  • Follow along with us as we prepare this Ford Explorer ST for paint protection film and professional ceramic coatings on all painted surfaces and exterior glass.
First order is to apply ceramic window film to the front doors to help with privacy and to match the rear privacy glass, along with some added heat rejection. The rear glass is darkened from the factory, however it provides no heat or UV rejection. The owner opted to tint just the front two windows to match the rear glass aesthetically, and may come back at a later time to have the remainder of the vehicle completed.
Once the tinting was complete, the first step to protecting the exterior of this new Explorer ST is to eliminate any contaminants that may be bonded to the surface during transportation or from the factory. Even though the vehicle is brand new, contaminants, usually in the form of rail dust, can attach itself to the paint, leaving a rough surface. This must be removed prior to any paint protection film being applied to the vehicles paint. Even a single spec of dirt or sand will become very obvious underneath the film and the install will not look as clean or "invisible". To ensure the best possible install, we use a two part decontamination process, the initial step is via chemical during our wash process and the second is manually with a clay bar by hand.
Once the surface is perfectly clean and smooth, we can begin apply the paint protection film to all of the desired surfaces. For this Explorer ST, there is a lot gloss black or "piano black" trim, so we applied film to all of the vertical pillars, which includes the A/B/C and D pillars on the rear cargo area. This client also opted to protect the entire front end of the car, which includes the entire hood, front bumpers, both front fenders, headlights and mirrors. This will help protect the front of the vehicle from pitting and sand blasting or damage from debris in the road.
Once we the PPF is applied to the desired areas, we can begin to clean and prepare the rest of the vehicle for polishing. This Explorer came in needing very little polishing work, the paint was in pretty great shape, how you would EXPECT a new car to come in. We performed light single step polish to clean the surface of any oils from production and transportation, along with adding additional gloss before the coating is applied. Once we have the desired results with the paint polishing, we can begin the ceramic coating process. We use an alcohol spray to remove any remaining polishing oils or slips solutions from the install.
This client also opted for our top tier professional ceramic coating package, which we call the Gtechniq Crystal Serum Ultra "Black" Package. This includes a base layer of Crystal Serum Ultra, followed with EXOv5 on all of the exterior surfaces. We also applied a combination of these coatings on the door jambs, trunk plastics, interior carbon, etc. We also performed our wheels off detail and ceramic coating package, to make life easier for the client and keep brake dust from building and attaching itself to the wheel surface.

    An amazing job.
Removed the license plate to clean, polish and coat behind it. Much respect! ❤
