That would be correct as the only time I drive one is because my wife thought it be fun to rent one in Las Vegas to drive to the Grand Canyon. It wasn’t fun…at all.
I gave a convertible a try when I bought my 03 Cobra and it's so worth it. It's so much more fun with the top down. There is nothing like driving a high horsepower convertible. It's rowdy, it's visceral. There is just no other way to describe it. People will talk trash on my soft top all day long , they'll say it's girly but they don't have the balls to get in it and go for a ride cause it's "DaNgErOuS!" That's all the fun. 700WHP, stick shift, no traction control, with the top down!? You can't beat it. Now sure, if you're building a race car and I mean an actual race car, not just a high horsepower street car, then by all means go get a hard top. But most of the hate comes from people who are not building actual race cars. I promise you, you don't HAVE to have a coupe to go do some spirited driving on some curvy back roads. Verts 🔛🔝
I was not in the market for a convertible when I bought mine and didn’t think I’d get another convertible but here I am lol. I do enjoy the top down when there’s nice weather & it allows me to hear all the cool sounds my car makes. The screaming blower & exhaust note😁
My favorite convertible is the 90s Mercedes SL500/320/72. All of them came with a hidden soft top and removable hard top. For engines, they had a race proven DOHC 5.0 v8, DOHC 3.2L inline 6, or a pagani v12. 👍
My C5 targa offers the best of both worlds. I can take the top off and have the wind in my hair as I cruise the PCH, and with the top on it maintains the sleek body lines of a coupe. For the track, the Z06 hardtop is much better having a fixed roof, and I won't try and deny it. Soft top C5s, I hate them. Especially when you combine it with an automatic and flames on the front, it can't get any more mid-life crisis than that.
@@SaintsSpecOps targa tops aren’t the same at T tops either. A targa is like what corvettes have where the entire roof panel is removable. T tops are what the 2-4th gen f body’s had where the driver and passenger both had a glass panel above which is removable but the middle is a non removable bar. That’s why t tops are superior it gives the best of both worlds where you have structural rigidity and removable roof panels.
My auntie had a Sebring convertible and she had a LeBaron beforehand. Haven’t had any problems. But yeah, as a kid me and my sisters thought it was the coolest thing ever. 😂
I got two convertibles a 1992 Chrysler LeBaron with its v6, and a 1980 triumph TR7. I drove the lebaron before i fix the little bit of rust on it. To be fair it creeks like hell but its a semi fun car and decently good looking i think. Haven’t got the tr7 running yet (just got it) but they look good with the soft tops and looks like a fun time to drive too
I agree soft tops look worse 9.9/10. I still like them, just fun. I'm not racing anyone so nothing else matters. Sold my MX5 for a GR Supra, no regrets but think I will definitely get another MX5 in the future. Miss roof down driving from time to time
Dude the Durango with the ginormous battery underneath the passenger seat, which is electric, is one of the worst I've ever dealt with because you can't get to both terminals with the seat in one position
i got carjacked leaving work last night and by some stroke of luck the 4 worthless rejects couldnt get the gate of the business i work at to open for them to leave in my camaro ss. the fucktards ditched it instead of smashing through the gate and hopped the fence and left on foot leaving behind a nice handful of finger prints on my tinted window that as a car guy i would never do. i legitimately couldnt afford full coverage because im still behind financially from losing my job but i own it outright so i was fucked 1000x over if they actually stole it.
Agreed, Solstice is a stand apart because it was originally designed as a roadster so it looks great as a convertible. I daily’d my Solstice since 2009 and wouldn’t have it any other way.
I bought my wife a BMW Z4, I hate it. If I'm driving around in the summer I want A/C, if I'm going to be sweating my ass off with the sun beating down on me I want to be on my motorcycle. How dare you blaspheme the Cadillac XLR! A friend of mine bought an XLR-V for his wife, I maintain it for her since he passed away a couple of years ago, it is an awesome car.
I'm so glad other car guys have this opinion too, it's seems like I'm the only one who thinks convertibles look stupid and are absolutely useless, I love all muscle cars but there convertible variants make me want to throw up.
Mannnnn…..I got a good ass deal on a 2016 GT that I couldn’t pass up on and it’s a convertible, and now I got Drew calling it gay 😂 🤷♂️ I wasn’t planning on getting a convertible at all but it was such a good deal that I could look past the look of the car, but it’s still funny I’m driving a gay car according to Drew lmao
@ cuz you have one lol, I get it tho I got a 03 iron block in my 68 Torino lol it’s a great motor but I’ll stick with the hard top and a 8.8 or 9 inch instead of a irs. But i definitely miss my 03 for sure.
@@OffTheSkooma Once I gave the convertible a chance, I just can't get enough of it. It's so much fun with the top down, especially in a Terminator. I've still got the iron block in mine, along with the T-56 and the IRS. The car's a blast on a nice day, but summer nights are my favorite.

Assuming you live somewhere with good weather year round, a good convertible on track is so fun. You need to be in the upper echelon of cars tho to make it worth it. Porsche and McLaren do a phenomenal job. It's a bit tacky nowadays but on track it's so fun. Mustang convertible I get his point tho I love stangs but it's a pretty big penalty.

They definitely have a couple drop top challengers they’re just rare finds but also extremely cursed cars 😂

The OG Viper definitely OK as a convertible because that's all that was available until they eventually offered the coupe
my buddy has a Convertible DCT BMW 135is. its fun af to drive

FBO vert here, Drew’s absolutely right about everything. But nothing beats drop top on a good day. I didn’t buy a 3v to go fast especially as a vert.
Porsche 911 cabs are the only car i know of that keeps the same body lines as a hard top
Convertible Nissan Murano is the ugliest vert ever
Convertible Porches are fun ngl
its fun because its a porsche
