- We've heard the story about Rio de Janeiro - but that only scratches the surface. Why is it called the "Intercontinental" Championship? What does that even mean?

Great video. Always wondered what Europeans thought of the "European title" being won, and defended in the U.S. usually by a non-european wrestler
As an american, I've always found it really tacky and undereserving when an american or Canadian born guy would win the uk title. Never have I found a north American uk champion legitimate
I just never understood it. Considering it became a staple of Sunday Night Heat - I never understood why they didn't just have a TV Championship.
Even if it were being won by Europeans - the name "Intercontinental" makes even less sense when you have a Championship representing another Continent.
@@PomeloRetro every time an American won the European title I always imagined it as if an American was being named the King of England. In the back of my mind I always thought yes, yes but have the English or the Europeans agreed to this arrangement. But like you said since there was no internet or social media back in the day they could do whatever they wanted, even crown one man king of all continents.
@@theslouchedsloth9514 I always had the same reaction when the super bowl champ was crowned the "world champion"
The classic IC title belt would look great on any ranger from PR or Super Sentai as a sort of belt buckle.
I love how Ted did his signature laugh.
That Ted Clip can't of been cheap
everybody's got a price
This is a good break down video! What wwe should do is kill the brand split, have 1 world championship, a Secondary championship, lower mid card belt and tag team titles
The I-C tourney was in Rio de Janeiro. I was there and even tho I was a small child I got to meet Patterson privately. It was a very touching moment. 😉😆
This was a nice little history video for the Intercontinental belt.
Drinking game: Take a shot every time the word "championship" is said.
One day I'll be man enough to do it
I did a big grin when Ted did his line at the end, he came across as so cheeky just throwing it in at the end! 😁
That's really interesting, keep up the banger vids man
Interesting history on the Great IC Title and the ending of this video was awesome.
Very well done video. I’m always interested in Belt facts & History
Misread it at first as Why is it called the " Incontinence Championship"😝
Classic Dusty finish for a phantom match *chefs kiss*
It use to named the Intercontinental heavy weight champion .
So that there U.S. title was not from "back in the WCW days" the U.S. title history goes way back in to the NWA days Ric Flair was the U.S. champion in the 70s before Ted Turners WCW was a thing. Yes I am a wrestling mark and I'm aware of it thanks guy
In wwe raw and smackdown are considered their universe . So both universe has their top champ main events guys secondary Champs mid carders on the way up or down usually the work horses.
Your inner spiritual reminder to mention NXT & NXT UK on Paper per views $$$ Events and all wrestlers should learn MMA
good video
DONT FORGET ABOUT THE ROOKIES....
Basically it just all sucks now after September 11th 2001
I thought it means it represents the continents of north and south america, having been established in brazil.
They are unifying the tag titles. And Roman is the unified universal heavyweight champ. They’re listening haha
Hopefully it's not just temporary
@@GameTime-yj6qv most likely it will be. Champion should just appear on both Raw and Smackdown.
@@Jay-lz6uj I agree. Never liked the idea of two sets of titles
@@GameTime-yj6qv I never liked brand split either.
Intercontinental title is rank higher than US and European Championship, Also the television Championship. The ranks are in this order. All low and mid title belts that merge to become Unified will retired or be dropped for the Intercontinental title belt. The Intercontinental title has more prestige than all other low and mid title belts. Anyone who becomes or has Intercontinental title has the right to challenge or be ranked 1 or 2 contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. To have the World Heavyweight, Intercontinental Championship and any other mid or other World title (Tag) will be know as a Triple Crown champion.
The IC titles origin is less offensive than what AEW have done with their All Atlantic and changing the name in such a short time. Honestly, they had the TNT title which is fine, classic NWA tv title is cool, but what the eff is “All Atlantic”? No less confusing the intercontinental
Well it's worse now. It's called the "International Championship".
@@PomeloRetro oh FFS! What is wrong with that lot?
@@PomeloRetroi liked All Atlantic as something different
Why is it called wwe
Why do they call them the nexus, the shield, evolution, dx, rated Rko
Why is his name Vince
Why is it called wrestling
Why is it called wrestlmania
Joking aside, I have done a video on why it's called WWE.
What, anything that is WWE is stupid.
