That crazy cause they remade the first game as well so that's kind of ironic when he said he'd do it over again... That's crazy but cool at the same time
Joel, Abby and Ellie all are similar in the way that they were bloody and don't trust people but then change to be more peaceful. Joel grew older and by that experience he have changed (that's why he helped abby). Abby was bloody and merciless, but what changed her is the journey with the kid (lev) that story changed her and made her merciful. Ellie also started to be bloody when Joel died and started killing blindly but after she lost Jessie, dina, and almost Tommy she knew that she is on the wrong path. Ellie didn't kill abby at the end because she saw lev which symbolizes (victims of their problems, the loss that that path causes, humanity). Pls inform if you knew that cuz many people don't.
They did see each other off camera, because they would have had to have the conversation of movie night - we know this because of Dina and Ellies conversation about it on the start of their journey! Edit: I was inorrect! Wishful thinking steered me wrong. I realize Ellie was going to ask Joel in the morning; but like I say in my following comments - it's amazing that we even get to have these open conversations.🙂
This scene hurts so much more when you realize Ellie was planning on watching a movie with him the next day-the day he was killed. Dina was going to sneak out with their friends but Ellie wanted to stay at home and watch a movie with him. Just. Ouch.
@Yodha Pratama during the patrol, right before they get to the stores, Ellie and Dina stopped to loot the houses. Dina asked Ellie what she had planned for the night after their patrol. it wasn’t in any cutscenes. :)
Yes! That was this whole scene was about. Joel knew he fucked up, and so did Ellie, but she was still open to forgive him and have the relationship they both wanted, but sadly the next day Joel was killed. And he was killed by his bad decisions. It hurts, but that was what it was. Joel fucked up Big time and payed for it.
Mason More woa, having a bad day, incel? At least let’s have a discussion first where you point out your incoherent conservative point of view of why the game sucked for you, which funnily is the same for a bunch of unhappy dudes, i’ll tell you why your point of view is completely biased and THEN you tell me to shut up, as a good incel. Let’s not lose our internet etiquette here, baby, keep it together. 👍🏻
@@adrianabalbuena2682 he still didn't deserve to die in such a barbaric way, If he was to die it would have been nice if it was a least a worthy death and not as violent as it was.
Beth Dunbar not everybody dies as heroes in this world, like Sam and Henry. You cant just make Joel a hero, because he wasnt, he was a selfish and ignorant person and payed for what he did. Its not even that violent he was tortured, they could have made it worse.
I liked when the ending credits were rolling and I was like "whew, finally done crying" then Neil hit me with the Joel and Ellie duet on 'Wayfaring Stranger' and I don't think I can ever cry like that again
@@AndreaLopez-qg4ciright. the first game, i cried right when the credits were rolling. not because it was sad. just because it was such a beautiful piece of art and it was over. i couldnt believe it was over and the game just was a big part of me. anyways, i sobbed all throughtout the credits in the first. In the second, i only cried throughout the game, in the 1st, i didnt cry at all through the game, only at the end. But in the 2nd, when i heard joel, i teared up as well
Hell no on was and could be a saint in this post apocalyptic world Everyone killed to survive Why does joel have to have a " was no saint" adjective added just to him!?
Its especially heartbreaking when you know they were so close to start healing their relationship, and then abby and friends rip it away, making Ellie crying and pleading for Joel to get up that much more heartbreaking.
Dude, where is this quote from?! I couldn't find it anywhere on Google, but it sounds way too familiar. Did you make that up and I've just dreamt that I've heard it before? It's really pretty.
That's not his character, though. Joel never "wanted" anything for Ellie other than happiness and a life in peace, but unfortunately, the reason for that was because HE wanted that for himself, and he needed Ellie there with him for it. Ellie wanted to die there. Joel didn't want her to die there. Not because he wanted a meaningful life for her. Because he couldn't lose another daughter. That's the entire point of this scene is that Ellie will try to forgive and understand that part of him, the part that refused to let her have any choice in the matter.
There was an interview with Ashley, Troy, and Neil after the game came out and they went over the behind the scenes process of Joel's death scene. Troy's recount of the process was incredibly profound to me: he said that by the end of it a lot of the crew were gathered around him making sure he was okay, but if there was anyone he was the most concerned about, it was Ashely. He knew what happened to her with her father. Those reactions she had in that scene were basically her tapping into that memory of losing her father.
Zaid Hood - Ellie was looking for closure with Joel’s death and a way to forgive Joel, she thought she needed to kill Abby to do that but instead she gave Abby mercy and forgiveness in order to also forgive Joel.
At the end though Ellie seems resolved. She's accepted the fact that Joel is dead and that she can't bring him back, that by going on the anger fueled rampage Ellie continued to lose the connection she had with Joel.
I think it would be harder for her, but there would nothing that she could do then. Joel is already dying when Ellie comes in. Also it was very hard for Ellie to let Abby live in the end, imagine how deep into this wish for revenge Abby is after training for it, searching for him and having mental issues for four years. What she sid to Joel isn't something she would usually do and during the story it becomes clear, that she is not as tough as she seems and even capable of forgiving someone, even if this person killed all her friends and the love of her life.
@@nils5436 It was pretty clear Abby wasn't this savage barbarian who's just comically evil. She spared both Tommy and Ellie despite knowing damn well they'll come back to hunt her for revenge. Also spared both of them AGAIN, refusing to kill them infront of Lev and just leaving them alone despite both her friends being killed by Ellie.
