I still would have liked mega to stay but I see why it was dropped.
I would love to see a game that pits all the gimmicks together and fight NPC's that uses different ones and you can pick from one and is a critical plot point to the story.
@@xtrem5428 Yes, but all of them. Megas, Z-moves, the Max forms, and Terastallization. You'd have to choose one and the one you choose changes the story in a key way.
I don't have any feelings about Terastallization. But I would prefer it if GF would expand, work and ballance on already introduced gimmicks instead of dumping them in the next games...
Terastalization has a few solid points. Anyone can use it, there's a variety of ways to use it, and it's used all over the game. Unfortunately I think the hats are remarkably dumb. I'd prefer if the Pokémon just gained that crystal skin and a very obvious type based aura. It's still more interesting than Dynamax to me. I do kinda wish for Terastal Forms of some kind. I like alternate forms associated with these gimmicks and it's rare for that nowadays.
Unless it’s a dual type tera, I just don’t see how “Tera forms” would work. If it’s a transformation, then it’s no different than the base mechanic, just a cosmetic difference. If it’s a stat buff then it’s just mega evolution 2.0. I’m not shooting down the idea, I just don’t know what people are expecting when they bring it up.
@@CaptainObliviousV The way I'd see it, is if a certain Pokémon had a certain tera type, maybe they got a unique transformation. That said, dual type teras would also be really really cool. Maybe these special dual types have unique form changes. I just really want any option that doesn't have a silly hat xD.
Ironically enough, despite the opinion that Terastallizing is a core and integral part of Scarlet and Violet, I hated those stupid hats so much that to this day I have never used Terastallizing. Not even in the final battle with the characters practically begging me to.
The whole thing really would be infinitely cooler without the hats tbh, I feel like they could have gone with a unique partical effect for each type or even just color to tell the typing
Tera is definitely my favorite. And while the process to change types is grindy, I think it's necessary (at least for the main story). If I could easily change type would be way less interested in Tera raids.
I think a reasonable compromise would be that during the main story, you would need like 30-40 Tera shards if you want to change your Pokémon Tera type. But after you complete the main story the amount of shards needed is lowered to around 20 to ease the mind numbing grinding you need to do
I agree with that, but it would have been cool if more had them (and especially during the main game. ORAS had many new stones like Gallade being post-game only)
I love the actual transformations for Mega Evolutions but fully accept that it's sort of limited in scope for that reason since giving EVERY Pokemon ever another form would be ludicrous even when Megas first came out. And conversely even if Teras don't look as cool and they definitely feel the most balanced in terms of every Mon getting to use it and not blowing matches completely out of the water upon its activation
Tera is the best. So many options and adds an extra strategy/ layer to battling …. A single Tera can change the hole momentum and dynamic to a battle. I just wish more ai used it correctly like how iono and her levitate Thunder mismagius does
I'm enjoying it too. Verry versitile for pokemon and with the diferent types it can realy add up especially combing terra and abillities. Levitate and electric' water or volt absorb with fire and water' grass type with flash fire. The matchup posibilities are realy good.
I don't see how the Mamoswine, Garchomp coinflip has any issues. Other features are similar and you're left guessing what action your opponent does like switching out is basically identical to the Tera situation. Also, you had some control over whether the game would develop to this point and they saved their Tera for something impactful. Win or lose, it seems pretty fair to me
I like Tera because the mechanic itself opens up a lot in terms of competitive battling. Megas as a mechanic kinda sucks becasue it only applies to a very few number of pokemon, and doesn't actually do anything to buff those pokemon. You aren't ever choosing to mega a pokemon or not becasue the mega is ALWAYS better. Z moves are probably the second best. Most of the time it is used for a large blowout attack, but the effects granted by status moves are interesting. But that never saw too much competitive use because the big blowout move was just too valuable. It wasn't vertisitle in thay sense, becasue it was only used for offense. Dynamax is awful. Concept is neat, but execution is horrible. You get a blowout move for 3 whole turns, all the while getting buffs in an unkillable state. It was made to facilitate unfair sweeps. Tera on the other hand can be used in so many different ways and applied to so many different pokemon. You can Tera to boost your attacks. You can Tera to gain a better defensive position. You can Tera to give a pokemon a new stab type. This applies to every single pokemon in the game as well. Some of course utilize Tera better than others, but the idea is that all pokemon can use it in some way. It's not a coin flip like it would seem at first glance. When you play enough, you realize how some types are more common than others. You can adapt to these tendencies and form your own strategies around it. It's not overcentralizing in the slightest. If a pokemon is broken in gen 9, it's more likely becasue the pokemon itself is broken.
