even the new ones. say what you will about the katana, but that sound, and those features for that money... wow i have not found a really bad SS-amp from roland. played a lot of them. the cube series is a bit weak (exept the fabulous micro cube), but still kind of ok. especially for that money. any beginner should stick with roland
@@auntjenifer7774 I think, you will like it only if you will play it only. I was with the same feeling about keyboards. After Yamaha Rolland was my enemy, but now I don't know, if I want to play Yamaha again. It's coming from the sky.:-) And of course depends on your instrument too.
I found a bolt-60 for $50 near me the other day. The guy I bought it from said these amps were bad, I just said yep and took it off his hands. This amp is fantastic, you just need to dial it in properly and they are really nice.
Hello, Can you share any video? I cannot find video with real stratocaster anywhere. I've read this amp in based on AB763 ciurcuit and does it reallly can compete with old Fender amps?
I bought a 60-watt model a few years ago for $239. I love it. I already had the Roland FS-2 footswitch. It had a Mercury Magnetics output transformer upgrade, and a Eminence 'square 'back' inside. I put new Tung-Sols in, and it's just great. Does everything I need. I DO wish it was a tad lighter, though.
Amazing sound! If you have the opportunity to try and f Record a Yamaha 212 solid state or a lab5 I would be very cool! See u and thank you for your vid's :)
Johan finds a cardboard box in the dumpsters, hooks it up to an old unwanted Jensen with no cabinet, just the speaker, makes it sound glorious. We watch and listen in awe. I'm done.
Yikes! In the early 80s I bought a second hand Bolt 30 and a second hand Gibson The Paul. I added an analogue delay and can honestly say with all the advances since then that my current sound is not any better or worse.
Hi, Johan! I am sorry, I wanted to be on the stream, but today I stacked with my students in the college. :-( I LOVE Rolland! Especially Jazz Strereo. They are PERFECT, but its hard to find. My guitar-technologist working with Rolland. This one in the video is GREATEST ONE! Have a nice weekend, see you! Zigfrid
Thank you for answering my questions!! It sounds great! I bought the 60 watt version new a very long time ago I hadn't been playing very long , I had a friend who was a mentor, and he laughed at my amp saying I should have bought a 100w X 12 combo like his carlsbro stingray so I sold it and spent years in solid state misery if only I'd known about marshallls! and tube screamers!
Johan, You made yet another amp sound fantastic !! Your playing keeps me tuned in through the whole video. I bet single coils would sound good with that Roland as well, just a guess.
That’s not unusual, a clean preamp with a slightly over driven tube final can add just that touch of slight grit warm distortion that’s so desirable in a ‘clean’ tone. Compressing the piss out of the 12AX7’s to run the finals clean is not the good way to run the amp. A lot of people really don’t use their master volume to best advantage, trying to keep their overall volume down.
Ships Ahoy Agreed! I have a Master Volume Twin and use it the same way. Only thing is when you turn the MV up a lot, you tend to wear your power tubes a bit
I hear... (And here I go again, might be crazy) but like Led Zeppelin tones??!! MSG like tones! Jimmy page or Johan would tear this amp up with riffage! I just may go hunting for this one! Thank you Johan** ✌🏻😌
Kind of a Mesa Mark style sound, nice and smooth. Hey Johan you might like this video with clips from a modded Plexi Lead: ua-cam.com/video/Vg4kqrW9NVU/v-deo.html
Hi Johan. It's a very nice and insane bang for the buck ( until now :D ). To me on the cleans sounds different from fenders, maybe more a like a Jazz Chorus. On the drive mode it could be any good tube amp. Please keep playin' those ambient clean chords, I loved it. Have a nice weekend: Cheers.
Saw a Bolt 100 at a pawn shop...wanted to see what the tones were like...its got a fender speaker in it...I wonder if that was stock...or somebody switched it out...
Got one -scored it from my rehearsal place, we had to tidy the place up, and noone claimed it. Brought it home - turns out the original speaker was dead. Got a nice Ruby replacement unit for it. Now I'm looking around for new set of tubes for it, the original ones are pretty beaten. Great amp. Will be perfect for jamming out on the porch.
Remember recording with one of these at Il Parco studio in Naples, Italy in 1982. Used this for a sort of early Boogie type gain while also plugged into a clean Fender Twin Reverb. These amps belonged to the studio and they also had a little Binson tube combo amp that sounded good straight in and cranked up that I used on an earlier track. Wish I remembered the Binson's model number. Wild to see this amp turn up these days on this channel.
Used to own one of those still regret selling it to this day The 30 is definitely the pick of the range and should have 7189A power tubes in it unless it's been modded at some stage Guess the prices of these are set to go through the roof now the secret is out ha ha.
Great stuff, could we see the settings in future vids? - if you change them during the shoot, or did you roll the vol down on the guitar to clean up? I know there was the shot at the start with everything at 12 O'clock, is that how you had it for the demo?
I have both the Bolt 60 and the Bolt 30. They are the same exact dimension and both use a 12" speaker. The 60 has 6L6s and the 30 has 7591s. The 6L6 is actually much cleaner. Both are great amps. I got the 30 because I though maybe the 60 was overkill and it's about 10 pounds heavier. The 60 is really the way to go. The headroom is worth it, especially if you need a loud clean sound and the headroom for leads. The 30 is has barely enough for leads (with a loud drummer) and is ok for clean picking parts, but may overdrive a little much, if that's a problem for you. If you're mainly playing rhythm in a band, the 30 is excellent. The 30 is also good as a stereo compliment to the 60. I got my 30 four years ago for $150. These amps are, to mind, not only the best amps (in my opinion), but also the best bang for the buck, and the very best for a pedal platform.
They are okay old school amp.. nothing to brag about. They are copy of americain circuit. Like many compagny Traynor.. supro.. galp.. a bunch of canadian compagny and probably that phenomenon happend everywhere simultaneously. One thing dought for roland is the build quality is there And if you find one of these it most likrly work great.
I too have a Bolt 30 and I agree, the clean channel is truly amazing. It has just sent a Blues Cube Stage packing, the newer Roland just didn't have the same clean sparkle and depth, in fact I have bought many amps over the years (some boutique) and none have had the amazing clean that the Bolt has, truly a jazz players dream! Dirt channel is just okay, but the clean channel takes pedals really well
I have a Roland Blues Cube BC60 from 96. All solidstate. Was very dependable and sounded just like this. Johan, you should demo every amp - new and old. You open up the dimension of possibilities with them. Cheers.
I mentioned this amp to you about 3 years back. Now you must give me free online lessons. You are most welcome. I bought mine in camden town, london, beat up, years back. sold it years years back. End of level baddie amp. Tough as a warships oak
Old roland amps are pure magic.