that’s the price of continuing a masterpiece like The Last of Us which could have stayed done at one, but you know what I think? I think a 3rd part is in order and will right this wrong so good that we’ll see Ellie and Joel again in one more flash back memory and then end it off with Ellie finding a way to get the cure out of her.
@@abdullahnasirkhan7071 wont exactly matter. I doubt theyd do it anyway what with abby's dad being the last doctor who could have done something according to lore and all.
Francisconick13 I don’t cry either, I got admittedly a bit teary eyed the first time I saw this, only because Troy’s and Ashley’s performance here is just so well done. You can hear the cracking in their voices like they wanna just start crying their eyes out and everything they both absolutely nailed it. Super relatable too I mean who hasn’t had to forgive someone they truly loved but also did an awful thing to you or someone else?
"I don't know if I can forgive you for that, but I would like to try" is probably what went through Ellie's head at the moment she let Abby out of the water.
Exactly. I held off on playing this game until recently because of the hate I felt for Abby killing Joel. Turns out I’m much more forgiving than I expected.
@@courtneyw3904 exactly omg. Like i feel like everyone who hated the game entirely just never understood just HOW MUCH it all meant to Ellie and they only cared about joel.
@@courtneyw3904 totally agree, it's a complex story, a masterpiece to me. It shows that that things are not only black and white. A totally mix of feelings, but absolutely loved it
I think where this scene hit me the hardest was when he said: “If somehow the lord gave me a second chance at that moment I would do it all over again” It hits hard because at first you think he says he would change everything but then you realize he’s saying he wouldn’t. And I think naughty dog definitely wrote that line to be interpreted that way which is so much more meaningful.
I mean, I love they did that, it shows his love for her, he acknowledged its selfish but he loves her to the point he doesn't care about that, and if they wrote it different it would've been hollow
And the fact that he dies for those decisions the very next day. He had absolutely no regrets. He 1000% would have traded his life for Ellie's then and he definitely has no qualms about it now. Even after she treated him like shit for years.
Jonathan Mercado What makes that even more sad is that Ellie said she was “thinking about inviting Joel over” for a movie. He died not knowing she wanted to spend time with him.
I doubt she ends up alone. She probably went to Jackson after leaving the house, she might have already been there after the final fight. Hoping for a short dlc to let us know :)
Ellie is so focused on having her life matter, but it didn't even matter to the doctors and Marline. They could have waited til she was conscious to inform her that the cure will come at the expense of her life and let her decide, but what the doctor did was so unethical and unprofessional. Im sure Joel would have understood if she made that decision herself rather than someone else making it for her.
Анастасия Юркова I know, but they have no right to assume that she is ready to die. And Joel in a way is not wrong in not allowing them to treat his surrogate daughter like she is a product.
@@platinoir also the vaccine would have killed her for no reason since a vaccine only works before the fungus hits you. So the world would have been the same and the fungus would keep growing and spreading. Joel made the right decision. Also ellie clams her life would have mattered but it would kill her for no reason really, her life that she clams don't matter mattered to someone else.. Joel.. Her dad as i say. She never thought of that? Prolly at the end she did.
I’m honestly just so thankful that Ellie talked to him one more time before he was killed, and that their relationship was headed in the direction of hopefully improving. I know that makes a HUGE difference. I’m also extremely proud of Ellie for getting past her desire for revenge and letting Abby go.
The only part of the game that I don’t like was the fight between Abby and Ellie at the end. Not sure what I’d suggest on an alternative for the ending as it is the last interactive action for the player. But personally a cutscene of them hashing out their differences would of been what I preferred
@@ac_-sn4td oh for sure. Sadly I don’t know if that would have been possible with how much damage had been done to/by them both in the whole situation, but it would have been really nice
@ac_2120 Ikr I think tlou2 is pretty bold for trying to do what it does but the execution was piss poor ellie letting abby go was cinematic equivalent of john wick killing hundreds of random thugs just to spare the guy who killed his dog at the end.
The only scene in this game that made me cry. I started bawling after he said "I'd do it all again". It felt like Ellie wasn't cutting him any slack. The Fireflies didn't give her a chance either, and they were fine with that. I don't even wanna fully get into my opinions on this game in a comment, but Joel was a great fuckin dad, man. As soon as Ellie became a mom, she should've completely understood why Joel did what he did, because we all know she'd do the same thing for her son.
I think she did come to understand, that's what I got from her expression after remembering that last convo with Joel. Mind you she said she couldn't forgive him in the past before everything started.
She wanted to because she understood. She disagreed. But she knew where he was coming from. Hence why she decided to try to forgive at the end...and because Abby took away her chance at closure, and with that, revenge for Ellie- was her way of forgiving joel. In a sense
Some people started crying when Ellie left and we saw Joel crying, other people were crying while they were talking, I literally started crying when Joel appeared and with a broken voice I said "Joel...", every time I see this scene it breaks my heart.
I smiled and started crying right off the bat when he appeared, then Ellie came in and i sobbed. The longer the scene was going on for, the more i cried.
Bruh this game made me cry multiple times on separate occasions. I know it got a lot of backlash, but I absolutely loved the writing in it and the darker theme Neil chased after. Even though it was incredibly depressing.