How could they focus on changing types moreso than they already have? There’s a move that shifts type based on your tera, terastalizing further boosts your matching type moves beyond just stab, terastalizing can even be used defensively. Not sure what’s wrong with it.
4:20 I don't agree this just made me never use tera on my regular playthrough outside of important battles as i wasn't frequently healing at a pokemon center and its just annoying to have to recharge it every time
Well ORAS and LGPE had the mega evolution gimmick as did USUM So far BDSP are the only remakes post-Gen 6 to ignore Mega Evolution or the other gimmicks
@@angryaromatisse1801 I'm really hoping when the time for gen 6 remakes comes, they actually put effort into them and add new mega evolutions instead of doing what BDSP did. It would also be cool if the games before the remakes brought back mega evolution too
What I liked about the Tera fights (both gym and raid dens) is the fact you can't brute force your way through most of the time. I.E. Iono has a Tera Electric Mistrevious with levitate so ground moves are ineffective. And the 6 star raid dens are challenging because you gotta think of potential counters the pokemon might have against your own.
I really like Tera, I rank it just below Dynamax for number 1, personally. I know this is a really unpopular opinion, but I feel like Dynamax was by far the most interesting gimmick because any Pokemon could use it at any time and you could decide to use it or not based on the flow of the battle, unlike Z Moves or Megas where you have to use it on a predetermined Pokemon. That sort of quick decision making makes for really interesting and fun battles and situations. Being able to set up a terrain for instance to avoid being put to sleep in a situation where otherwise it would be impossible to avoid is all thanks to Dynamax, but you have to weigh whether it may be better to just Dynamax another Pokemon instead. Not even taking into account Gigantamax with even more varied effects, and I just feel it's both the most fun, thought out, and interesting from a competitive standpoint.
Another accessibility factor for terastallisation is that no held item is required. Once you have the key item and a charge on it, you can use it while the Pokémon who it’s used on doesn’t need to drop the item it’s holding. This also means unlike mega evolution and z moves you don’t need to obtain an item to first use them, since getting a specific mega stone, z crystal type or specialised z crystal could sometimes be more trouble than they were worth even when they weren’t event exclusive.
Huh, didn’t know you could recharge your Tera Orb just by interacting with a Tera Raid Den, that’s so good to know, and totally makes sense. Now I won’t be too stingy using it bc I don’t like hitting up the Pokéstops too often.
I think there are two big points that I think you overlooked with Tera Typing in your video for negatives. One is the fact no one in the main story uses Tera Types SMARTLY. They just Tera Type their last Pokémon into their specialty type or it’s own type (in Nemona’s case), which Dynamax beats because the moves can hit harder on weaknesses and they can cause weather and terrain changes after use. The Gyms in Galar are smarter with Dynamax than the Gyms of Paldea (Biggest example is Larry Tera Typing his Staraptor to pure Normal, removing its resistance to Fighting moves). Another thing is the transformation scenes and animations for using Tera boosted moves are a bit too long and kind of unnecessary (specifically the attacks). Honestly, I never used Tera Types and found it to be kind of lame that it changes a dual type Pokémon into one single type. If it only changed one type, maybe different. And I don’t play competitively.
You'll live. You don't play competitive so you probably wouldn't understand how good the mono type can be instead of having a dual typing like grass/bug
w jpr upload but all ima say is gmax urshifu is best gimmick design besides mega ray also saying tera raids >max raids is wild tera raids feel like they dont work
I think Terastallization is the worst gimmick mostly because of the Tera Shard thing as well as the fact that so many NPCs don't change their Ace's Tera Type to one it didn't have like the Gym Leaders do. Also I think Mega Evolution is the best but I strongly agree that it's not used enough and on top of that what really annoys me is that they had 5 games to perfect it and they didn't, Dynamax would be the best if Gigantamax wasn't SO hard to get without the DLC and I feel Z Moves are great but kind of forgettable.
I know Mega Evolution is a very popular gimmick, for some reason, and this is gonna be a very unpopular opinion, but I don't like it. It is terribly unbalanced and I hope it never comes back. On the other hand, Z-Moves, Dynamax and now Terastalization are more well-balanced, used by pretty much every major character you encounter, and can be used by any Pokemon rather then being reserved for only a handful of select Pokemon. It just makes them more fun, honestly. And yes, I think Z-Moves are better then Megas, you can shoot me now.
