@@nova8198 that doesn’t really take away from his character especially considering that some of his best moments came through his connection with Greninja. Big reason why Greninja got so popular in the first was literally because of Ash. Their bond and of course the fact that people that he would actually win the league. I personally wouldn’t put him in S tear either. He was cool and all but didn’t have the same amount of character growth like the others minus best wishes. That’s honestly fine considering the length of the series and the fact that he already matured and developed up until that point. I still wouldn’t put him down because of Greninja. That’s just a weird reason in my opinion. The same could be said about the other Ashes too. People remember the originals because of how clutch Charzard was and people adored Sinnoh because of Infernape. Besides when people think about Greninja, Ash-Greninja often comes to mind anyway. Greninja’s popularity was rather circumstantial than a cause of Ash’s lack in character. I’d put him in A tear and non in S.
I'd argue Sinnoh Ash is the peak of his character. I also thought Kalos Ash was really cool, he is a little different. But he's still brave, childish, creative, has a cool design, and I'd say the shonen aspects was a nice take on the character.
DP ash surely was peak, in retrospective, i dont like XY/Z ash isnt that great tho, it even lacks a core part that is its sass and rewatching, feels a bit cringe deu to the whiplash of trying to make it like from a shounen series in a child one and trying to make it serious

I was disappointed because XY Ash was my favorite. His design was sleek he had actual experience and in my opinion there was quite a bit of development. Also the kiss with Serena at the end of the series.
Ash from Sinnoh is so good that the writers kicked him out of the league through the anime version of a hacker with lvl 100 perfect IV legendaries (Tobias)...
Time for the long review of each main series ash that nobody asked for: - OS Ash: Had the best savage personality and portrayed ash’s growth as a trainer excellently. On the other hand, I only felt like this ash had meaningful development in the Orange islands. He was just a noob in Kanto, and a pretty solid trainer in Johto(7.5/10) - AG Ash: Definitely upgraded as a trainer from the original series and was actually shown to be working with his Pokémon to teach new moves and prepare for battle. Plus if you combine his Hoenn and Battle Frontier runs, this is one of the most experienced ash’s. He could be a jerk sometimes however, which could get pretty irritating even if it signified growth well(8.5/10) - DP Ash: In terms of development, ash was at his all time best here. Thanks to the Ash & Paul rivalry, ash’s ideals were challenged for the first time, therefore causing him to want to work harder to prove to Paul that he’s a good trainer. Plus him growing and learning alongside Dawn really shows how he’s humbled and views others more as equals now. Oh and let’s not forget he beat the undefeated Darkrai in the Sinnoh League(10/10: Best Ash) - BW Ash: Can we just skip this one(3/10: at least he had his occasional motivational ash moments) - XY Ash: By far the best Ash has been as a protagonist, as he not only carried the series with his battles, but was a motivation for others more than ever before. My only complaint is that he had very little character growth until Ash-Greninja entered the picture(9.5/10: Also stop acting like this ash has no personality) - SM Ash - IMO a better character on his own than XY Ash(fight me). You could see his growth as a character due to him actually learning to love the world around him and building closer bonds with the people, Pokémon and world around him, which is why ash’s league win is so important. Some out of character moments do rub me the wrong way(7/10) - JN Ash: So far it’s too early to judge, but by the end of the series, this might be my favorite Ash. He’s a culmination of every ash we’ve seen so far and has personality traits of both XY Ash and SM Ash. My only complaints are his poor team handling and his lack of a clear arc yet(9/10) Overall Ranking: 1. DP Ash 2. XY Ash 3. JN Ash 4. AG Ash 5. OS Ash 6. SM Ash(Still Like Him Though) 1000: BW Ash Actual BW Ash review: I wouldn’t mind the soft reset for his character if he actually got better, but he didn’t as he was still making rookie mistakes throughout the series. This ash goes through the least amount of character growth or development which is weird considering this is the soft reboot(3/10)
@@zed-up When I was talking about DP ash, I realized I had no problems with him. Sure he lost a lot, but that was only going to push him to become better(Paul). As much as I love XY ash, I can admit between his loss against Viola and the mastering of Ash-Greninja, he was a little too good for improvement(didn’t he go undefeated for the entire Kalos Quest season?). XY ash is definitely a close second but DP ash was just a better character in my eyes. So I agree that he’s the best. Also DP was the end of Ash’s true character arc and after that, he’d have several mini arcs per series so there’s another bonus
Ash greninja was almost equel in power with a Mega charizard X that fought a Mega Requaza Primal Groudon Primal Kyogre some E4 and 10 other Mega evolution trainers XY rivals were next lv compared to Sinnoh unless Hackerman 3000 x had the creation trio in his pocket

