Your archiving system was interesting, because I thought you had a more complex system to allow you to find specific types of content. I wasn't expecting it to be only ordered by date.
Me too. I use adobe Bridge to keyword videos and groups of photos and years later surprised when i filter in it what I found I completely forgot about.
He must have excellent memory of events. Like even if you know the event happened somewhere around October 2014 it would still require a butt load of searching to find the exact day and footage....

If you start with this system from the start you will be surprised on how easy it is to remember where files are. 🖖👍🎗

You still have all your footage at the same location. WIth that amount of data, I would pay to have some offsite backup space in the cloud at the same time as you maintain your local storage.
Hard luck has taught me, as an IT guy, that there is no such thing as too many belts and suspenders with regards to data.
A fire or a break in could take out your data storage completely right now.

So, please keep on doing what you do...it allows people like me to live thru you vicariously. Its the only way I get to see places I've never been...like New York, Dubai, and all the other places you've been. I'm happy, you're happy, its all good :)

I have a similar system though I've been keeping different folders for DSLR vs. Point and shoot. Now I think I will merge them under the day/month. So... I learned something from it. Thanks!
Casey, I like the way you organize your footage. It's a very smart and organized system. If you know what you want and where to fine it, it's very easy to get to it. I do almost the same thing with my school work. I separate it by school year, semester, individual class, and then type of project like "essays", "presentations", etc.

Just watch his video and note everything, it's not so hard, but making material like he do, u need a talent.

The good thing is that when its family/Candice time he chooses to use only a couple minutes of footage to keep it all private. I think she understands how large of a following she has so gets why he needs to film!

Casey, youd be surprised how much people on youtube love seeing the boring and what you think of as "uninteresting stuff" (like the way you organize your files) in your life. Personally I started watching you because you were a good role model and a successful person to emulate, hence I choose you for a source of entertainment as a way to virtually surround myself with people I would like to draw inspiration and knowledge from. You being one of the many youtube channels I watch. So seeing how your brain functions and how you organize things, or how you set up shots, or just anything that involves how Casey Neistat performs a certain action (rather than just seeing the action itself) is empowering to say the least. If anything it can bring confidence to people who are overwhelmed with the quality and true magic that comes out of your vlogs each day, but when its explained, it shows that its all just tons of small steps, practice, organization, experience, and a SHIT load of hard work that go into the videos. So please keep sharing HOW you do things. Anything. because although I can't speak for everybody in the youtube community, for me, learning how someone does something, is just another way for me to connect to their thinking process, dissect it, and hopefully adopt parts of it for my benefit, and in turn pass on my own processes for my fans, children, youngers, students, or whatever. How do you find stuff topically that's more obscure...like say you wanted to cut in footage of like a montage of all the beaches you've seen or every airplane seat you sat in or something like that? Hi Casey! I'm a photographer out of Michigan. Our sorting system is very similar with file storage! One thing that I like to use in my workflow is metadata tagging. I can tag my photos with easily searchable tags like my dogs' names, or the location that the photo was taken, etc. It takes some time to do it, but it is awesome for targeting specific moments that you might want to view or search in the future. You may already do this, but I think it would work really well with your system! Just a thought! Cheers!

I've got exactly the same organising system, down to the cameras! Only thing I also do when it's a job (not a daily vlog), is actually also colour code them to see what job is done, ongoing, canceled..etc

Anonymemes how about you do research yourself, memory does not work by 1000's 1TB is 1024 GB, google will wrong you on this one. This also depends if the storage device is in binary or decimal. If its in decimal then you are right 1000gb = 1tb