To that last guy, the reason Ellie is fixated upon that one action of Joel's in the hospital is not because she has a hero complex, but rather because she has a massive case of survivor's guilt. Look at it from her perspective: 1) She was supposed to die with Riley, but she didn't. She found no reason why it was her and not Riley. And even worse, she blames herself for Riley's death because Riley made it out, but came back for her. 2) She thinks that if Tess hadn't taken that job, she wouldn't have died. 3) She also feels that travelling with her got Henry and Sam killed. (By this point, she has already resigned it to herself that being with her means death for everyone, except Joel) 4) Ultimately, she reasoned to herself that she was kept alive for one reason only - the cure. And mentally she had already made the decision that that's how she's going to make sense of her life, even if she were to die.
Thank you for breaking it down, I’m not sure most people understand how deep her guilt can feel, it’s easy to dismiss if you don’t give it much thought. I think the game did a really good job of conveying how she makes sense of everything and that it can feel quite complicated
@@afraidsari I think it is partly caused by people internally assuming the first game ended with a perfect happy ending with roses and sunshine. As how it usually is with games that do not have a sequel already planned out. They thought everyone was happy at the end of the first and continued as such. But such an ending was a farce, upheld only on the thin legs of Joel's lie. The cracks started to show almost immediately after Ellie started to question Joel's lie (the birthday arc) and everything came back even fiercer when she realized she was the potential cure, and the price was merely her life which she never felt she deserved anyways.
@@willfanofmanyii3751 EXACTLY. Joel is not a good guy, nor is he a bad guy. Hamming onto one person who's just, wishing something else happened, is so fucking hypocritical, because I bet you that there were SO many other things he wish didn't happen, but did.
• The world took everything from Joel (When Sarah died) And Joel took everything from them (when she try to save Ellie) • And the world took him (When Joel Died)
The thing about Joel’s death even so many years later is he was like a father figure to many people whether you have a real dad in your life or not. Joel was willing to do anything for Ellie as if she were his own. Watching him die was painful, it was literally like losing a father
Yeah, it reminded me of my dad. My dad isn't dead, and he isn't really anything like Joel, but the feeling of loss was so astronomical that I felt like I'd lost my actual dad. Had to go and see him and everything.
I watched the whole game from Jacksepticeye and damn... He's a professional. He admired every single detail that's been put into this game. He followed the story really well. I didn't want to watch PewDiePie play even though I love him because: He is more on the comedy side rather than the gameplay itself. Séan managed to be still hilarious and interesting to watch.
@Jojo Momo he didn't complained throughout entire fucking game . In Ellie's part he said Dina - Ellie relationship was a little bit toxic and of course he was mad ( or you can say sad ) about the death of Joel ( ı mean come on we waited 7 years for see him and Ellie again . I agree his points . You may not . That's totally okay ). While playing Abby he complained about playing as Abby half of the game and didn't get into the character because of what she did . Like i said i m totally okay if you like the game but sooo many people didn't like it too . Haters attack the people who loved the game , lovers attack the people who hated the game . That's not what i m here for . All i say is everybody can have their opinion but we shouldn't offend the other people who thinks otherwise
@Jojo Momo i think he cared too much about Ellie and Joel like most of us . Seeing the death of Joel in first hours disappointed him so much that he didn't enjoy the rest of the game . I can agree about that
No youre wrong. She didnt have a chance to forgive Joel, thats why she said "Id like to try". Thats part of why she became so revengeful because of the fact that Abby took that chance away from her
I had to take a week off work. I don't think I've ever been so broken after experiencing any kind of story/media. Back together now, but I've never had an experience like that ever. So glad I avoided all the politics and drama/spoilers and just locked myself away for a weekend to play it.
What breaks my heart is when you first wake up as Ellie, she asks Jesse if Joel’s awake and Jesse tells her no he and Tommy left early because there were infected spotted.
@@EK0eight Yeah, she went from having the best day of her life to the worst day of her life in just a few hours. At least she is better in the epilogue but I feel really bad for her going through all that shit.
when ellie said my life would of mattered she thought she was worthless now because she didn’t die,but then when joel said he would do it again without a single thought she realized how much she mattered to him
Then Ellie wakes up in the surgery room and it was all a nightmare created by being sedated and her fear about ending up alone, losing Joel, etc.. and Abby was a girl that she saw while she was in the hospital, then they take a few samples of her arm and x rays and made a vaccine, then she wakes up and comes back to Jackson along Joel xD
Ikr, and the voice acting feels so REALISTIC, obviously it is but the extremely long pauses between sentences, the emotions they pour out in their words..it just hits different than any other game like this
