I love how every little thing can pose a gigantic threat to performance. Java needs to have its code base updated to actually support parallel processing immediately this is getting ridiculous.
7:56 As someone who makes data packs, I AGREE. The frequent updates that change a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff are nice and all but they totally break data packs. Its annoying to have to update them all every time Mojang decides to (for example) randomly change the file names from "recipes" to "recipe" (a one letter difference that just breaks everything for something so basic and pointless).
That change was long overdue. The naming convention for registries is for them to be singular nouns, but a lot of the older registries weren’t up to date. That’s why they decided to do it at the same time as they added item components since they were already breaking things
Naming conventions are important as they mean you can just go: (minecraft:item, minecraft:golden_shovel) without needing to think / have everything memorized
@palmberry5576 Yeah but the issue is they changed the naming conventions for seemingly no reason (literally just removing the s at the end so they wouldn't be plural). It was perfectly fine before they changed it so it feels completely random.
@@lasercraft32 it’s because registries are registry entries inside the registry registry, and because of English grammar. You don’t have the “items registry”, you either have the “item registry” or the “registry for items”. Assuming you go for the shorter, more idiomatic English version, you avoid the issue of it being inconsistent with every other registry value in the game. (i.e., it’s not minecraft:golden_shovels, minecraft:birch_forests, or minecraft:ender_dragons, so why should it be minecraft:biomes or minecraft:activities) It also avoids the issue of irregular plural nouns making things just slightly harder to search, and matches up with enum naming conventions.
3:22 I can see bundles also being used to hide malicious inventory items, so these could easily become problematic. Then again, they could be used altruistically as makeshift shulkers to crash pay 2 win / pay 2 play servers.

Neat thing about the pearls as well, if you have friends, you can basically use them as a friend being able to teleport you back to base from wherever you are.
Bro I’ve been loosely watching your content for years now and no matter what a video is about or when it was made they’re all always super high quality, kudos to you man!
I feel like there is another consequence of the pearls, being that all states chambers will now become actively loaded chunks , making them super easy to find and potentially revealing cords
There’s one REALLY specific reason why drops WILL become better for devs and server owners, but that will only be in the future, it’s absolutely abysmal right now. Hear me out here: One of the biggest reasons why Minecraft mods break between every update is because the core code of the game is largely rewritten, making mod loaders not be able to patch into them correctly anymore, and changes to the mod loader often means requiring changes to the way mods USE the mod loader. Also, everyone complained about Mojang still not adding those modding tools they supposedly promised years ago, right? Wrong. What do you think datapacks are intended to be? Yeah, they’re limited right now, but they’ve actively been getting updated with more and more content multiple times a year. Most people assume that previous mod developers like the one behind the aether were hired on to help them add a new dimension, but Mojang is more than capable of that themselves. What they REALLY needed was somebody experienced with the issues of developing mods who could provide some insight on what could be done to mitigate those issues, and what do we already see? Mods that add custom world generation and biomes and dimensions are now already using datapacks packaged with the mods to load the content in, I’ve seen it several times. And now with custom enchantments in datapacks, those will likely be getting used by mod developers, and the component system is far faster than NBT, allowing mods that need to story custom item data to be far more performant and capable. Mojang has been fundamentally rewriting the core of the game for years, since around 1.15, “the update that only added bees” as one person once told me, completely ignoring the fact that the update was intended to rebuild the core of the game so that it could run on a potato compared to previous versions, finally getting rid of all of Notch’s sloppy code from when nobody could have expected where the game would be now. We are effectively a few updates away from datapacks being so capable that 90% of most mods will be able to be made with them alone, we essentially need components to be added to blocks and entities, a system for adding custom blocks, items, and entities, lumping resource packs into datapacks, scriptable mob AI and more complex events than the janky commands system (but I understand the potential risks of allowing Java code files to be loaded dynamically), access to the graphics pipeline for shaders, and that’s basically it. Once Mojang has all of that, they almost never need to change the core of the game again except for bug fixes. Every content update could be done as an optional mod that you could load into the game just like any user-made ones, and since the core of the game itself isn’t being changed very often, mod loaders are free to patch into it whatever they want to make up for what datapacks CAN’T do, even after all the additions. Simply put, yes, it sucks to be a mod developer or server owner right at this moment, and I’d probably recommend you just don’t update for a little while if you can avoid it, but within 2 or 3 years I’m willing to bet that the game will be getting VERY close to this state where nobody will need to worry about it again. People complain a lot about Mojang, but the work they’ve been doing behind the scenes is going to be well worth it. (Also, people might say “but what about Bedrock?! It doesn’t have datapacks, addons are very different”, but you should note that Bedrock is very much not modded and has much less options for servers, since despite being the more played version by numbers, it’s the less enjoyed version by people who are technically capable enough to set those things up to begin with. Plus, I’m sure they’ll try to add a similar functionality to datapacks if not better to Bedrock eventually, but ultimately it’s Java that is experiencing all the issues with not having proper modding tools in the core engine)
Add-ons are actually very functional and get new features regularly, these features just can't be used on the Marketplace and as such practically don't exist to most people who can't use MCPDL or whatever it's called.
@ yeah, I know they’re quite capable, it wasn’t to say they aren’t, but they’re definitely a VERY different system intended for very different use cases, and the amount of overlap between them and datapacks pretty much ends at loot tables being similar formats, if I even remember that part correctly. Even with functional equivalents for mod support in Bedrock though, there just isn’t the support or desire for it from most people on that version. Maybe once Java is all finished and mods reach a new peak popularity people will start asking for it on Bedrock, who knows
@ it’s still not the point. Yes, bedrock users enjoy having them, but the support for them is DRASTICALLY less than Java mods, it’s not even a close competition between the variety and depth, at least not last I saw. Not to mention, MCPEDL is only good for mobile and PC, or console players joining mobile or PC worlds, so the “mod-like” content of addons isn’t even supported for half of the platforms it’s on
@@GameJam230 Yes, that was the point I was making. Add-ons can never be as good as mods because of the Marketplace restrictions which also mean that the heights of add-ons can't be reached because they'd barely be available, as opposed to mods which are available on all of the platforms they are usable for.
I could see enderpearls in stasis on redstone flying machines being used to preload map chunks. With enough of them you could preload and render a rediculous amount of the map causing map file storage to increase dramatically.
I have a friend who's running a server and these smaller updates are being an absolute pain in the ass. It wouldn't be *that* big an issue but he's committed to running GeyserMC, which allows for Java & Bedrock crossplay, which is really cool until you realize that Bugrock is FORCED to play the latest version as far as we know. And it's also an extra problem because PaperMC takes a while to update on its own right. Indeed, they're great for casuals and an absolute nightmare for server owners.
How tf do new biomes even spawn in 2b2t? I feel like every chunk would have been loaded by now lol. Or at least close enough to make finding new chunks extremely difficult.

