  • The Lisbon, Portugal greater metropolitan area includes the districts of both Lisbon and Setúbal. Within those districts are 18 different municipalities. Costa da Caparica is located in the Almada municipality, which is located within the Setúbal district.
    We hung out for a couple of days at the beach in Costa da Caparica. Across the Tagus River, this beach is very close to central Lisbon. We took an Uber from our apartment and it took about 20 minutes to get there.
    The beach is HUGE! Lots of room on the sand, a long boardwalk, and plenty of restaurants/bars with beach views. There were also several surf schools in the area.
    We stayed at Tryp Costa da Caparica Hotel, which was convenient and comfortable.

    We LOVED the BBQ burger at Friends Pub & Hamburgueria! Do yourself a favor and just go here if you love a good burger. Nice beer selection too.

    We even found some delicious nachos and tacos at Huracán. Being from Southern California, we're picky about Mexican food. We'd come back to Huracán!

    If you love spending time at the beach, you should definitely check out Costa da Caparica!

    When I was a teenager I used to go to the beach in Costa da Caparica. Take a bus or 2, plus the boat, walked from Trafaria to one of the first beaches in Costa da Caparica, and spend the morning there. This would be my routine for 1 month. Enjoyed it a lot.

    It's Southern California water temperature. It feels cold to people from tropical areas and it feels warm to people from Northern European countries.

    The beach water in Europe is cold to me but I’m used to Florida and Saint Simon Island, Georgia beaches. That being said, I don’t care how cold the water is, it’s all about the beach for me ❤️

      I find it refreshing after you spend some time tanning, once you dive in the water your body temperature adjusts and you don’t want to leave, great on a hot summer day in Portugal

    Hey Kirsten - fellow San Diegan here - though this beach could almost be a standin for Huntington Beach, OC - right down to the tacos!. Not surprised that you wouldn’t find the water too cold, being from SD. What people sometimes forget is colder water = lower humidity.

    The beach is about 10 miles long. There used to be a little tourist train along the coast, but I don't know if it's still working. There's a lagoon further south called Lagoa de Albufeira, a beautiful spot.

    Beautiful! "Friends" looked so cool. Do you recall the month/day of the week this was? This is totally my type of uncrowded glory!

      Thanks for watching! I see you as we absolutely live for this life without the crowds 🤣 It was definitely a weekday, and in our sweet spot that falls between lunchtime and dinner time. Many (most?) restaurants in Portugal open for lunch usually until about 3pm, and then reopen for dinner at around 7pm or 8pm. We’re always on the hunt for a place that is open continuously with good eats. This place was awesome, friendly, and I would dare say the best burgers we’ve had here in Portugal. And we’ve been to many of the usual suspects. This was the real deal.

    Thanks Kirsten for showing Costa da Caparica-which I’ve heard a lot about but haven’t visited (yet). The area, beach and water all look lovely. Hope you don’t mind a few questions: 1) Is it practical to do a day trip from Lisbon on public transportation? 2) Does the beach also rent chairs and umbrella’s? 3) What month did you visit-it looked not too crowded so I assume this was during Spring. 4) I’ve only heard Mexican food in PT is not that great but maybe you found a good spot. 👍🏻 5) Looks like your hubby is warming up to casual appearances. 😛 Thanks again for your videos. We hope to visit soon.

      Thanks for watching, and thanks for your comment. To answer your questions:
      (1) yes, a day trip is practical using public transport. For us, we could take a bus from central Lisbon, which would take about 50 minutes. We opted for Uber instead, which took about 20 mins at a cost of 12€.
      (2) Not sure, as we were trying to squeeze this getaway in before beach season got into full swing. As we were leaving, Tryp hotel was in the process of setting up its loungers and umbrellas for the season, and it looked like a pretty big setup.
      (3) This was the beginning of May, right before the official beach season started.
      (4) We’ve tried three Mexican restaurants here in Portugal, and would return to two of them, including this one. We weren’t looking for Mexican food, but just happened upon it and it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.
      (5) For someone who talks a lot, he sure clams up when the camera’s rolling 😂
      Hope this helps!

    Hi! Love your videos! Costa da Caparica is not Lisbon, it's in Almada area🙂

    • @whatsupwkirsten
      @whatsupwkirsten  2 роки тому

      Hi Maria, thanks for watching! This is the great debate for sure. Yes, it's Almada, but some people insist it's Lisbon because it's in the greater Lisbon metropolitan area (even thought it's the Setúbal District). As a newcomer here, when I think of Lisbon, I think of Lisbon city. But I've had people tell me they live in Lisbon, when they live in Almada, Trafaria, Barreiro 😀

    Kirsten Costa da Caparica isnt Lisboa ! Costa da Caparica is a City located in the municipality of Almada along the western coast of the district of Setúbal

      @whatsupwkirsten  2 роки тому

      Hi Antonio, thanks for watching, and thanks for your comment. I was waiting for someone to chime in on this. Both the municipality of Almada and district of Setúbal are located within the Àrea de Metropolitana de Lisboa. Before I moved here, I thought Lisboa meant the city of Lisboa. After being here awhile, I've had people tell me they live in Lisboa, but live in Trafaria. Guess it depends on who you ask?