The thing that made me so emotional during this game is if you’ve ever had someone do something terrible to you and you were trying to forgive them but they passed away before you could forgive them, it is some of the frustrating and demoralizing shit that can happen and to have someone take that away from you sucks. That’s why this game resonated with me so well.
"You wanna be a hero so bad. But u dont have the heart of one..." holy moly. That was so deep, it's like naughty dog created it... damn, right in the feels bro.
Love Berlin but I disagree. Ellie never shies away from danger to save anyone. She sees her having a link/key to make an advancement for humanity in this never ending battle with 20+ years of deadly infections as an opportunity. A freakin good arse chance for humanity and willing to sacrifice herself for it. That maybe her being born without her parents, that people came and go from her life or when her first love died is the reason for her to have such life is because she holds the cure within her. This is why her life needs to matter to her. Joel lied that there were others with the same "gift" and it meant NOTHING. Joel has his reasons but that does not take away that what he did was selfish. Hope was there. A cure and a top brain surgeon but Joel took that away. So what kind of heart should Ellie hold? Joel didn't hold her heart or any other's into consideration but his own.
@nightowlpiont1485 she for damns sure doesn't have the heart of a hero, she doesn't go out of her way to help others she goes out of her way to get revenge, she is not a hero nor villain just the product of a viscous cycle of hatred
The look in Joel's eyes when he says, "I'd do it all over again." It just reaffirmed what Ellie said to him in the original when they're in the bedroom and she's telling him not to abandon her to Tommy. Joel needed her just as much she needed him.
I think Iberleezy kinda missed Ellie’s point in “my life would’ve fucking mattered”...her best friend and first love was bitten WITH her and Ellie had to watch her slowly turn into an infected and then, it doesn’t show it of course, but we can assume Ellie had to be the one to kill Riley too. Ellie has spent every day since that moment “waiting for her turn” to die as she likes to put it. So to be able to die for a cause that could save other people from that fate would’ve been important to her. She was already supposed to die when she was bitten anyway. I think she probably feels it’s the least she could do with her life, and THAT is why she’s pissed at Joel for taking that option away.
I think his point is more so why is she still mad at Joel I think he understands about why she was mad but like he said "you didn't die " so it's like it didn't happen so what why are you still mad just live your life now instead of holding on to something you can't change
tall midget I mean Ellie spent that whole time wishing she could help other people become immune...so she could do something good, even if it meant sacrificing herself (because again, she was supposed to die anyway). And then on top of that she was lied to about it for YEARS after. She knows Joel did it because he loves her...but you can’t just expect her to get over something like that. Something that her choice should’ve been taken into consideration for. Joel betrayed her trust and I think it’s pretty easy to understand how she feels in that regard. Also take into consideration she was only like 17 when she stopped talking to Joel and she’s still only 19 when she starts to forgive him. She’s just a kid.
Bailee H but the doctors didn’t care about her well being, that it was going to kill her and they didn’t care because there could be the slightest CHANCE at a cure, which in of itself is moot in factual circumstance due to there being no such thing as a cure to a fungal disease, especially at the time of 2013 or 2014 technology. Just based off of my knowledge to make a slightly informed guess. Ellie should’ve realized that what he did was gave her a chance to grow old in a small community surrounded by people who love her and know her. With friends and protection. He failed to protect his biological daughter in the beginning, so he was given a second chance and he wasn’t going to let that happen again to the girl he can call his daughter figure.
@@chasemikesell9259 but you're disregarding the major point in that Ellie has survivor's guilt. She had no issue with dying if it meant there could be a cure. She felt like she caused the death of others and it weighed on her heavily. The lie Joel told her really cut deep because she wasn't one of many immune, yet the only one. It just reopens the wound that healed on all those old emotions/problems she had kind of made peace with.
@@JakeJupiter I don't think Ellie thinks she was responsible for the deaths i think she just wanted to matter if you continue watching berleezy's he goes more in depth but at this moment he was just thinking out loud.
Waterworks got going for me when Joel says "I'd do it all over again." Parental love is on one hand selfish but on the other hand incredibly selfless. His bravery and authenticity at speaking his truth resonates to my core. It's something special to see these reactions.
When Ellie said that "her life would have mattered" and Joel replied that if he would get a 2nd chance he would do it all over again I halfway expected him to reply with "because your life matteres to me."
Yeah it seemed out of character for him not to say "It does. It matters to Tommy, it matters to Jesse and dina... and it matters to me. More than you'll ever know." Because before he met her it's implied he was depressed (near suicidal ) and she gave him a reason to live. She gave him hope
I think it was heavily implied. He's a man who's not really the best with expressing himself so I think him saying it like that and replying to Ellie after she said she would like to try to forgive Joel with "I'd like that" is very appropriate.