Lore wise I really love Megas and I think they are cool and flashy but Terra has been surprisingly awesome. To me it’s tied with Megas. They are both the best for different reasons
I'd honestly say it's probably the best. Megas are still the prevailing favourite to the masses but to me it's mostly coasting off of the raw hype they bring with people ignoring the issues that came with it. Yeah, Tera isn't exactly gonna be turning heads at first but the simple act of letting a Pokemon change type is so interesting and dynamic with battles, especially with how it's balanced.
I feel like they could've made all of these tweaks to Mega Evolution instead of making new gimmicks... Give every Pokemon a "flat" or "standard" Mega Boost and give some access to the Evolutions (give more of them additional forms to choose from so we'd get more variety and possible strategies), add that Pokemon Center recharge thing, give more NPC Trainers Megas in general...
I've always believed that Mega evolution should return as a permanent feature, but with some changes 1. All non-evolving and final stage evolutions get one, aside from legendaries 2. The stat boosts provided by mega evolution get cut in half or even eliminated (I'm not entirely 100% on this one) 3. Mega evolution always causes a change in typing and abilities, and in some cases known moves 4. Remove the need to hold a Mega stone, so you don't need to sacrifice your item slot or collect 600 stones
More then likely the DLC will change how many Terra shards you need or a way to get more faster. One option is a shard trader that converts any shard to the same amount of your choice.
Imagine all four (or five if you count weather-changing abilities as a gimmick) gimmicks in one game and having one major battle where the gimmicks are all combined into a single ultimate Pokemon boss battle where you face a Terastallized (plus whatever thing they might add to that in the DLC), Gigantomaxed/Dynamaxed Mega-Evolved Legendary Pokemon (that can change the weather) and that can use a special Tera Z-Move.
I don´t get the "mostly exclusive to gyms" nitpick when it comes to Dynamax/Gmax. Literally every notable trainer in the region uses the gimmick aside from Piers and Peonia and if someone doesn´t like to use it you also still have regular battles. Also, the gym challenge is pretty much the core aspect of the story, so having the dynamax/gmax battles happening during the battles that actually matter for the story is kinda the point of it. Sure you can use terastalization againts regular npcs but it´s not as if those npcs use the mechanic. Team star and the titants don´t really use it either. So the tera battles are pretty much "mostly exclusive" to gyms just like with dynamax/gmax. I´d argue that less than that considering that the notable trainers from the other story routes don´t use it, not even in post-game. I like terastalization but I personally thing that (while relatively faster in raids) they´re also pretty messy. Half of the time it´s very hard to tell what´s going on and the tera pokemon sometimes gets health back out of nowhere.
I would say Terastallization, but I cannot find it in me to like the stupid hats. I think it only enforces the idea that it's a gimmick and is a bit too gaudy. I would love it they could've had some more variety like capes, armor, or other effects that also distinguish type instead of literally just hats
From a gameplay standpoint, love the terrastalization. From an aesthetic standpoint, hate it 😅 The giant hats are so ugly and keep me from using it as much as I’d want to 🤣
I like the tera type gimmick, because unlike Mega Evolution, you don't know what Tera type your opponent's pokemon is, and which pokemon they'll terastilize. Tera types can make you have to change your strategy in an instant, which I really like!
Teratype is neat and all, but visually, it's lame. Personally I thought Z-moves were the worst, because they were just a random nuke attack with barebones animation, and Mega Evolution / Primal Reversion was the best because of the cool looks. I didn't really care about the competitive stuff as I'm more of a casual player. It was sad so few mons had Mega stones, but at least they put efforts in those transformations. Tho I admit have a Mega mon every battle was kinda cheap. Gigantamax was cool for that. Being restricted to gyms and raids made them special and more balanced, plus they had cool transformations just like Mega Evolutions, but Dynamax in general was kinda lame. All moves being replaced by generic moves took away what made each Pokemon unique, and personally, "Pokemon is huge" is kinda boring. Plus a mon not always having access to its Gigantamax and leaving it to luck (or farming in a DLC) if they can or not was seriously bad.
