If you want to destroy hunting in Iowa as we know it today, allow crossbows, allow more outfitters, and bring in more non-residents. All these will greatly reduce the number of bucks making it to maturity. Just look at Illinois, they are living it now.
Crossbows are ridiculous in Ohio no limits. This year was the weapon with the most kills out of all weapons. Archery kills 96209 total 71801 of those used crossbow kills. Hardly anyone uses any other Bow here it's pathetic. I think they should have limitations for who can use them like they do in some states. Hope all goes well for you skip I'll never forget years ago Ohio was rated number 1 management state in Deer and Deer hunting magazine article. The very next year they changed so many things added extended gun seasons added new rifles ect ect. Why change something that's not broke.... hope the best for Iowa!
I've lived in OH my whole life and deer hunted for 22 seasons. Crossbow has always been legal in OH during general archery season it's not a recent phenomenon like other states who have switched in the last 5 years
@Thetrooper yes I'm aware they have always been legal in ohio but the numbers taken with a crossbow shows u people have put away other bows now use them. I've bowhunted 20+ years as well in ohio.
Technically The crossbow was first allowed in the Buckeye State in 1976, but only for use during the statewide black powder rifle season. A year later, it had its own short 10-day season. Demand by hunters and a growing deer herd prompted the DOW in 1984 to allow crossbows during the entire archery season.
@@richieriley8467 ok so it's been legal for 39 years. I'm assuming you're looking at statistics so go ahead and scroll down your little list there...the total number of deer killed in the state since the early 2000s is anywhere from 150k-250k+ average in the 190-200k range so what are you complaining about? What has changed? Because the harvest has not
@Thetrooper The whole point of his video is they are pushing In Iowa to allow crossbow where before limited to disabled and such. My point was here in Ohio this year the numbers show how many people use crossbows now when given the choice. What makes Iowa Iowa is the regs and things they have had for so many years now they are wanting to change it. The crossbow literally killed more deer than any other weapon In ohio this year . You can't look at the numbers and say bowhunting has not changed in ohio.
Skip - admire your action toward what you think is important. Many people never enter the fray. I've seen other interviews with you about all the farms (200+) you've bought and sold - making good $ in the process. Mostly from marketing and shaping farms for whitetail hunting. Well done. Saw opportunities and made it happen. I also wonder how many seasons you've harvested more than 1 mature Iowa buck. Seems like a 'not in my backyard' approach to all this. You can make $ off the Iowa whitetails, but others can't? Not how it works in America. Especially the family member non-resident tag proposal... Isn't it a good thing for families to continue hunting together? What a better way to continue the Iowa hunting tradition. And if you really want to compete with Ravin - hire your own Lobbyists, get together with MidWest Whitetails and others and scrap together the cash. 408 views on UA-cam won't do it.

Careful about the crossbows and length and timing of rifle season. Probably 80% of Michigan's problem.
