Your video gave me the confidence to go up there and address my system on my own. I learned a lot and significcantly reduced a lot of leakage. Ty!
I'll bet that a stick of incense would work and be really a really cheap way of testing for leaks.
Incense sticks from Dollar Tree work great, too.
Exactly what I need. Thanks guy.
I've got a steam diffuser i will use that for the smoke test
Thank you for a very helpful video. I learned a great deal. Carry On Sir!
Thanks, will do!
Very good video! Is there a possibility that the duct is disconnected or broken inside the walls?
If so, how would you go about finding where it is
I needed this video. Thank you!
Incense sticks work well too if you don't mind the smell
great idea 💡
have fun with fire in the attic - kind of insane
@@bekind2047 I'm in the north, all our ducts are in damp basements like in the video. I would only use professional tools in a hot dry attic like in the south; don't want to take too long in there and die of heat stroke!
i just go buy a vape then attach it with tape to my shopvac (remove the vac filter set to water mode) & goto town with that
@@floridagirl9064 holy shyt this is actually genius. Get a good smelling vape flavor for more fun.
Better to just tape over the leaks, then mastic over that. The HVAC caulking is really expensive and not needed for the leaks you have.
When sealing leaky ducts. Should I first put down tape then go over the tape with mastic? Or is it best to use a thin amount of mastic then tape and go over it again with mastic. I really want to make sure everything is sealed. And can I do this in the winter while the heat is on?
if I'm sealing existing ductwork (from the outside) I prefer tape first then duct sealant. I feel it helps secure the tape and creates a nice permanent finish and allows the tape adhesive to do its work. Only issue with applying mastic while the heat is running is the risk of the air pressure creating some holes in the mastic before it has a chance to dry.
Thanks for watching!
Previous home owners sealed up wveything including the filter access. What's the best way to remove mastic to access the filter?
Razor blade/utility knife in the seams should break it free… it’s usually not very strong, just seals gaps. Love when PO’s leave fun surprises!
Thanks for watching
incense stick will do the same thing and you get like 30+ stick for 2 bucks.
love it thx!
Just use a vape pen. Tons more ’smoke’ on demand and cheap.
great tip thx!
Nothing on the actual sealing
What about using incense?
For sure they would work just as well. They also make smoke pens that work like incense without the fragrance.

Better to use foil tape as it won't mold like the goop.
Mastic won't mold any more than foil tape will. Mold will grow on dust that collects on either mastic or tape. Mastic is not a growth medium for mold.
Yeah, that would work great if I could just walk right up to all my duct work.
incense stick, even cheaper option for cheapasses like me.
Piece of paper will work without that toy!
Not as well.
If you are walking around your attic with a lit piece of paper, you are an idiot.
Use a vape pen, ask any kid
thats what i do. attach it to the shopvac to blow in
You don’t have protective suit, mask, gloves.
🤪thanks for watching!
For what? This is the air that you are blowing through your entire house. Why would you need PPE for that?
Funny guy.
How about bubble 🧼🫧test? 😉
