The interim House and Senate chambers are absolutely gorgeous. As much as I love the Centre Block, part of me almost wishes that the interim chambers were the permanent ones. I hope the British, as they plan the rehab of the Palace of Westminster, look at the incredible job Canada has planned and executed the project.
Did tours of both the House of Commons and Senate interim chambers in Oct 23. Very impressed by both. But did wonder about the pricetag on them, the renovations and putting it all back in the centre Block!
To anyone complaining, this HAD to be done, the old HoC is crumbling. Would you rather this or a large piece of wood falling on the head of a random MP and killing them? Common damn sense should tell you the answer

I suppose for a temporary space it is fine. I should hope the Centre Block isn't tainted with a glass roof or any ridiculous contemporary design. This sort of looks like a glass tumour latching onto the walls of a preexisting beautiful building.
No, they replaced an empty courtyard with this design. I actually think it looks quite nice, and it certainly isn't another piece of modernist trash. It's very contextual, and it celebrated Canada with the colours and decorations.
Most construction projects on heritage buildings require permits that ensures proper drill bits, materials etc are used to prevent damage and comprising the integrity of the building. I think there’s hefty fines if the incorrect tools are used as well. But, don’t quote me on that
I agree! It uses the colours and symbols of the original chamber, and imo is a rare piece of beautiful contemporary architecture. And the renovation of the heritage buildings is just outstanding.
A few years ago I got to visit the Parliament with a very popular MP.(Conservative) I got to eat anything off the menu in the executive dining room, then a tour in the house of commons. I thought it was much smaller in person then on TV. The rugs were not too clean I asked if I could go to Rona Ambrose's desk and chair. I sat down in her seat, putting my bottom where she placed hers every day. A real great experience. I cant say what else happened. Its a national secret!! What a waste that glass roof is. Who the hell needs that here in wintery Ottawa. Waste waste waste waste waste!!!! The carpet not been the proper green is a real con job !!! i m sure nobody would notice if it wasnt the exact green as the pukey old carpet was.!!!
You're not too bright, are you? The thing with the glass roof, the _temporary_ House of Commons, is there only until the Centre Block is completely _restored_ . Every pillar, every gargoyle, every fresco is being _restored_ . You should pay attention before making such idiotic statements.

I would love to visit this brand new house of commons, it looks awesome

so beautiful
Hello, I love to see stuff about innovations

You mean the CBC.

May that rotting wood fall on a Bloc Quebecois member or Justin Trudeau.
Rick Enman something had to be done, not exactly THIS
The beautiful neo-gothic architecture tainted by that glass monstrosity
The West Block is Victorian High Gothic.
And yet they have no idea what to do with 24 sussex drive

Did they destroy heritage structure to build that?

It's a shame that it's temporary. :(
Why temporary?
That is such an impressive HoC that it should just be made permanent. It's beautiful, much nicer than the center block HoC
Not even close, the real deal is much much more beautiful and historic
@@FullOfMalarky I wouldn't put history and Canada in the same sentence.

The Centre Block (spelled correctly, and capitalised)

Suspect that shows up.
Defund the CTV!
Am I doing this right?
Don't bother with propaganda terms, and don't believe what "Mad Max" tells you. It's all a bunch of bs
Looks like a great place to invite the United Nations oh say once a month.
A beautiful gothic architecture converted to an ugly modern space with glass and steel. This makes me sad. Modern architecture is lazy.
Awful. No sense of history or tradition at all. Then again we are talking about Canada 😂

don't like it. Didn't see anything wrong with the old one. This one is too modern and plain.