In the extra features I'd say that terastallization has improved quite a bit the possibility of using a Pokemon from a typically considered bad typing (Bug, Ice, etc.) and still do good despite being from said bad type. I didn't classify this as a balance discussion because there's no special interaction of terastallization with these bad types whatsoever, it's the same with every type, it just happens that Pokemon originally from these "bad" types benefit a lot from terastalizing and it allows them to be viable (at least more than before) with this battle gimmick.
I like the depth in how versatile Tera can be used. In singles I think it’s great. In doubles however it can produce a huge number of combos that are stupid op insta wins if your not prepared for it.
they will come up with a new gimmick which will cause you to take less damage from foe's attack and will cause your stats +1 in atk,spatk,speed..just a guess lol
Lets be honest, every pokemon fan ever in the exsistence of the universe loves Megas or atleast a few Megas, but i don't think we can call Terra the worst gimmick. Its somewhere in the middle ig
Some megas are cool, but overall I never liked the gimmick tbh It being completely limited to a small pool of pokemon essentially forced you to use one of them if you wanted to be on equal footing power-wise in the main campaign and I kinda just hated that fact Things like Mega Gardevoir, Gallade, or Metagross aren't exactly the easiest thing to overcome At least the later gimmicks allowed any pokemon to use them
I liked the new designs, but appart from that the only game I can use them in is let's go where it didn't feel like it added anything and I heard it is just not balanced at all in the competitive scene (mega legendaries shouldn't exist). not to mention if you want to use it you have to add certain pokemon to your team, which just sucks. dynamax has the same benefits (new designs for some pokemon in the form of gigantamax), but felt like it changed something and is more balanced simply because every pokemon could use them. for the anime though, megas were way cooler.
Because of how widely it was implemented terastallization was fantastic for people who liked it and horrid for people who didn't, I wish these gimmicks were optional. It made ace pokemon in big battles more important so that was good I guess
imo in terms of how cool it is terastalization is worse than dynamax. Like wow they get a funny hat. And I hate Tera raids. I don’t see how anybody prefers them over dynamax the lag makes them borderline unplayable
It was so poorly executed that honestly despite it seeming super cool at first, it seems boring and useless and only occasionally impossibly difficult…which still ain’t fun
I like the idea of them being able to tap into the power of their type, or even the cross typing like a water type that Terras into a fire. Im just a big fan of the giant chandeliers on top of their heads. Kinda silly looking
The usage is ok, but it is basically, here is a hat have a new type. It is balanced, but it is underwhelming and seems lazily designed as far as appearance is concerned.
At this point I'm just really curious how thay can make any more battle gimmicks that don't feel derivative of one's we already have. Like, we saw megas give pokemon Stat boosts and new forms, we saw z moves do powered up moves, dynamax did kind of a mix of both, and terras gave pokemon powered up types. At this point I feel like the only other thing they could do is some kind of gimmick that impacts abilities. So like Probably a gimmick that'll let a pokemon have two abilities or something
The best thing about mega evolution was that it shone a spotlight on sometimes underrated or even ignored Pokémon. Banette, Slowbro and Glalie for instance may not have been as appealing to most players, but their megas gave them a nice glow up. But I feel like Gamefreak managed to do exactly that by simply making another category of Pokémon to shine on old ones: Paradox Pokémon. Flutter Mane made me like Misdreavus and Mismagius more for example. Maybe they can eclipse their original inspiration, no one really cares about Delibird but a lot of people appreciate Iron Bundle's sheer strength and speed. But despite this flaw Paradox Pokémon are a nice addition to give a certain "glow up" to older Pokémon, so that the gimmick can be more universal and fair. I think moving forward we won't have a mega evolution like gimmick, instead we will have a fair and universal gimmick while they introduce a new class of Pokémon that can base itself from older ones.
I love the Teratype gimmick for the most part. I just hate the stupid hats not only are they just ugly but thier also completely unnecessary you can already tell ther type chage by the fact they glow that types color. As for form change the crystallized body’s where more then enough in fact if it weren’t for the hats it’d look really cool. TLDR those hats suck
You’re forgetting an important consideration. Mega, while only pertaining to certain Pokémon, was able to breathe life back into some long forgotten Pokémon, making them useful and good to play. Tera doesn’t do that. Mawile is ok. Mega Mawile is awesome! Tera Mawile is just Mawile. Yeah, Tera is pretty cool, but it doesn’t really help out weaker Pokémon in the way Mega did to those that got it.

Plus more mega animations would need to be created to keep the gimic growing and that animation would have outspaced uther areas in tbe game so a powerup animation that could be used on all pokemon was a better solution. I still would have liked mega to stay but I see why it was dropped.
