  • It's been a year since my Jade plant almost died from rot. In this video I give an update on the two rooted branches and also the original stump. The original stump has grown well and is looking very healthy although the two cuttings suffered from leaf drop over winter due to cold temperatures and are now requiring their first prune to improve their shape.

      It's amazing how they can bounce back from the brink. It was really touch and go this time last year when the rot was still active.

    Great good to know ... my neighbors cut down some huge huge jade plants three to four feet tall ... they’ve been just shriveling up so I’m going to try and save them :-) I appreciate your channel Thank You

      You'll have a while to wait as the Jade plants will be dormant over the cold dark Scottish winter, its next update will probably be in spring. Did you see the very first video with the Jade plant? here is a link to it: ua-cam.com/video/0oAQ_z1624o/v-deo.html its one of my oldest videos.

    Great recovery on the stump. Looks cool. What do you feed the jade's with and how often?

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  3 роки тому +2

      I use a high nitrogen houseplant feed over spring and summer, then in late summer/early autumn I use tomato feed. I don't feed at all between November and March because its too dark here in Scotland for growth.

    Love your videos, especially the time lapse. Is it possible to include a photo here? I have one jade plant that every few days a leaf or two has a dark spot on it that is very mushy. I remove those leaves. The rest of the plant is very healthy. Any idea what it is and what I can do to save my plant?

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  Рік тому

      Unfortunately you can't post photos in UA-cam comments, but if you search for my Facebook page you can send photos through Facebook. It sounds like a fungal infection, keep removing any damaged leaves and keep the plant in a less humid location with better airflow. Also avoid getting any water on the stem or leaves.

      Yes, the vast majority are just normal Jade plants, but I also have sunset and Crassula minima which is a tiny leaved variety. My sunset variety is currently green, but I hope with some summer sun that it will colour up.

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  3 роки тому +2

      Its looking really good, although as Jade plants are not the fastest growing plants the difference is not huge. Its continuing to branch and the lower sections of stem are starting to thicken. As the plant will soon go into dormancy for winter it will probably be six months until the next update.

    Hello good evening...
    I m subscriber of your valuable channel can you tell me Crassula ovata branch propagation in water is possible now in india ( today 7th Feb) early spring season.
    Actually I purchased a couple of Crassula ovata (2plant) is 8 years old.Bit costly.
    And among them 2 are leggy , I didn't plant them yet (though bought 15days ago from nursery) , I also succulent soil mixture, perlite and pumice stone. So my query is whether the leggy one should be pruned before planting in new soil media or after planting . If after then how many days after repoting . And the pruned branches I want to propagate in water , whether it will be successful in now early spring season.
    Thank you
    Deb. Calcutta India.

    • @Gardeningat58N
      @Gardeningat58N  3 роки тому

      I've never tried rooting in water, Jade plants can easily rot if too wet so the best option is to root them in a free draining soil mixture, your succulent, perlite and pumice stone mix should work well for rooting the cuttings.
      In Calcutta the climate is warm enough that you can take cuttings at any time of year, so don't worry about when to take the cuttings.
      I would prune the leggy plant after repotting, when you prune a Jade it reduces the root growth for a few weeks so it will take longer to root into the new soil. I would wait a month until after repotting before pruning, ideally two.

    very informative however I would have preferred the trimming part be done in real time instead of speeding up the process. This is the part I needed to see how to trim my Jade plant but it went too fast I couldn't tell exactly where you cut it. otherwise good video.