People give shit about Ellie going in revenge despite being a bitch to Joel for like 2 years but this scene makes you realise that she literally rebuilt the relationship with Joel the night right before it is ended permanently in front of her by Abbey.
If only she knew how hard Joel trying to get through to the hospital section just to save her from getting her life wasted, she won't be saying those mean things
She knew, she went through the same shit when it came to save him. People remember what they want to remember. These 2 saved each other in so many ways.
But doesn't Ellie have every right to be angry at Joel? He chose to lie to her face multiple times even when he knew how much her immunity meant to her. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Joel and even though his choice was selfish, it was perfectly understandable. It's why this game is so beautiful. It's morally grey, everyone has their own motives and perspective. I understand Ellie's turmoil and anger while still relating to Joel's choice.
She did know, it took till the end of the game the end of the story for her to understand why Joel did what he did. She had everything Joel had at one point and lost it all for equally selfish reasons if not EVEN MORE selfish reasons because she didn’t even end up killing Abby in the end. But believe that Ellie is well aware of how poor her actions and decisions were you can see it on her face at the end of the game she’s officially as broken as Joel was before he found her. She lost everything, including Joel.
I replied it for the plat and found myself crying even more - the Take on Me scene was sweet the first time, but had so much more meaning once you knew how events turned out for everyone. But yeah, I was essentially emotionally stunned for some time.
Abby quite literally became what Joel was to her. One thing that upset me the entire time was it seemed Abby never grasped that the absolute whole reason why Ellie killed her friends and wanted to kill her was because Abby 'killed her father'. Exactly mirrored Abbys situation in the beginning.
One of the unsaid things this game gets so right is you'll never know what your last interaction with someone you love will be. We'd all like to think we'll always end every meaningful relationship with gratitude for each other but it's just not reality unfortunately. And that's such a hard part of death