I think Sinnoh Ash is better than the others because he has a bigger personality. He’s basically an improvement of Hoenn, Johto and Kanto Ash. In Black and White, Ash’s personality is that he doesn’t think things through. In XY, his personality is that he loves Pokémon. In SM, he has the same personality from XY except he’s a little silly. In SS, he’s basically the same as he was in SM, except maybe a little more intelligent in battle?
I agree with Journeys Ash. Feels like a culminarion of Ash's experiences and would be S tier but there are notable things holding him back at the moment. Good list man.

The art style is really jarring but you'll get used to it, it improves each season, in the later seasons while there's still jokes, it touches on way darker tones, I also recommend you watch the Sub, the English Dub is horrible
I have always thought that not using ash as the Pokemon games player character is just because he has a stronger personality. the PC usually isn't really all that fleshed out as a main character, with rather limited personality traits, which allows the player to reflect more of themselves onto him, making the character feel more personal and relatable for the players.

I totally agree with this list except XY ash. Most people would put him ether on A tier or S tier for being a great trainer, being confident, and having a great team dispite having 2 dragon types and 3 flying types. I would put him probably in B tier since he does have some flaws. One is that he has a one Pokémon on his team that really should have been replaced, and that’s norvern. Norvern has a really bad losing streak and being the weakest of the team. Ash could have gotten a Gogoat but whatever. Other then some flaws X and Y Ash had he is a good trainer.
THat noivern hatched out of a eff during the series so that makes sense he does not have the expirience than the others had especially when the Kalos Trainers were Overpowerd as hell and clearly proven to be the strongest we have a dude with Mega charizard X that fought some crazy pokémon and trainer while also taking down 50% green snake
@@junmiamorecadenenzafu3694 I get what you mean but Ash gets Noibat in XYKQ (X and Y Kalos Quest) episode 28 which then evolves at XYZ episode 17, that's 34 episodes that it took for it to evolve so you think it would have alot of training, but no it didn't. Plus counting its only 5 battles that it had only against other trainers Pokemon in all the episodes it battled, it has 1 tie, 3 losses, and only 1 win. Noivern could have been better, it's just that he wasn't given enough screen time or training to make him a great dragon type for Ash's team.

I khow i might sound a lil crazy considering the series aint even over, but Journeys Ash in my opinion is the best so far. He has his badassness from x and y, and his normal silly carefree personality from sun and moor and the gens before. It feels like the perfect blend and natural growth as a character. He can get cocky like when he first faced Bea, and still makes mistakes. But thats what makes a charecter realistic.
I remember when XandY aired I knew there would be an outrage from Pokémon fans who probably thought this would be the end of Ash’s journey when the Pokémon league started. They probably thought he would win the Pokémon league and settle down with a girl who liked him at 10 years old. And when he lost and separated from team, the expected outrage and excuses came from everyone who believed them hiring the black and white writers was the reason he lost or that they backed down last second. When they clearly still needed the main series character to be the lead like always. Anyways XandY felt like the ultimate fan service season where they put all the obvious easy ideas forward for fans to get hyped up about just to return them to the status quo.
The original series ash should have been in s tear because he was perfect some people say he's a newbie but he really is.he got a lot of character development also he so exited and roast every one and a funny character thats what a 10 year old ash have.

