Did my first ACFT after switching from the Marines. Got a 537 and now have a great idea on what needs to be worked on. Thanks for all the tips, Gritty!
Hey Gritty, I just got my first 600 as well! We definitely have some different approaches, but I like to hear how other guys do things so I can optimize on my end. Good job Sir💪
@@GrittySoldier Sir, being 20 helps a alot :) but I definitely do not eat a peanut butter jelly fold over haha. I actually never eat anything before pt to stay light... There is a key point I would like to touch on, and this may help a lot of people get better scores. I study the charts with the max scores beforehand, so I know exactly what I need to do to get the 100 points for each event. For example, for my age group, only 57 hand release pushups are required for 100 points. So, I stop at 57; no reason to do anymore (make sure your grader is tracking, you don't want to stop at 57 trying to be cocky and then your grader only got you at 55). This method can be very tricky for things like the SDC. I find that it took practice but eventually I found the paces that worked for me to get the max with the least amount of effort. This relates to what you did for the deadlift, only doing the minimal amount of warming up before you go for 340. The ACFT is a very energy depleting test, and I counter this by only doing what is necessary and nothing more. All about optimizing for me.
Only things I don’t max are the pushups and the ball throw. Pushups are pretty straightforward to train so I’m sure I’ll get it on the next one, but I just totally fuck the ball throw every time, and I’m tall so I really have no excuse.
Just wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you for your service and thank you for wanting to help the next generation improve and be the best of themselves by not hesitating to share you years of knowledge and experience. RTLW
Have you ever trained any women to improve their ACFT? I would love to hear from more women on how they’ve improved. Especially if they weren’t super fit or fast runners in the beginning. Looking forward to the SPT video!
So awesome sir! I just rocked the Bataan Memorial March in White Sands Saturday and I can relate to the juiced feeling. I based a lot of my load outs and gear form your recommendations and cleared this event with gas in the tank.
I am going to go a DACFT next week. I currently have 497 but want to shoot for 540. Will definitely utilize some of your advice my worst event is the ball throw and run
This was such a great video. I'm trying to go air assault and need 80s overall. I need to improve my SDC and Deadlift. I think your tips will really help me break all 80s! Thanks!
I just discovered your channel and wanted to let you know, that you freaking rock! I'm starting in the German military in about two months and tho I am excited and in a pretty good shape, i'm just having some trouble with motivation sometimes. Watching your videos gets me pumped up again, so thank you sir.
Good day Sir, Just want to say THANK YOU! very much for making this video and sharing your knowledge. I just got my highest score today. I maxed the SDC and HRP for the first time because of your advice
I think it would be useful to cover the weeks before the week before. The last week and the day of test are important but a 600 means you were doing some good things prior to that.
That’s the biggest thing standing between me and a max as well, the SPT, which should be the easiest event as far as effort is concerned. I’ll get there…
I'm hoping to get close to maxing it, because honestly, i feel like i'm way more fit than people think, but as someone who weightlifted moer than cardio, i have more body fat, so i dont think anyone expects it of, therefore, when i fail my height and weight (but pass tape) it's really disappointing. So my goal is to get a 90 on everything, which vetos the heigh and weight completely, haha. I'm pretty close. But i'm not consistent is the problem. SPT is probably what I shouldn't take too lightly, cause it's easy to mess up on that...

Got out from the NG in 2020 and looking to go back into Reserves and have never taken ACFT. Pretty nervous about it as I just recently started getting back into shape. Really wish they kept the knee tuck instead of the damned plank. 😂
100 for pushups on the old test was somewhere in the range of 70 pushups with no releasing. The plank seems dumb. Just go back to the old max pushups in 2 minutes, it's a much better measure of fitness. However, there are a few improvements on this new testing. I like the sprint drag carry. But the standing power throw seems absolutely ridiculous.
Great tips! Just one differing, expert opinion: “running shoes” are a scam. We should be doing our running in flat (zero drop) shoes (and boots for rucking), too. Of course, there is a transition period because you’ll be using different muscles to run barefoot/minimalist shoe style. Just like you wouldn’t lift 400lbs your first day lifting, you’re not going to be able to run miles your first day running in zero drop shoes. 💪🏼🦶🏻
Not in the army but training in hopes of commissioning after graduating college next year. I can comfortably pass every event but I've got a ways to go before maxing, which I think I should be able to do if I'm hoping to commission and lead. I appreciate you sharing all your experience and advice, especially for free. Unrelated question, but do you think the APFT or the ACFT is a better assessment for physical fitness overall? Just wondering what your perspective, having done both, would be.
Hey brother I’m a former enlisted with honorable discharge NAVY. I’m 32 YO and I’m in good physical shape. How do I get a ranger contract, or the ability to try for green beret? Not sure how to go about it. Don’t want to end up as a 11X with no possibility to show how much I can give. Should I accept 11X with option 4?
Special forces to enlist with it you’ll need an Exception to policy you can get an option 40 contract which is ranger go to your local recruiting office or reply to me here and I’ll forward you my contact
Contracts you want are either the Option 40 (Ranger) or the 18X (Green Beret) They recommend a GT (General Technical) score of at least 107 for the 18X which is a number they get from your ASVAB Both selections, RASP and SFAS, are very physically demanding. Best of luck mate 🫡
@@JELOSHOW hey bro I’ve been talking to recruiters they keep saying option 40 is not available but the ones that can check that are the MEPS people. I’m not signing anything without option 40 if I go up there
@@gianpalacio5635 if a contract is not available, it just means they "ran out" of contracts that that recruiter office is alotted (was told this by my recruiter when i wanted the option 40), he said he'd have to call higher and request a contract and if approved, you're good, if not, go to another office. That or take an 11X with option 4 (airborne) and pick up the option 40 at basic training. The on-site SORB recruiters go to the companies all the time and ask if anyone is interested in upgrading their contracts. Lots of options available 👍🏼 Best of luck! 🫡
So close from maxing the ACFT. Always feel like I plateau. I max the deadlift, get a 90 on the ball throw, 98 on the HRP, max SDC, max plank, but a 97 on the run. What can I do? I’m way too close to not max it
