Maggie and her sycophants " militarised/politicised " the mutual aid concept. On the face of it, it makes sense to have a highly trained rapidly deployable unit in every force to assist in large scale civil unrest, manhunts or disasters. However she used the serials, particularly the MET to ruthlessly attack the miners during their strike. That's one of the reasons I left the police even though I had passed my Inspectors and was awaiting a posting.
