Hi, I don't think the issue is with the company that provided the alert system, they seem very reputable, I think it's more likely to do with the way it has been set up or something.
Hi Nelle❤️ thank you for filming what happened! Your not the only deaf person at your university I would think and they have a legal right to keep you safe! What if you had been a disabled person in a wheelchair they would have required some form of help! It does not take much to set off a fire alarm, you only have to burn toast! But your right you need a flashing smoke alarm etc & any other device on the market for a deaf person! Who knows you may have saved someone's life with this video! You now think like a deaf person & become a good advocate for deaf people! It shows how much you care about fellow deaf people filming this! ❤️❤️
Hi, I think it's really important that people are aware that this is an issue. I do have a fire alarm that flashes to wake me up, but it went off so late that it could have been dangerous if the fire had been serious (it wasn't, it was just a small kitchen fire that they could put out by chucking a fire blanket on it).
@@nellefindlay I'd suggest speaking with the Dean or student counsellor. The exact procedure for you and any deaf student, should be as well understood and in place as it is for the entire university. Assumptions don't help anyone, least of all you.
Hello there. You can request to have an Fire Alarm that does flashes instead of sound. They have them in Deaf campus. Also flashing doorbell would be helpful as well
Hi, that's what I have, but it went off several minutes after the audible alarm which is what the issue is. My alarm did go off eventually but only after everyone else was already outside.
I so happy you are well after this incident, I also would suggest you have a hard talk to the company of your alert system. Greetings from Switzerland

Hi Nelle. Too right. Important, they fully understand what's gone wrong and why. I hope they respond in as positive a tone as your e-mail.
So far, they've just said they would check my fire alarm yesterday. Nobody came to check my fire alarm yesterday.