The price of a Roland Bolt is about to double thanks to Johan.

I remember these, they were decent amps, glad you found one and made this video. Appreciate all that you do!
Thanks Mark!

Sounds pretty impressive for a small amp. I've got an old Roland GA120 at home (pre-cursor to the JC120)
That’s not unusual, a clean preamp with a slightly over driven tube final can add just that touch of slight grit warm distortion that’s so desirable in a ‘clean’ tone. Very positively surprised! And that black Les Paul with cream pickups 😍 what brand / model are they? Certainly look like aged super distortion.
Thanks Joe, those are 1977 DiMarzio Super distortion/PAF indeed. Cheers
Enough for drum or gig this amp
I used to see these on reverb and people couldn't GIVE them away. I think thats about to change. Always loved everything Roland and Boss put out.

imam ga jos
Kind of harsh sound
Well done and thanks for sharing brother! Be Well Johan!
Cheers brother!
Very classic rock sound. Love it.
Thanks John!
Hi Johan I think the power tubes in this amp are the 7591 and not the 6V6. Thanks.
Thanks Henry
Do you use a Overdrive Pedal in Front of it? I used this Amp Long Agieren and the Overdrive Sound was completely different
Seriously fun riffage. Crank up some KISS! Thank you Johan - cheers!
Cheers Chris!
Nice playing
Saw a Bolt 100 at a pawn shop...wanted to see what the tones were like...its got a fender speaker in it...I wonder if that was stock...or somebody switched it out...
No cleans?
I've been watching your videos for a few years now. My conclusion: the tone is in the hands. Sounds great as always!
Cheers

Looks like there's a pedal making those dirty tones? My Roland Bolt 60 clean channel doesn't produce any dirty tones.
Had one and man that was something! Many thanks for bringing back memories! Love your channel btw! 😎👍
Thanks Don! I’m glad to hear that! Cheers!

Wow not even you could make it sound bad.
I have the 60 watts version. great sound
It reminds me of a Kustom hybrid that I used to play. Same sort of response and tone. A softened sort of solid state harshness.
As usual Johan, you have a great ear for tone!
Thanks Michael!
I still have mine with me! Great amp especially for its price!

do fuzz pedals sound good on this?
Vintage tube tones O' plenty, pal!
Thanks! :-)
Very nice and pleasent playing
I only want to help you Roland!
Yeah but does it djent?
Great playing and feel. Your dynamics really showcase what this amp can do
Thanks Antonis! Glad to hear that!
Never seen one of these amps! Roland USA is here in Los Angeles. Wow!
Cheers Don!
I understand slash played a Roland on the verses of sweet child, I'm not sure which model but I think solid state or valvestate
Cool O didn’t know that. Most likely it’s a Jazz Chorus which is known for its clean tones.
Jazz Chorus 120 I've read.
My buddy has one...cool amp indeed.
(and as you say, the onboard distortion is really bad)
cheers
...probably the same distortion circuit that is in the JC-120
;)
Cheers!