I would love to see a game that pits all the gimmicks together and fight NPC's that uses different ones and you can pick from one and is a critical plot point to the story.
So we could get like in the anime's final, Mega Evolution vs Gigantamax. I'd love that.
@@xtrem5428 Yes, but all of them. Megas, Z-moves, the Max forms, and Terastallization. You'd have to choose one and the one you choose changes the story in a key way.
imagine a mega, dynamax, tera baziken using a fire z move to a random grass type
I don't have any feelings about Terastallization. But I would prefer it if GF would expand, work and ballance on already introduced gimmicks instead of dumping them in the next games...
Agreed.
Yugioh has countless summoning mechanics that they never ditched. Sure its not perfect but at least even rituals can get some continued support.
6:05 That's not an unfair coin flip, that's just an opponent who successfully kept options open until the end.
My thought too. You could just as easily say, “he could use a fire type move, or a flying type move, it’s an unfair coin flip”
I think that kind of thing just adds to the fun personally.
I’m not shooting down the idea, I just don’t know what people are expecting when they bring it up.
it is rumoured in the DLC we might get terra forms
yeah, the hats look pretty stupid to be fair
@@CaptainObliviousV The way I'd see it, is if a certain Pokémon had a certain tera type, maybe they got a unique transformation. That said, dual type teras would also be really really cool. Maybe these special dual types have unique form changes.
I just really want any option that doesn't have a silly hat xD.
@@MagusAgrippa8 Maybe they gain a pixilate like boost to their normal moves?
But after you complete the main story the amount of shards needed is lowered to around 20 to ease the mind numbing grinding you need to do
This may be a hot take but I like that not every pokemon got a mega, it made it special
I agree with that, but it would have been cool if more had them (and especially during the main game. ORAS had many new stones like Gallade being post-game only)
Facts + if they continued with it to the next generations we could’ve expanded on it with more Mons that can get it
Hot garbage take megas we’re the best
why exactly are only some pokemon capable of Mega evolving? kinda forces u to use only a certain pokemon
The biggest complaint is why Starters Pokemon didn't get mega?
It was introduced in gen 6 but gen 6 starters can't get benefits from it.🥴🥴🥴
I love the actual transformations for Mega Evolutions but fully accept that it's sort of limited in scope for that reason since giving EVERY Pokemon ever another form would be ludicrous even when Megas first came out.
I can’t be the only one who initially thought terra types added a third typing, can I?
I wouldn't blame you. It really just gives three STAB options
If they focus more on actually changing types, Terastallization has potential to be the coolest of these powers
How could they focus on changing types moreso than they already have? There’s a move that shifts type based on your tera, terastalizing further boosts your matching type moves beyond just stab, terastalizing can even be used defensively. Not sure what’s wrong with it.
Imagine double teralizating
*I've been sweeping with a Drought-Torkal and Solarbeam Grass Tera Armarouge...*
*It is SOOO FUN😂*
A Better Question: Which Terrastallize Hat is the Best
the steel hat is pretty tight ngl
@@JPRPokeTrainer98 Tera Hat tier list?
4:20 I don't agree this just made me never use tera on my regular playthrough outside of important battles as i wasn't frequently healing at a pokemon center and its just annoying to have to recharge it every time
THANK YOU ! 👏🏽
Game Freak is probably sweating knowing after Gen 5 Remakes they're coming up to games that Introduced gimmicks
Well ORAS and LGPE had the mega evolution gimmick as did USUM
So far BDSP are the only remakes post-Gen 6 to ignore Mega Evolution or the other gimmicks
@@mazharsiddiqi7288 I don't have hight hopes for Gen5 Remakes considering the poor state of BDSP...
Game freak know their marketing, if it isn't ILCA, it would probably be half decent at least.
It's certainly one of the better Gimmicks added to Pokemon.
Honestly, I miss megas 😢
Same
Hey, don't be sad, Gen 6 remakes will bring back your precious megas
We just gotta get through Gen 5 remakes lol
Then go play the let's go or one of the 4 other mainline games it's in cry baby
@@angryaromatisse1801 I'm really hoping when the time for gen 6 remakes comes, they actually put effort into them and add new mega evolutions instead of doing what BDSP did. It would also be cool if the games before the remakes brought back mega evolution too
What I liked about the Tera fights (both gym and raid dens) is the fact you can't brute force your way through most of the time.