I personally liked xy Ashe the most because he felt more like a hero main charicter then anyone else I mean jumping off a building for pikachu that was the coolest thing I’ve seen Ashe do and also he hade more emotion in that version of him then any other which I think worked best for him looking more like a teenager
I hate to be that guy, but what exactly sets one tier apart from another; character growth, trainer skills, attitude towards others, overall intelligence, episode content, Pokémon team composition, etc? Plus what sets one Ash apart from another - are they compared to the nearest other placements, or are they strictly placed in relation to specific criteria? Finally, when looking at Ash placements in the same tier, are they all on the same level, or is there a range within that tier?
At least you acknowledge ash earned half his badges because he earned earth technically. Btw journeys ash is so shonen it hurts at times because they do it to oppose goh and I hate it but I love this ash

I Choose You and Power of Us are my favs aside from XY. But then so much of Ash is tied to the quality of the series (which is why Hornen and Kalos are well liked). But I'm all for the new movie Ash more and more!

Kalos Ash doesn't deserve S tier. Greninja deserves. It is the only season that his Pokemon carries the story more than him.
@@nova8198 that doesn’t really take away from his character especially considering that some of his best moments came through his connection with Greninja. Big reason why Greninja got so popular in the first was literally because of Ash. Their bond and of course the fact that people that he would actually win the league.
I personally wouldn’t put him in S tear either. He was cool and all but didn’t have the same amount of character growth like the others minus best wishes. That’s honestly fine considering the length of the series and the fact that he already matured and developed up until that point. I still wouldn’t put him down because of Greninja. That’s just a weird reason in my opinion. The same could be said about the other Ashes too. People remember the originals because of how clutch Charzard was and people adored Sinnoh because of Infernape. Besides when people think about Greninja, Ash-Greninja often comes to mind anyway. Greninja’s popularity was rather circumstantial than a cause of Ash’s lack in character. I’d put him in A tear and non in S.

No Sinnoh Ash deserved S tier
I'd argue Sinnoh Ash is the peak of his character. I also thought Kalos Ash was really cool, he is a little different. But he's still brave, childish, creative, has a cool design, and I'd say the shonen aspects was a nice take on the character.

I was disappointed because XY Ash was my favorite. His design was sleek he had actual experience and in my opinion there was quite a bit of development. Also the kiss with Serena at the end of the series.

Time for the long review of each main series ash that nobody asked for:
- OS Ash: Had the best savage personality and portrayed ash’s growth as a trainer excellently. On the other hand, I only felt like this ash had meaningful development in the Orange islands. He was just a noob in Kanto, and a pretty solid trainer in Johto(7.5/10)
- AG Ash: Definitely upgraded as a trainer from the original series and was actually shown to be working with his Pokémon to teach new moves and prepare for battle. Plus if you combine his Hoenn and Battle Frontier runs, this is one of the most experienced ash’s. He could be a jerk sometimes however, which could get pretty irritating even if it signified growth well(8.5/10)
- DP Ash: In terms of development, ash was at his all time best here. Thanks to the Ash & Paul rivalry, ash’s ideals were challenged for the first time, therefore causing him to want to work harder to prove to Paul that he’s a good trainer. Plus him growing and learning alongside Dawn really shows how he’s humbled and views others more as equals now. Oh and let’s not forget he beat the undefeated Darkrai in the Sinnoh League(10/10: Best Ash)
- BW Ash: Can we just skip this one(3/10: at least he had his occasional motivational ash moments)
- XY Ash: By far the best Ash has been as a protagonist, as he not only carried the series with his battles, but was a motivation for others more than ever before. My only complaint is that he had very little character growth until Ash-Greninja entered the picture(9.5/10: Also stop acting like this ash has no personality)
- SM Ash - IMO a better character on his own than XY Ash(fight me). You could see his growth as a character due to him actually learning to love the world around him and building closer bonds with the people, Pokémon and world around him, which is why ash’s league win is so important. Some out of character moments do rub me the wrong way(7/10)
- JN Ash: So far it’s too early to judge, but by the end of the series, this might be my favorite Ash. He’s a culmination of every ash we’ve seen so far and has personality traits of both XY Ash and SM Ash. My only complaints are his poor team handling and his lack of a clear arc yet(9/10)

