, first one was... I don't remember?
I remember what Pikablu was supposed to be being two different things. One was Marill, though at the time I saw the picture of "Pikablu" I already knew what Marill was. The other was a Surfing Pikachu.
I would read fake tutorials of how to get Pikablu online, (usually involving "Bill's garden") but then I'd read how to get Surfing Pikachu legitimately and was kind of confused because I didn't play the games at that point.
And then I got a Gameboy and Pokemon Crystal and tried the Egg Moves method. (Which in these games you'd have to teach the egg directly, if I remember right.) It worked, but only because I kept forgetting what gender the parent Pokemon has to be for the baby to be that species. So I got a Marill who knew Surf at birth.
Azumarill is my single favourite pokemon since Black 2! I've even taken it through a crystal solo so I can empathize with this run more than any other.
My run I let go of rollout too early and didn't have a good HP type so I had to surf through Morty, and it took me a while to figure out I should be using rest so Karen gave me trouble, other than that it was almost identical to your second playthrough, it's a really intuitive pokemon to use. Like it has all the tools it needs without any distracting fluff moves or long dead space
Right on! I'm using a Thick Fat ability Azumarill in my playthrough of pokemon violet. Even without the Huge Power ability it's a very good water type pokemon. Those defenses are solid.
I know Pikablu, but what is this Marill fakemon you're talking about? I am in fact one of the older generations in regards to pokemon
But for real, Azumarill was one of my favorites in Gen 2, and I was so happy when it received Huge Power later on, that with the Fairy Type brought it up to a high tier pokemon.
Dude... so much of this playthrough was just "dude, use Rollout". Especially vs Red & Blue. Yeah you missed vs Red, just reset & do it again, you'll one-shot the Venusaur
I know you like to do native gen pokemon for runs before doing earlier gens, but Id be super interested to see an Azumarill run in Emerald now
It's funny to see how many people here in the comments thought Azumarill wasn't very good in Gen 2 but this playthrough shows otherwise. Sure, it's not a threat on the competitive side, but not all Pokemon are meant for competitive pvp; some are just fine being a beast in regular playthroughs.
It feels like every major feature added to the Pokemon franchise ends up being a net bonus to Azumarill
- Addition of abilities in gen 3
- Physical/Special split in gen 4
- Addition of fairy type in gen 6
All-time glow up
I actually used a Huge Power Azumarill in Pokemon Scarlet, and it's always been the big red button. The rest of my team was all gen 9 pokemon.
Interesting to see how it’ll do without Huge Power.
I remember when people called this thing Pikablu. Thanks for making me feel old. =P (I mean, memories of Yellow do that well enough on their own, but still.)
Your comment about Tri Attack sometimes being a Fire Type move made me wonder, what if it was always Fire, Ice, and Electric type. How that would do against abilities like Flash Fire and Volt Absorb aside, it would be neutral against Normal, Fighting, Poison, Psychic, Ice, Ghost, Dark, Steel and Fairy, while being resisted by Water, Electric, Rock, and Dragon; being double resisted by Fire; presumably ineffective against Ground; super effective against Grass and Bug; and finally double super effective against Flying. Butterfree beware! Not altogether very good though
AZUMARILL IS A GEN 2 MON?! Why did I always assume it was a Gen 3 mon along with the baby form? Huh, weird? Anyway, yeam Huge Power would have solved every problem... Aqua Jet too... huh weird. Even though it got nerfs like any mon, Azumarill still got buffs like a powerful ability, Aqua Jet, Fairy typing with Rough Play. It's a crazy water mouse indeed!
3:25 - "weedle is too strong"
of course, @WeedleTwineedle is too strong, you activated their wEakNess poLICyyy 😍
Azumarill has gotten so many buffs across the generations that it's practically a different pokemon today. Gen 3 gave it Huge Power, Gen 4's phys/special split gave it usable water STABs and coverage like Superpower and Ice Punch, and Gen 6 made it Water/Fairy (still one of the best all-around type combos in the game).
Forget Pikachu favoritism, Pikablu is clearly the dev team's favourite.
Weedle is so strong, that you might be able to beat Lance with a single one.
You might need performance enhancing drugs to beat Red.
5:53 - "i guess weedle is stong but Faulkner isn't"
Of course, Faulkner doesn't have a wEakNess poLICyyy 😍
Gen 2 introduced a lot of Pokemon that I feel are either mistyped or a missed opportunity for a unique (at the time) typing; Sunflora not being Grass/Fire is probably the biggest disappointment to me, but a much lesser example is the Azurill family not being Water/Normal - especially given how Azurill is Normal type.