I.E. Iono has a Tera Electric Mistrevious with levitate so ground moves are ineffective. And the 6 star raid dens are challenging because you gotta think of potential counters the pokemon might have against your own.
good morning, he says again at 3pm 😂 never change jpr
don't worry I won't LOL
Second best gimmick. Megas are just hard to beat. People want them back idk if people will want Terra’s back once they’re gone
Agreed
Huh, didn’t know you could recharge your Tera Orb just by interacting with a Tera Raid Den, that’s so good to know, and totally makes sense. Now I won’t be too stingy using it bc I don’t like hitting up the Pokéstops too often.
This video was uploaded at the same time as a false swipe gaming video. Crazy
Do i have to mention Iono’s Mismagius
You'll live. You don't play competitive so you probably wouldn't understand how good the mono type can be instead of having a dual typing like grass/bug
w jpr upload but all ima say is gmax urshifu is best gimmick design besides mega ray
also saying tera raids >max raids is wild tera raids feel like they dont work
Mega evolution: like the concept, dislike the designs (most of them)
Gmax: dislike the concept, like the designs
I think Terastallization is the worst gimmick mostly because of the Tera Shard thing as well as the fact that so many NPCs don't change their Ace's Tera Type to one it didn't have like the Gym Leaders do. Also I think Mega Evolution is the best but I strongly agree that it's not used enough and on top of that what really annoys me is that they had 5 games to perfect it and they didn't, Dynamax would be the best if Gigantamax wasn't SO hard to get without the DLC and I feel Z Moves are great but kind of forgettable.
The idea is interesting. I like that Pokémon can change type. But the “hats” just look tacky and weird
They should've stopped at Mega-Evolutions.
Kinda would've felt boring
@@armani3298 Gigantamax, Totems, and Tera is overkill.
Agreed, it kinda went downhill from there Imo
Lore wise I really love Megas and I think they are cool and flashy but Terra has been surprisingly awesome. To me it’s tied with Megas. They are both the best for different reasons
I'd honestly say it's probably the best. Megas are still the prevailing favourite to the masses but to me it's mostly coasting off of the raw hype they bring with people ignoring the issues that came with it. Yeah, Tera isn't exactly gonna be turning heads at first but the simple act of letting a Pokemon change type is so interesting and dynamic with battles, especially with how it's balanced.
JPR having the background/wallpaper on the edges of the screen the whole video reminds me of Scott the Woz's blue border and I will never shake that
Terra should get some extra points added to hype because of the gym battles
When the music changes it’s wild
I feel like they could've made all of these tweaks to Mega Evolution instead of making new gimmicks...
Give every Pokemon a "flat" or "standard" Mega Boost and give some access to the Evolutions (give more of them additional forms to choose from so we'd get more variety and possible strategies), add that Pokemon Center recharge thing, give more NPC Trainers Megas in general...
So a bit like Dynamax and Gigantamax? Could have been neat, yeah.
had the most potential but ended up with the worst execution.
I've always believed that Mega evolution should return as a permanent feature, but with some changes
1. All non-evolving and final stage evolutions get one, aside from legendaries
2. The stat boosts provided by mega evolution get cut in half or even eliminated (I'm not entirely 100% on this one)
3. Mega evolution always causes a change in typing and abilities, and in some cases known moves
4. Remove the need to hold a Mega stone, so you don't need to sacrifice your item slot or collect 600 stones
More then likely the DLC will change how many Terra shards you need or a way to get more faster. One option is a shard trader that converts any shard to the same amount of your choice.
Hmmm that snubbull cookie?! I wonder who made it lmaooo 🤣🤣 ahh awesome video as usual ❤
It’s the most ridiculous, looking one that’s for sure
Imagine all four (or five if you count weather-changing abilities as a gimmick) gimmicks in one game and having one major battle where the gimmicks are all combined into a single ultimate Pokemon boss battle where you face a Terastallized (plus whatever thing they might add to that in the DLC), Gigantomaxed/Dynamaxed Mega-Evolved Legendary Pokemon (that can change the weather) and that can use a special Tera Z-Move.
I love Terrastrializing, but Megas will always be #1 in my heart. I’m still hoping they make a comeback at some point.
Your channel deserves wayyy more subscribers, love the videos!
From an aesthetic standpoint, hate it 😅 The giant hats are so ugly and keep me from using it as much as I’d want to 🤣
Ikr!