Actual BW Ash review: I wouldn’t mind the soft reset for his character if he actually got better, but he didn’t as he was still making rookie mistakes throughout the series. @@zed-up When I was talking about DP ash, I realized I had no problems with him. Sure he lost a lot, but that was only going to push him to become better(Paul). As much as I love XY ash, I can admit between his loss against Viola and the mastering of Ash-Greninja, he was a little too good for improvement(didn’t he go undefeated for the entire Kalos Quest season?). XY ash is definitely a close second but DP ash was just a better character in my eyes. So I agree that he’s the best.
Also DP was the end of Ash’s true character arc and after that, he’d have several mini arcs per series so there’s another bonus

I think Sinnoh Ash is better than the others because he has a bigger personality. He’s basically an improvement of Hoenn, Johto and Kanto Ash. In Black and White, Ash’s personality is that he doesn’t think things through. In XY, his personality is that he loves Pokémon. In SM, he has the same personality from XY except he’s a little silly. In SS, he’s basically the same as he was in SM, except maybe a little more intelligent in battle?
XY Ash is the best because he is the continuation of DP Ash.
SM Ash and JN Ash are just the continuation of BW Ash.

I have always thought that not using ash as the Pokemon games player character is just because he has a stronger personality. the PC usually isn't really all that fleshed out as a main character, with rather limited personality traits, which allows the player to reflect more of themselves onto him, making the character feel more personal and relatable for the players.

I totally agree with this list except XY ash. Most people would put him ether on A tier or S tier for being a great trainer, being confident, and having a great team dispite having 2 dragon types and 3 flying types. I would put him probably in B tier since he does have some flaws. One is that he has a one Pokémon on his team that really should have been replaced, and that’s norvern. Norvern has a really bad losing streak and being the weakest of the team. Ash could have gotten a Gogoat but whatever. Other then some flaws X and Y Ash had he is a good trainer.
THat noivern hatched out of a eff during the series so that makes sense he does not have the expirience than the others had especially when the Kalos Trainers were Overpowerd as hell and clearly proven to be the strongest we have a dude with Mega charizard X that fought some crazy pokémon and trainer while also taking down 50% green snake
@@junmiamorecadenenzafu3694 I get what you mean but Ash gets Noibat in XYKQ (X and Y Kalos Quest) episode 28 which then evolves at XYZ episode 17, that's 34 episodes that it took for it to evolve so you think it would have alot of training, but no it didn't. Plus counting its only 5 battles that it had only against other trainers Pokemon in all the episodes it battled, it has 1 tie, 3 losses, and only 1 win. Noivern could have been better, it's just that he wasn't given enough screen time or training to make him a great dragon type for Ash's team.

I khow i might sound a lil crazy considering the series aint even over, but Journeys Ash in my opinion is the best so far. He has his badassness from x and y, and his normal silly carefree personality from sun and moor and the gens before. It feels like the perfect blend and natural growth as a character. He can get cocky like when he first faced Bea, and still makes mistakes. But thats what makes a charecter realistic.

I remember when XandY aired I knew there would be an outrage from Pokémon fans who probably thought this would be the end of Ash’s journey when the Pokémon league started. They probably thought he would win the Pokémon league and settle down with a girl who liked him at 10 years old. And when he lost and separated from team, the expected outrage and excuses came from everyone who believed them hiring the black and white writers was the reason he lost or that they backed down last second. When they clearly still needed the main series character to be the lead like always. Anyways XandY felt like the ultimate fan service season where they put all the obvious easy ideas forward for fans to get hyped up about just to return them to the status quo.
This is more of a tier list than a ranking, but still, pretty nice

I personally liked xy Ashe the most because he felt more like a hero main charicter then anyone else I mean jumping off a building for pikachu that was the coolest thing I’ve seen Ashe do and also he hade more emotion in that version of him then any other which I think worked best for him looking more like a teenager
I hate to be that guy, but what exactly sets one tier apart from another; character growth, trainer skills, attitude towards others, overall intelligence, episode content, Pokémon team composition, etc? Plus what sets one Ash apart from another - are they compared to the nearest other placements, or are they strictly placed in relation to specific criteria? Finally, when looking at Ash placements in the same tier, are they all on the same level, or is there a range within that tier?