@palmberry5576 the point of the matter is Mojang changing too much too fast for me to return for the time being, and there's a lot too much of my old works that can't simply be auto-ported (got data stuff from 1.19)

you could change the pearl loading to only chunk load one pearl per player so long as its under a certain speed.
One chunk loading pearl per player which only loads chunks it has been for more than one second. It's a good compromise on servers where the mechanic might be weaponized
one of these days i kind of want 2b2t to be backed up for posteriety and then have the entire server reset just to see the fallout such an event would cause.

Maybe Some kind of cap on the maximum velocity that an ender Pearl can go?
I love how every little thing can pose a gigantic threat to performance. Java needs to have its code base updated to actually support parallel processing immediately this is getting ridiculous.
Using Creaking as a scarecrow in a farm sound like a dope design for a farm
(i.e., it’s not minecraft:golden_shovels, minecraft:birch_forests, or minecraft:ender_dragons, so why should it be minecraft:biomes or minecraft:activities)
It also avoids the issue of irregular plural nouns making things just slightly harder to search, and matches up with enum naming conventions.
3:22 I can see bundles also being used to hide malicious inventory items, so these could easily become problematic.
Then again, they could be used altruistically as makeshift shulkers to crash pay 2 win / pay 2 play servers.
I honestly didn't even know about the chunk loading ender pearls thing. Like I guess it makes sense mechanically for most players, but feels like they definitely overlooked its impact on big servers.

I feel like there is another consequence of the pearls, being that all states chambers will now become actively loaded chunks , making them super easy to find and potentially revealing cords
HE RETURNS
I thought the hidden effect of the eyebloom would be a coordinate leak.
There’s one REALLY specific reason why drops WILL become better for devs and server owners, but that will only be in the future, it’s absolutely abysmal right now. Hear me out here:
One of the biggest reasons why Minecraft mods break between every update is because the core code of the game is largely rewritten, making mod loaders not be able to patch into them correctly anymore, and changes to the mod loader often means requiring changes to the way mods USE the mod loader.
@@GameJam230 No, Bedrock people seem to love the add-ons, now we can all access them. They seem to be selling well. We even have Tinker's Construct.
I wouldn't be surprised if Someone tried to get as many Creaking Hearts as possible and spread them throughout the spawn.
Problems = Challenges. All of it should be no big deal to fix.
How tf do new biomes even spawn in 2b2t? I feel like every chunk would have been loaded by now lol. Or at least close enough to make finding new chunks extremely difficult.
Ehh you'd be surprised