I like the tera type gimmick, because unlike Mega Evolution, you don't know what Tera type your opponent's pokemon is, and which pokemon they'll terastilize.
Tera types can make you have to change your strategy in an instant, which I really like!
I enjoy terastilisation, but it just is entirely too weak, with it not really increasing the damage that much.
I think terastilizing is okay, but I also wonder if a Pokémon game could be good without a new gimmick from here on out.
Tera is the reason I stopped playing semi-serious competitive this generation. I just don't enjoy Tera all that much as a gimmick.
I like the depth in how versatile Tera can be used. In singles I think it’s great. In doubles however it can produce a huge number of combos that are stupid op insta wins if your not prepared for it.
I wonder what's the Gen X gimmick they will come up with.
they will come up with a new gimmick which will cause you to take less damage from foe's attack and will cause your stats +1 in atk,spatk,speed..just a guess lol
Lets be honest, every pokemon fan ever in the exsistence of the universe loves Megas or atleast a few Megas, but i don't think we can call Terra the worst gimmick. Its somewhere in the middle ig
Some megas are cool, but overall I never liked the gimmick tbh
It being completely limited to a small pool of pokemon essentially forced you to use one of them if you wanted to be on equal footing power-wise in the main campaign and I kinda just hated that fact
Things like Mega Gardevoir, Gallade, or Metagross aren't exactly the easiest thing to overcome
At least the later gimmicks allowed any pokemon to use them
I liked the new designs, but appart from that the only game I can use them in is let's go where it didn't feel like it added anything and I heard it is just not balanced at all in the competitive scene (mega legendaries shouldn't exist). not to mention if you want to use it you have to add certain pokemon to your team, which just sucks.
dynamax has the same benefits (new designs for some pokemon in the form of gigantamax), but felt like it changed something and is more balanced simply because every pokemon could use them.
for the anime though, megas were way cooler.
I don't know if Regionals count as a "Gimmick",
If it does, Then I've really loved the Regionals
they're in all the games now so they don't count as a generational gimmick but they are very cool
You can literally play Scarlet and Violet without terrastalizing
Wouldn't call it the best, solely because we have mega evolutions.
It was so poorly executed that honestly despite it seeming super cool at first, it seems boring and useless and only occasionally impossibly difficult…which still ain’t fun
John: To be as “Crystal clear” as possible…
*Hai, JPR ja… NAITO!!!!*
Mega > Z moves > Tera > dynamax
I like the idea of them being able to tap into the power of their type, or even the cross typing like a water type that Terras into a fire. Im just a big fan of the giant chandeliers on top of their heads. Kinda silly looking
This man ignores the best gimmick, battle styles from Arceus.
The usage is ok, but it is basically, here is a hat have a new type. It is balanced, but it is underwhelming and seems lazily designed as far as appearance is concerned.
I like tera just for the cool hats the pokemon get!!
Tera made me miss having a mono type it makes the game way more better
I just think the designs could've been better than just a hat tho.
A cool way they could do the crystal onix evolution was put the ice tera type on your onix and use it 10 or 20 times.
So like Probably a gimmick that'll let a pokemon have two abilities or something
maybe they'll just start recycling them but that would feel weird I think
megas already impacted abilities in the sense that megas had new abilities
I just want Megas back 😔
Terastilization is the best mechanic. Collecting 50 tera shards is the worst mechanic lol
9:40 there's a reason megas are so popular to this day
It's somewhere in the middle. Not as iconic as megas but way more fun than Z moves and Gigantimax.
I absolutely hate it when the raids just lag out and you lose precious time just to have your tera orbs energy stolen and half your team wiped out.
Mega evolution is the coolest gimmick, but Tera is the best gimmick so far.
my favourite gimic was dinamax because you yust distroy everything the tera then z moves and then megas
“I don’t like when it comes to that” WELCOME TO COMPETITIVE WITH GIMMICKS XDDD
To me is tied up in second place with Gigamax.
First place ofc is megas and last is the god awful z-moves
I hated it at first, but I've come to like it based on the fact you can be strategic with what terra type your pokemon has
Good vid my dude keep up the good work 💯💯
Teh-rapa-goes? it’s Te-ra-pay-goes
Tera Types feel like a riskier Hidden Power, which I like.
7:22 you better give me that cookie! 😁🍪
Maybe but it does help mons with horrible typings that can't live up to their maximum. I see that as the equivalent to what you said personally
I love when the opinions I hear are the correct ones