This game series was amazing it brought you a realistic view on just how random and untelling life can be ,its not always good vibes. you suffer and learn to live with the suffering but those small moments where you feel that warmth from seeing elie's and joel's relationship develop and them just trying to live there life as normally as they can in their situation and trying to have fun in it. Is something we can all relate to maybe not as bad as they have it, but we all suffer in someway. both games were great it was like watching your life come up and watching it crash in ways you could never understand. The fact that you dont feel right in your gut and heart with the ending prove how deep you were in and tragedy hit you and now you have to learn to live with that pain how elie did/does.this game teaches you so much that your lost in emotion.
Disagree. I felt that was such a thing I’ve been told so many times before that ending it, I felt nothing with a hint of “I just wasted my time.” I felt nothing at the end of the game, and forgot I played it the next day. I wasn’t lost in emotion. I found myself no longer caring.
J H nope, wanted to like it, but gameplay got boring and believable character development went out the window. One giant meh for me. You might want to consider not attempting to discredit the first thing you hear that isn’t like you.
Every single time that guitar plays, I bawl so hard I can't even see the reactions. What makes this scene hit so hard is that we see, in the end, that Ellie was actually finally ready to move on. They were going to watch a movie together. They had plans. They had hope
Dude, this was the first and so far, the only game to ever make me cry. I think what gets me every time is the fact that Ellie was willing to work to forgive Joel, and she was gonna do that the same day he died but Abby killed him before she could even try. And I will say, Joel messed up, he did, but I won't go as far as to say he's the worst because he already lost so much in his life and "saving" Ellie was the one chance, the one time he would have someone in his life who he didn't lose. Yes, it was at a major cost and I wish Joel didn't kill the doctor because you could've done that moment a billion different ways, but killing the doctor was what he chose to do in that moment; it might be unforgivable, but many people can't say they wouldn't have done the same thing and the doctor can't say he wouldn't have the same thing if it was Abby. We make sacrifices for the ones we love and sometimes it comes at a cost, but being selfish for once in your life and keeping that person in your life for a lot longer than what was supposed to happen is a human thing to do. Sorry for the long paragraph, I had to get this out.
Very well said. A lot of people have trouble coming to terms with the fact that what Joel did wasn't heroic. It was right to him, but there were some heavy consequences to his decisions, and in life we have to pay for those consequences.
@@pepeesq.7966 The fact he did it for a selfish cause is what isn't heroic. However, thinking of it realistically, these doctors were "heroically" willing to kill an innocent girl they know nothing personal about, to possibly make some kind of "cure". That strain of cordyceps protecting Ellie, likely wouldn't have saved anyone else because it's basically hardwired to her alone. If they meant to extract the strain and put it in someone else, why not have Ellie just bite people and spread it by those means, huh? Of course, I wouldn't expect a teenager with no access to fungal research to understand that (Ellie). 99.9% of the outcome would have been Ellie dying for nothing and Marlene putting a bullet between that doctor's eyes for being full of shit, then Abby going after Marlene, assuming she didn't kill her as well. That's what makes Abby's dad the "only one" who can reverse engineer a vaccine. Because he's freaking delusional and thinks he could have. That alone is what screws the game's credibility in the first part, in terms of "Joel screwed everyone". Realistically, he saved a girl from being slaughtered by an idiot.
I think if you get to the point where you would say 'I'd like to try to forgive you', you are basically saying you have, but it's taking some time. I feel like that's the redeeming moment of the whole game. The only light in the miserable universe, but worth it. If she straight out said 'I forgive you', it wouldn't have fit with her character. Ellie isn't cheesy, so that was as close to full forgiveness as you could get from her.
I have a feeling that when a lot of players saw Joel out playing his guitar, they thought it was like a credits thing where he's in the afterlife lol could you imagine. Would actually be kinda beautiful

