  • There's more to drawing comics than simply having pretty drawings. Comics is far more complicated than most people may think. I wanted to see if it would be possible to put together a comic using Ai as an assistant.
Why? Mostly out of curiosity. Ai CANNOT draw you a comic, it can only assist in making one. I breakdown why, in this video.
I don't go too in depth into visual storytelling. I show you how I use my understanding of visual storytelling to guide the Ai into getting me what I want.

This is a very interesting video. I was looking for somebody that have drawing skill to give a shot and tell how AI can actually help with their work. Often time, when it is an artist, they bash saying this is not real art or on the opposite spectrum, it a tech enthusiast that create one arguably beautiful image, but with mistake like lighting pointing in the wrong direction. That or it didn't really had any clear objective about what the art was supposed to represent, so anything beautiful would just be fine.
Now I look at this, and it feel like it didn't really save you that much time, you had to redo a lot of the work or go back to the slot machine that is Stable Diffusion, so in essence, it only help you with the restaurant and that kind of it. Control is definitely one of the key issue with AI art, like having your character looking at the right direction, and consistency to get the same girl in different pose.
Anyway, that is my impression, but did you find it useful ? Or do you feel that you would of save time by just doing everything yourself ?

Yeah, I've found tech people do exactly what you say. Purposeless images, so anything that results is fine. And most artists are scared of the boogie man of Ai for some stupid reason. If they'd only use it, they'd find it's kinda jank.
Thanks for the question. It would have been faster to do it all myself, and i would have had absolute control. The final product would have also been far more satisfying since I did it myself and I could say, "look what I did." As it stands, I'd never be able show this to a potential employer as "my work." However, the best thing about Stable Diffusion (SD) was that it gave me a final colored image to work off of. Coloring is far more time consuming for me than drawing and I don't enjoy it. I'd rather the computer do most of the work and I could go in and correct it.
And yes, surprisingly SD can actually color your art for you, but again, it's roll of the dice coloring, and the final product is a bit jank.

@@LuisEscobar Thanks for the answer. Yeah, so far the actual use for these tool seem limited for the artist, from the tech side and legal side too.
Legally speaking, you cannot copyright art that is generated by AI, it goes to public domain by default. So using it to create your brand or your main character is not good, because anybody could take it as their own.
Feels like the only thing you can do is use it for inspiration or help guide a client. I hired an artist once and she used Pinterest to help me figure out what my character should look like, so I can see this as a much better replacement.
That and maybe create props that you don't care owning the copyright (like minor element like a trash can). This would be a replacement to thing like stock photos.
That being said, it is more useful for those who don't draw.

@@LuisEscobar One more thing, let say we create a tool that is in photoshop that help you while you draw, would you like that ?
Let say you start to draw a nose and the AI see it and follow up with suggestion you can refine by continuing to draw, would you like it ? In other word, helping you draw the part that cause you problem. Could also be applied to coloring too.
There is an 3D animation tool call Cascadeur that seem to be doing just that for 3D animator, and the reception seem much better than AI generated content.

@@gabrielforget6595 Yes, you're right about the copyright thing, IF there's no human input. Everything I produced, except maybe the first background, if copyrighted to me since the images where based on my hand drawn sketches. And even after that, I composited and redrew stuff.
Also, you can have the Ai program pull out a bunch of public domain images, take them, cut them out digitally, repaint, manipulate and "photobash" them into something new, which would then make the final image your copyrighted image.
Like I did in this video: ua-cam.com/video/7aC3ZaQ9X2g/v-deo.html

@@gabrielforget6595 Unless I'm going to draw something super realistic, I'd rather not have any program finish my drawing or painting for me. People draw things differently. It's like handwriting. If photoshop finished your work for you and everyone uses the same function, everyone's art would look the same.
Might be helpful in an hand drawn animation production where everyone's final work is SUPPOSED to look the same, but otherwise, all the work loses individuality. It's already happening with Ai images. They all have the same look and feel. You can spot an Ai image a mile away...if you're familiar with the type of images the programs tend to output.
Sometimes, I use an Ai image as reference, but my final drawing looks very different from the Ai image. I have very specific things I want my images to have that are unique to me and how I do things.
