I miss Prince. He was my neighbor, I lived walking distance from his studio. Any time you saw the purple lights on at his studio, that was a signal that the public could come attend an ad hoc show. This happened on a monthly and sometimes weekly/daily basis. He used to order pancakes for all the guests.

I grew up in north Minneapolis back in the day. I was lucky enough to be around P and a lot of the musicians at the time. Andre Cymone was a regular at the house where I lived. The guys I lived with were called Gentleman of Style, a few of them went on to play in The Time, Mazerati, and with Andre when he went solo. I consider myself to be very lucky to have seen him from young to what he became. I remember skipping school one time to go to a sound check at First Avenue and out comes Prince. He said hello to me cause he kind of knew who I was from our neighbourhood, he told me to get my butt to school😂😂😂 I’ve got a few stories from then that I rarely share.

I just went though his Paisley Park book of his guitars w notes about each and how they came to him and what they meant. That man... ... ... he just defies every notion. When I heard his "The Cross" off a cassette tape smush comp I went OKAY!?? and it led me to understand him a little bit more. When I saw him in Miami, plugged in during a "can you make it rain harder?" moment... shook. ... sincerely a man I would have love to have shadowed in the personal space. MISS miss miss this man. And his guitar was himself... cannot convince me otherwise.
I was actually the manager at Webster Hall at that time. I remember the show well it was a record release party. It was actually a very tiny invited crowd of backup dancers, tour people, and such, the rest were all record execs like Ron Perry, Tommy Mottola, and artists like Stevie Wonder and many others. The stage was brought out and made smaller for the intimate show which is why he was so playful with the crowd of friends. The music was great that night, One of a thousand amazing shows over my tenure there that I will never forget.

It was by special invite only and my girlfriend at the time won tickets on a radio contest. I had been a big Prince fan since Controversy, so I was stoked. It was a very memorable time. lol
Prince never gets as much clout for his guitar skills as he deserves. Guitar players know how good he was, but the general public usually doesn't. They just think of him as a singer/songwriter. Great video!!!
My favorite Prince story is he was going to do half time Super Bowl show but it was pouring rain. They called him to ask what he wanted to do and he said, “Can you make it rain harder?”
how the hell the twins danced on those 8 inch heels is an agreement between heaven and hell.. but Prince... that man OWNED every raindrop...NOBODY compares. His own aisle, genre... miss that man. Grateful for what Paisley Park gave us.
He’s probably the best all around musician, lyricist, vocalist, producer, entertainer, enigma to ever live. Keys, strings, percussion, etc. He could do it all better than just about anyone! He will always be on my Mount Rushmore of iconic entertainers! ❤

Agree on Prince. 100% musical genius. I'd also say Sly Stone is right up there. Incredible singer, songwriter, arranger, and producer, blending soul, funk, gospel, rock, and psychedelia. Plus a multi-talented instrumentalist - whether playing keys (organ, piano, synth), guitar, bass, vocoder, drums, harmonica, you name it.

I’ve seen so many performers and bands in concert during my life, and one of the very few regrets I have on that front is I never saw Prince live and I’m old enough that I definitely had opportunities. He is one of the rarest talents because he is so multifaceted. What a treasure.
I DID see Prince. Once only, dammit. 2002 or so. Yes, unreal. MY big regret is I never saw Zeppelin, my fav group. Maybe you did. In '77 when they came around for what would be their last NA tour, I was a casual fan, just discovering rock in 8th grade. Three years later, I was a full-on ZEPHEAD, aching to see them on their next tour. Which of course never came.
Back on 2018, I visited the “My Name is Prince” exhibition in Amsterdam, which featured hundreds of items from the archives at Paisley Park. Among those were several of Prince’s instruments, including the purple acoustic he played in this video. As a VIP ticket holder, I was allowed to pick up the guitar (with special gloves on) and hold it. Strumming it was strictly forbidden, but at least I got to sit with it a moment
At 10:58 Prince throws in a Bb add 9 chord just for a little variety. I like to think of it as a nod to one of his guitar influences in Jimi Hendrix who was notorious for using the add9. The guy knew every blues trick in the book, what a player

Prince is a very under rated guitarist h is very talented guitarist who knows how to play guitar and other Instruments such a great talent. Unfortunately he didn’t get help before he passed away unfortunately. I have always enjoyed this rhythm to this song on guitar

Prince is in my top 5 guitarists! He was incredible!!! To me it's not always what he played, it's what he COULD'VE played. I don't think there's anything beyond his talent reach. If he wanted to shred, he could. If he wanted to play blues, he could. He understood it all.