This was the flashback that made her not kill Abbey. She just couldn't forget what she did to Joel like how she couldn't forget what Joel did to her but she ended up trying to forgive. I loved how this game turned out. I didn't like Abbey at the start but I slowly got around to her.
I finally completed the game after so long and can honestly agree because at first I was like she killed Joel now she must die, but once you play her and see that she has a change of heart, she really does become a good character
@Jojo Momo not true at all , yes Joel murdered her father , but hunting them down across the state ? That's too much , when I play a game i try to think from all angles , I'm just pushed towards Ellie more , it has nothing to do with that
Headless Creator ooh. Ima do it today. And I love eef heh. I’m def not surprised that you and some other comments have recommended watching his playthrough
This game ultimates shows you how grudges are never a good thing and people deserve second chances. Revenge may be something you get, but the cost of that can sometimes be heart breaking and life changing. Ellie not only lost her girlfriend, her child but she also lost her only connection with Joel, the guitar. That is the message the game is trying to put forth.
yea they really had a well written story in the first game to "revenge is bad," nah they couldve done something so much better and the death of joel could''ve been done so much better than what we got. like this scene was perfect i got no complaints about this.
@@MrErenH realistic doesn’t mean it’s gonna be satisfying for the person playing it. I don’t think that’s a compelling argument when talking about a story
*This comment. Exactly.* I love love love LOVE how Joel did not regret his decision to save Ellie, at ALL. How he honestly, and genuinely confesses that next to her will always get me.
this game perfectly shows how real human beings would react in a situation like this. If you had lost your child, and essentially found a new relationship with someone who filled that hole and became a parental figure for them, like Joel to Ellie, you would do anything to keep that person in your life so that you would not feel that loss again. On the other hand, if your parent had been murdered for doing their job or trying to do what they believe is 'right', you would make it your mission to get justice for what happened. People who are shitting on Abby saying that she's an awful person, to be honest, everyone is awful, no one is good or bad, right or wrong, they are just human, sorry bout it. thank you for coming to my ted talk
Yesss thank you... Honestly people seem like children covering their ears whenever either the game or someone else shows them that Abby is also a person in this world, who Joel and Ellie affect with their actions, it's not a feel good story where only the characters you like matter...
I bawled so hard in this scene. When I saw Joel holding the same mug you see in his house after he dies and realized that this was the night before, I absolutely lost it.
I'm so glad naughty dog didn't pander to us in this scene and give us the Joel & Ellie hug we all wanted. They stuck to their guns and gave us the realistic emotional pacing that i love naughty dog for. Keep doing you ND!!! :)
Crazy how soo many people have such distinct opinions about this game, it is indeed an emotional roller coaster in which not everyone bought into that complex story, I personally think it is a masterpiece, this experience changed me just as much as the first one did and it is sad for me that there is people who do not feel the same way.
I understand if people think this game is good, however i simply can't see the masterpiece that a lot of people make it out to be. I think tlou2 has a lot of narrative issues that hold the game back drastically. Like why kill off Joel purely because of shock factor and "subverting expectations" and not in a more meaningful way? They try to make us sympathise with Abby but imo they failed, and i couldn't care less about her. I understand her more, but i still hate her. Why is the pacing so off? Why are the characters all over the damn place? Why did they try to force a "revenge is bad" message in the end with no build up or little to no reason. Ellie abandons everything, only to realize that "revenge bad", and she decides to spare Abby. Fckn what? Ellie gets no justice in this game, and there dosen't seem to be a good reason as to why. While i can understand people liking this game, i just can't see this game as a masterpiece. Imo it just dosen't compare to the first, and it failed to follow up what that game laid out.
Pommfritzon I think ending it the way they did is a much more powerful ending message than Ellie just killing her. I get people disliking how the story went but the gameplay was fantastic. I think everyone can agree it’s a fun game to play.
Sure, maybe in the real world. Within the world of the Last of Us, it's entirely possible. Ellie's immune because of a mutated strain of fungus which protects her from the bad strain. They wanted to extract the mutant strain and presumably infect and inoculate others with it. In theory, that would make them immune like Ellie.
HiIeric117 true true, it is a fictional world so who knows, right? But that just brings up the question about how can they replicate that specific strain that Ellie has?
The sound Joel is playing is hard to learn for me personally but its a really good song and the song name helplessly hoping goes along with this scene to me.

