  • What do you eat when you’re out on the water?
For a long time, I used to make a sandwich the night before my trip and bring that with me.
But eventually, I got sick of making them and I wanted something hot (plus, you can only eat PB&J's so many times per week...).
    I recently stumbled across Omeals.
These are MREs (meals ready to eat) that heat up without fire or electricity so I decided to give them a try.
As it turns out, they’re actually pretty good.
Check out this video to see what each meal comes with, how to prepare it, and what it looks like.
Also, we’re not sponsored by Omeals, I just wanted to share this with you because I’ve been eating and enjoying them myself.
    Have you tried these out?
Do you have any other suggestions for meals on the water?
Let me know in the comments below.

My take-a-way is to pour out the water B4 opening the foil pouch.
Why not leave the heater in the pouch after pouring the water out, tearing open the food pouch then insert it back into the foil pouch to retain all the heat. I do like that a spoon is provided & the meal can be consumed right out of the heated food pouch.
Yes, the portions are small in terms of calories.
    Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada

In an emergency situation is the water (if potable water was used) safe to drink?

What water? If it's a freshwater source, it's always best to boil or filter it due to risk of giardia.

@@Saltstrong Sorry my question wasn't more concise. The water that was poured out of the prep bag. After food bag was heated you dumped the water. I was curious if it was still potable after being used to trigger the chemical reaction for heating the food.

Is it filling? They only have like 200 calories each, which is basically a small bag of chips

They're basically an MRE main course. Great because you can bring your own better versions of all the other snacks in an MRE. Stuff like decent bread and cliff bars instead of pop tarts and nasty crackers.

seems like you don't get much for what you pay for. at least with a MRE you get more, yea there empty calories but at least you get more for about the same price, pay 30 for a 24hr more and it makes it cheaper. seems a cool way to heat up the meal just don't seem like the most bang for your buck
