Adolescents released one of the greatest punk records and they're not on the list!?
Dan That one you're talking about is a complete masterpiece. I wonder why it didn't appear on the list
My favorite from 81/82 era
This list was trash.
This video reminds me how much I love the Descendants, and Milo! He burned them in the first 5 seconds. He has got the true spirit.
Not only should Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables have been higher, it shouldn't have been picked as the best Dead Kennedys record
Which is your favorite? I love In God We Trust Inc. but that's more of an ep
i agree that IGWTI is their best release, i like fresh fruit before plastic surgery disastors
plastic surgery disasters is by far the best dead kennedys album.
Fresh Fruit is way more important than PS.
@@PesterFester1966 Maybe more important, I think PSD is better though
as they should. a greatest punk list that has blink 182 on it and green day 20 spots higher than the only fugazi album is a joke.
+TAKE ME TO UR DEALER boo hoo says the blink 182 fan. went to the dealer one too many times, it seems. he must be selling pussification pills.
+TAKE ME TO UR DEALER so is your taste in music. clearly. I don't have to argue fugazis greatness. it's set in stone.
+TAKE ME TO UR DEALER that's how it is when you diss fugazi, son. haha, now get the fuck outta here.
+TAKE ME TO UR DEALER hahaha. thanks
+Moose J as much as I agree with you about blink, Green days early stuff was very much punk and Dookie was a landmark for mainstream punk. So why the fuck wouldn't It be on there? I hate green days new stuff but Dookie, insomniac and Nimrod were very good. You should stop with your arrogance it's really fucking cringy and gay
No D.O.A means list invalidated.
i feel like the rolling stone gets their lists by just googling 'punk albums' and then the first 40 they see make the list, ignoring how many awesome albums there are where you have to actually look deeper.
They have a point with the lack of Adolescents
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables would definitely be top 10 and Wire and Gang of Four would not be in my top 10. Suicidal Tendencies would be in my list but some would argue they are not punk. Devo would not make my top 40. Misfits top 3 for me obviously. Replacements would also be higher and Punk in Drublic would be in there by NOFX if anyone has been living under a rock. Rancid out come the wolves, Bad Religion Stranger than fiction. I would also include Damned, Damned, Damned by you've guessed it The Damned. Out comes Sleater Kinney. Blink 182 would not be in my list. I would also include Energy by Operation Ivy. Joy Division would not be in my list or Yeah Yeah Yeahs. That is just off the top of my head.
I absolutely love DEVO, but I agree that they shouldn't be on this list. They were never punk, they were something else entirely. It's just a bad list.
@@demonicsweaters Agreed
How can anyone argue Suicidal Tendencies is not punk? I'm not crazy...INSTITUTION...you're the one who's crazy....INSTITUTION...they put me in an institutions, said it was the only solution...
Hey that’s the guy from the cover of Milo Goes To College!
fuck is regan youth in the list? that band was fucking badass
The Descendents, Fugazi and The Stooges are the best of the best!!!
I would say Husker Du, but they leaned more to Alternative later.
Husker Du has always been punk in approach and intent, even when they were on Warner Brothers.
@@JMarinelli cool
Greatest punk records (as voted by boffins in the marketing department that only listen to commercial top 40 radio and wouldn't know a punk band if it popped up in their breakfast cereal)
They probably based it on their favorite T-shirts.
rolling stone's top 40 punk records is objectively incorrect because black flag's my war is not number one.
also green day is bad.
frog man...who's got the 10 1/2 blows my war away
Yeah! My war has some of the best songs but mixed the worst. Who’s got the 10 1/2 has some of the best versions👍
I mean green Day is not bad but really tho why do green day beat DK and Bad Brains
Well, Green Day isn't necessarily bad. Fuck, I even find myself enjoying some Green Day once in a while. I do have to admit that the Descendents, Misfits, Bad Brains, Circle Jerks and Black Flag over them any day.
You're wrong about GD, but I do agree My War deserves more love.
They put Sleater-Kinny Dig me out as #14, hahaha WTF? I mean it's not a bad album, but let's be serious, it doesn't even come close to being deserving of the list in any conceivable way. Also, where the hell is Youth Of Today? Or any other NY/HC band of the 90s. That stuff was legendary and was without a doubt one of the biggest punk scenes in the country back then. I don't know why I care since Rolling Stone has a legacy of boneheaded crap like this, but still.
Why the fuck is nirvana on the list?
because they r punk and grunge is just another name of punk!
Let's be honest, Nirvana has way more in common with old school punk bands than they do with Pearl Jam or Soundgarden
YoDawgoneeleven So, you're telling me that a song like heart shaped box has more in common with a song like sailin' on than it has with a song like rooster? Have you ever even heard nirvana before? Sure nirvana can occasionally have a bad religion-esque punk sound, but is that really enough to put in in the top 10 above ACTUAL classic punk bands like Descendants, bad brains, Dead Kennedy's, minor threat, or Buzzcocks? Let's be honest, Nevermind is only on this list because Rolling Stone has a hardon for nirvana, and the fact that they consider nirvana more punk then bad brains, Descendants and dead Kennedy's is utterly insulting.