He knew what happened to her with her father. Those reactions she had in that scene were basically her tapping into that memory of losing her father.

To that last guy, the reason Ellie is fixated upon that one action of Joel's in the hospital is not because she has a hero complex, but rather because she has a massive case of survivor's guilt.
Look at it from her perspective:
1) She was supposed to die with Riley, but she didn't.
(By this point, she has already resigned it to herself that being with her means death for everyone, except Joel)
4) Ultimately, she reasoned to herself that she was kept alive for one reason only - the cure.

Of course, he didn't want history to repeat itself

My favorite part where he kills an dog and say
*I'M SORRY I'M SORRY* Like 5 times

@Jojo Momo criticizing a product you don't like is a negative thing for you huh
I can agree about that
Ellie decided to forgive Joel but this was their last conversation. Still gets me everytime! 😭😭😭
Kerwin Q. Arucan very true!
Yeah but the game was dogshit

Imagine she didn't decide to forgive Joel and he died. That would be even more sad
No youre wrong. She didnt have a chance to forgive Joel, thats why she said "Id like to try". Thats part of why she became so revengeful because of the fact that Abby took that chance away from her

What breaks my heart is when you first wake up as Ellie, she asks Jesse if Joel’s awake and Jesse tells her no he and Tommy left early because there were infected spotted.
What is even worse is that Ellie was planning to invite Joel to watch a movie the same day😔
@@EK0eight Yeah, she went from having the best day of her life to the worst day of her life in just a few hours. At least she is better in the epilogue but I feel really bad for her going through all that shit.

when ellie said my life would of mattered she thought she was worthless now because she didn’t die,but then when joel said he would do it again without a single thought she realized how much she mattered to him
...then Ellie wakes up late while Joel and Tommy are already on patrol.
what a dream
And later on, Ellie wears boots, kisses Tina and prepares to ask Joel to a movie.
Ellie: *LETS NOT TALK ABOUT SHE HULK AND JOEL BECOMING A GOLF BALL*
Then Ellie wakes up in the surgery room and it was all a nightmare created by being sedated and her fear about ending up alone, losing Joel, etc.. and Abby was a girl that she saw while she was in the hospital, then they take a few samples of her arm and x rays and made a vaccine, then she wakes up and comes back to Jackson along Joel xD

The acting from the actors in this game is just superb
They know how to use the "roller coaster"
Iberleezy
Ashley puts SO much emotion into her words. I actually do cry every time
If somehow in the moment the lord had given me such a chance, I would have walked in the screen and hugged you, Joel.

The look in Joel's eyes when he says, "I'd do it all over again." It just reaffirmed what Ellie said to him in the original when they're in the bedroom and she's telling him not to abandon her to Tommy.

More than you'll ever know."
Because before he met her it's implied he was depressed (near suicidal ) and she gave him a reason to live. She gave him hope
I think it was heavily implied. He's a man who's not really the best with expressing himself so I think him saying it like that and replying to Ellie after she said she would like to try to forgive Joel with "I'd like that" is very appropriate.
Ethan’s reaction is hands down the best one out of all of them. I start bawling like a baby every time to see it

People give shit about Ellie going in revenge despite being a bitch to Joel for like 2 years but this scene makes you realise that she literally rebuilt the relationship with Joel the night right before it is ended permanently in front of her by Abbey.
This was never a story about revenge, it was a story about forgiveness. Forgiving other and learning to forgive yourself.
If only she knew how hard Joel trying to get through to the hospital section just to save her from getting her life wasted, she won't be saying those mean things
Lol. That's what 99.99% of teenagers do. That's a phase of life.
Vijay Vishwa she’s 19
She did know, it took till the end of the game the end of the story for her to understand why Joel did what he did. She had everything Joel had at one point and lost it all for equally selfish reasons if not EVEN MORE selfish reasons because she didn’t even end up killing Abby in the end. But believe that Ellie is well aware of how poor her actions and decisions were you can see it on her face at the end of the game she’s officially as broken as Joel was before he found her. She lost everything, including Joel.

Abby quite literally became what Joel was to her. One thing that upset me the entire time was it seemed Abby never grasped that the absolute whole reason why Ellie killed her friends and wanted to kill her was because Abby 'killed her father'. Exactly mirrored Abbys situation in the beginning.

Leyla Vera Nice comment, thank you! I’m feeling same as you!
@@captainshowman5786 Thank God I'm not alone

I love love love LOVE how Joel did not regret his decision to save Ellie, at ALL.

Pommfritzon that’s because there wasn’t a way to outdo the first one. It’s a spin off of a zombie apocalypse movie.

I wonder how Ellie would feel if she found out that you can’t create vaccines for fungal infections... 😬
She'll probably kill herself
Sure, maybe in the real world. Within the world of the Last of Us, it's entirely possible. Ellie's immune because of a mutated strain of fungus which protects her from the bad strain. They wanted to extract the mutant strain and presumably infect and inoculate others with it. In theory, that would make them immune like Ellie.
