  • Transite asbestos was a common product used to vent gas appliances such as furnaces, boilers, and water heaters in older homes in Minnesota. This material is no longer used because the interior of the vent can deteriorate and flake apart, collapsing in on itself. That, and it contains asbestos. Once the interior of the flue deteriorates it can get blocked, causing hazardous exhaust gases from the appliance to vent back into the home, rather than be carried to the exterior.

Good video, sounds like a properly thorough inspection of that house. I was particularly impressed you check for exhaust spillage at the appliance, an important safety check of interior installed water heaters. I would only add that it's good practice to look down any accessible vent, flue or chimney made of any material for damage.

It's a toss up whether asbestos or mold causes more hysteria.

I would like to know how to open a panel and immediately tell if all of the three pin outlets are going to read open ground or not.
