  • We have a nice talk with Juul Gijsbers. He is the product trainer for McIntosh. We ask him the most obvious question we can: Why do you like McIntosh so Much? The answer is not that simple though... :-)

After a 45 year wait, I am about to take delivery of my first McIntosh amp. Tears in my eyes, former greens keeper, about to become.. a McIntosh owner

Took years of working up to McIntosh products in our system. Our system goals were : Powerful. Accurate. Technology that can cover audio from vinyl, to tape, to digital, to high resolution spatial audio , and finally Aesthetically gorgeous. McIntosh has not disappointed. Phenomenonal equipment. Thanks for the vid.

I had a MR 71 Tuner for more than 25 years and sold it for more than I paid for it. From my experience McIntosh is an investment. The dividends are the great sound and style.

McIntosh C49 is prettier than my Parasound 2100 preamp, but I couldn't hear a difference so I returned it. Yet I can feel the $6k difference.

I have a pair of MC501 monos. My only concern is that, as I get older, at some point I won't be able to manage the 501s physically (91.5 lbs each), and may have to downsize. Oh well . . .

Bruno Putzeys and Jan-Peter changed the world of amplifiers. Also some other companies: Pascal, Bang Olufsen, Power Soft, ICE; at the time, a few years ago, the first company to discuss with Bruno, now it has come to the D world, Bryston. Yes, it's better to look at a glass of wine by candlelight, but LED light is where 98% of people do.
New one from Purifi is a very good amplifier.
Sound system is what you like, go to your ear choice.

Question for Mac owners....I have a store credit with an audio store that is a McIntosh dealer.
I want to put it towards a new McIntosh analog tube preamplifier.
It will be my first McIntosh preamplifier.
Did anyone hear the McIntosh C8 and the C22 mkV. preamplifiers?
I would like this to be
    my end game preamplifier.
    IYO, how did they compare?
I have discerning ears and I do a lot of focused listening to Hi-Rez music files.
Any info you can provide is surely appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Di-

Mcintosh in my country is silly prices. There’s a premium on top of a premium. Basically double the U.S. prices. I’m also a bit sceptical on the reliability and how they deal with issues. I’ve heard some not so great stories on that. I’m going to listen to the Rotel Michi series 2 in a few months. No one on UA-cam has yet reviewed the new series 2 Michi amps.

My issue is with their warranty. Industry wide on electronics the warranty is 5 years. For McIntosh it is 3 years (HOME AUDIO ELECTRONIC PRODUCTS
3 YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY). To me a warranty represents the confidence a manufacturer has in their products. On the other end of the spectrum is Bryston (again not speaking about sound) that offers a 20 year warranty; I have read stories where they worked on pieces outside the warranty no charge. My local dealer says their 3 year warranty is a deal breaker for many customers who have the money but recognize the issue. Hey wealthy people don’t want to feel ripped off either. Imagine spending 10k, 20k Euros and after 36 months you are on the hook for shipping, parts and labor? Not to confuse the issue but on Magnepan loudspeakers the warranty on the ribbon part is 1 year; same argument there. I too am waiting to see reviews of the Michi X-5 Series 2. German Stereoplay already ranked the original very highly and the M8 mono blocs are almost at the very top; adding insult to injury the person who answers technical questions for Mac via email is consistently arrogant. If this is how you are before a sale, what can I expect should a service issue arise in the future; enough said. Here is a pdf of the most recent Rang und Namen where you will find the X-5, M8 and P-5 (preamplifier) as they compare to everything else. The first number is strictly sound the second number is value for money relative to sound www.connect.de/filedownload/documents/118676701/RANG-NAMEN-stereoplay-2023-09.pdf

@@mahasidha9 It’s a shame there’s so far no UA-cam reviews on the series 2. Maybe they won’t be reviewing it because the series 1 has already been reviewed, but there seems to be enough internal upgrades to warrant a new review. I think the X3 is all I need. Happy to get the X5 but I don’t think I need the extra power. I will audition the X3 with Sonus Faber Sonneto 5. That’s an $18,000 combination here. If I went with Mcintosh that would barely get me the amp.

It seems that the most recent class d amplifiers have made those $$$$ 100lb mac amps kinda of an expensive novelty.🤔🤫🙄 The fact that McIntosh charges their customers thousands of dollars and brags about it for essentially an empty box is all you really need to know.🤔🤫🤭🤯 Doesn't take away from such a great audio channel like alpha audio!😛

    • @TheAlphaAudio
      @TheAlphaAudio  10 місяців тому +1

Thanks for the compliment. Appreciate it. Though... I don't think Class D is comparable with high quality class A or AB...yet... But it will get there. The empty box.... well... that's a thing... He is right by saying that people don't have to buy it.