+xXBantamCatXx wtf is being more punk? all nirvana members were influenced by punk rock ,their lyrics were explicit and on point ,nobody gave a fuck! whats your problem..
Just because a band is influenced by another band doesn't makes them of that genre. Mick Thomson from slipknot was influenced by Stevie ray Vaughn, so does that make slipknot a blues band? Also, explicit lyrics don't make a band punk. If that was true, then you'd be saying that some dogshit band like attila is punk. If you need more proof. just look up 'nirvana genre,' you won't see punk anywhere. it says 'Grunge rock' and 'alternative rock'
Born and raised a metalhead, and I can still make a much better list than this. Just for starters, Dead Boys, FEAR, Bad Religion, and Agnostic Front, instead of Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Joy Diivision.
Hell, even Less Than Jake and Offspring are more deserving to be on this list.
Love these guys
Same, and nice pic of Jimbo!!!
@@dj-um7el hell yea 🤘🏻
@@wide_awake yep!
only watched a minute. do they end up slamming into the film crew in their disputes with the list?
green day above bad brains and dk? fucking blasphemy.
Hmmm No GG Allin and The jabbers, they were a very good punk band and this before GG became the king of shock rock
Epic fail by RS...much like the RR hall of shame.
Ramones ftw
Is Milo rockin Duane Peters shoes?
HOW COULD HELL BE ANY WORSE
BAD RELIGION
Nirvana...
RedWhite&Blue 78 nirvana isn't punk
monger of shoes yes they are.
JayZombie1216 grunge, not punk
yuh grunge is not a genre. Grunge is a fucking fashion statement. No "grunge" band sounds alike...AIC and Soundgarden are metal bands, Nirvana is a punk rock band..Pearl Jam is alternative. Mudhoney is punk rock, Melvins are metal. Etc.
Listen to the stuff before 1990, hell, even before 1989 and tell me it's not punk
Where's NOFX ?
Greatest Punk record of all time is Supporting Caste by Propagandhi.
NOFX ?
Grizz Frank Sound like Descendents so
Grizz Frank Thanks for your answer dude, you admitted it they dont suck asses so much in contrary of Blink who have a place in this list.
Grizz Frank Yeah i think old songs sounds a bit like descendents and are okay to me
Everyone on here saying what punk is or what punk isn’t….kinda lame.
.Rolling Stone's choices? Right away you know this is not going to turn out well. And lo and behold right off the bat at 10 is Nevermind. NIRVANA IS NOT A PUNK BAND! Oh God, is this going to get worse. Numbers 9, 8 and 7 are OK. At 6 Wire? Ok that is a unique and great album but many are going to consider it sort of art/ art rock, if I can put it into a category. Anyway, that's a close call. At 5 is Gang of Four. Again a great album but isn't this post punk? I would not categorize it as punk. Gee, this isn't going very well, is it? You do know that Rolling Stone magazine was VERY late to recognize punk music. OK, let's see the top 4. I hope there will be Never Mind the Bollocks but I fear the worst from The Clash. Oh no! At 4 is Funhouse. Again this is proto punk.
Why oh why when you have so many great pure punk albums to chose from do you streeeetch the boundaries. At 3 no prob...thank heaven. At 2 Gee, my first pleasant surprise. They chose their pure punk debut over the sprawling London Calling. Of course they did not mention which version to get, the British or the American. That''s where I, the, ahem, punk professor can help you kids out. The British version leading, with Janie Jones, is how the band intended it and it flows much better than the American version, which does, however, add some good songs. But it omits some good ones too.
yeah the rolling stone posts "yeah so they have a problem with us, so we'll just post it and do nothing about it! everyone look the rolling stone is stupid!"
reading book
What was number 1 on this list?
ramones of course
Rolling Stones Magazine sucks
Why would you expect a decent top 40 list on punk from a buncha corporate sellouts like Rolling Stone?
Just like Rolling Stone to fuck up a "Greatest" list.
SLOPPY SECONDS
fuck rolling stone!
no offspring smash or pennywise first album is not on there.
they're not punk
matt11708 I really hope this is satire.
matt11708 and what smash are you talking about? Mouth or pumpkins?
hunter d its a offspring album.
Neither of those awful bands should be within the top 100 punk albums
You can never please hipsters and punk rockers.
...it's azz MAINSTREAM a RAG azz it GITS!
...Notice their PANDERING inclusion of a few MORE recent albums!
...Sleater Kenny and no GENERATION X ???
...NOBODY who got "into PUNK thru NIRVANA" ever actually became a PUNK ROCKER.
Not only should Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables have been higher, it shouldn't have been picked as the best Dead Kennedys record
YoDawgoneeleven plastic surgery disasters is their best album in my opinion
Nope.