I am the non guitar player that is just trying to learn SOMETHING. I was reminded that the familiar can seem strange. Real world shit. Seems like you have been there, done that, but forgot somehow that it is not that simple. Probably projecting but cannot discount how much your lessons reach beyond the guitarless followers. I've listened to Prince since I was a teenager, loved his tune and his lyrics. Probably one of the most talented musicians ever. But I'm glad he grew up and changed though, glad he found our Father and Savior. It made him a better man, though far from perfect. He still has some demons he dealt with as do we all. But he died faithful to Jehovah and I'm proud to call him a brother. Hope we meet on a paradise earth.

9:18 you're not off your game man. Whenever we're listening to an absolute master, we tend to assume the things they're doing must be way more complicated than they sound. The genius of Prince's playing a lot of times is that he's not blowing you away with technicality. He's blowing you away with feel, time, groove, and absolute swagger. It's the same way an amazing drummer can sit down at a kit and just rock the fuck out of a basic 4/4 beat and it sounds different from every drummer you've ever heard play that same beat.
Yep, sometimes one's mind shits the bed, and you you're left having a duh moment. However, sometimes you just gotta play rhythm... thanks for this and the interesting version, friggin love it.
My Theory- Those bright acoustic transients from the pick and piezos throw in a middleman when transcribing to a midrange electric. In that moment the ear adapts, brainpower gets split. I’d love test this theory…who’s in?
Now it’s been awhile since I seen this video. But Mike Scott used to play along with Prince this part of the concert when did his acoustic guitar set. Not to say Prince couldn’t do it, of course he could. But Mike was in the wings playing along.

Prince made a game of simplicity. His technique wavered from the really intricate to the most simple of playing. The trick was in the delivery.

I am the non guitar player that is just trying to learn SOMETHING. I was reminded that the familiar can seem strange. Real world shit. Seems like you have been there, done that, but forgot somehow that it is not that simple. Probably projecting but cannot discount how much your lessons reach beyond the guitarless followers. Thanks for this stretch with Prince. I am stretching my own self.
I've listened to Prince since I was a teenager, loved his tune and his lyrics. Probably one of the most talented musicians ever. But I'm glad he grew up and changed though, glad he found our Father and Savior. It made him a better man, though far from perfect. He still has some demons he dealt with as do we all. But he died faithful to Jehovah and I'm proud to call him a brother. Hope we meet on a paradise earth.

9:18 you're not off your game man. Whenever we're listening to an absolute master, we tend to assume the things they're doing must be way more complicated than they sound. The genius of Prince's playing a lot of times is that he's not blowing you away with technicality. He's blowing you away with feel, time, groove, and absolute swagger. It's the same way an amazing drummer can sit down at a kit and just rock the fuck out of a basic 4/4 beat and it sounds different from every drummer you've ever heard play that same beat.
Yep, sometimes one's mind shits the bed, and you you're left having a duh moment. However, sometimes you just gotta play rhythm... thanks for this and the interesting version, friggin love it.
My Theory- Those bright acoustic transients from the pick and piezos throw in a middleman when transcribing to a midrange electric.
In that moment the ear adapts, brainpower gets split. I’d love test this theory…who’s in?
Now it’s been awhile since I seen this video. But Mike Scott used to play along with Prince this part of the concert when did his acoustic guitar set. Not to say Prince couldn’t do it, of course he could. But Mike was in the wings playing along.