Would certainly have helped to give them STAB Normal and even an immunity to Ghost, possibly more than the attempt at compensating for the lacking attack stat with Huge Power in generation 3.
So, fun fact: I went with my grandparents in 1998 to Atlanta, and I bought a Pikablue figure from a shop. My grandma told me she would give me $20 per day that I was good, and, at the end of the trip, I was able to afford Ocarina of Time for $80. Man. Those were the days. I miss those times.
I don't know why you think Venomoth is Grass/Flying, that's silly. Your Surf did neutral damage to it, it's obviously Rock/Dragon
Do the numbers in your overlay always gets rounded up? Because Surf for example is 143, but it should be 95 + 47 since mons always rounds down
I mean it's not really significant but with boosts and badge boost everything might be a little wrong if you round up multiple times.
This is like *really* insignificant honestly
Azumarill is incredibly egg-shaped😨
I remember I had a playthrough of Gold with Feraligatr, Weepinbell and Azumarill as a young one, good times.
Oddly, I think I didn't evolve Weepinbell to Victreebel back then🤔 is it even possible to obtain a Leaf Stone before meeting Bill's grandfather in Kanto in Gold/Silver? I know Crystal had those trainers that would call & give you stones sometimes.
The girl in the grass below Celadon will phone you and give a leaf stone
Its a great baby pokemon the only one that's even EASIER is Togepi in Gen 2 since TogiCHICK its evolved form is completely broken.
I'm no programer so this might be a shit idea
If you pick rollout, double rollout's effective damage every time "rollout" appears in the text box. If "fight" shows up on screen (meaning it missed or ended), reset to initial value
Would something like this work?
Not that Azurill is even in Gen 2 but baby Pokémon drive me crazy - especially for those who are already weak. I mean look at how mediocre Marills stats are and Gen 3 was really like “but what if we make it start worse?” Yes, huge power really changed the viability especially in Gen 4 onward
Rivals are really interesting because some of them have like one challenging fight, like hoenn route under cycling road but others have the rival really be a pain the whole way through like yellow (except pokemon tower, that’s like a freebie)
I haven’t looked at marill/azumarill prior to gen 3 (also interesting fact, azurill has a chance to change gender upon evolution due to different gender ratios between azurill and marill)
Hidden power being special or physical depends on move types in gens 2 and 3 right? Because after that it’s like purely special and never fairy
DEFENSE CURL DOUBLES ROLL OUT POWER? *The more you know*
The next run i'm G/S/C can use kindgra please? :) Nice Video Bro!
Pyrce being the worst gym leader makes him being the big villain of the Pokemon Special GSC arc even funnier.
Hey Scott, how the _fuck_ do you give Azumarill a hair cut? _It has no hair!_
Also this really goes to show just how important levelup category is. Azumarill isn't awful of course, but its base stats also aren't great either. But due to leveling faster it has a much easier time than some other pokemon that statistically are superior.
Hmm I have some theories this dude really don't like dynamic punch. Just a theory
19:16 is it possible the AI sees that you’re faster and wants to slow you down, similar to how Roxanne’s Nosepass sees Rock Tomb as a stat lowering move in Gen 3?
I'm old enough to experience both memes... Pikablu and huge power juggernaut
Was crystal after gold silver? I'm a gen 1 guy, I do know marril from Tracy in tangerine Islands, after pokemon 2000 I fell off
Oh yeah, the one I thought was wasteful to come as part of Tracey's pokemon in the Orange Islands instead of something Misty caught there as a lead in to the Johto Journeys and then Misty gets the pre-evolution baby version Azurill after she's left the anime as consolation for releasing her newly evolved Togetic and never does anything with it and most of the fans don't even know she has it. I'm not bitter, I'm not bitter at all.
At this point EVERYONE learns mudslap BUT gligar 😂
All this talk about the Almighty Weedle reminds me of an old meme of Weedle being the ultimate Saiyan repellant because Goku is afraid of needles while Vegeta is afraid if bugs. XD
My uncle who works at Nintendo gave me a limited edition pikablu trading card. It's too rare so I can't show you.
Don't say "Your generation" like all of us thought pikablue was a thing lol
The Weedle joke got old immediately. That reset was your fault for not remembering your pp count.
Marill was always such a cutie!
Marill might be pikablu, but azumarill is clearly wiggly-blu not rai-blu.
35:45 nice
Hey scott
In your last video "evee Evolution run" you selected me as a winner for a giveaway. But the comment was from an other account. Was that you?
Do you have to keep using defense curl after every rollout ends to get buff… or only use defense curl once and then can just spam as many rollouts you want (keeping the buff from only using the fist defense curl)
