How can you prove, that it has been done NO impact? Is there an reviewed article on this subject? Whatever success this population have, you are NOT helping it by forcing them to move, when they have reached the spawning ground, that is for sure, I can´t even surely tell, that you are damaging them. BUT you are affecting them, no matter what the way. Just leave them be. How can even DIRECTOR OF MUSEUM think, that it is normal to force them to action, so it than looks good at the video, they are not circus animals to perform on your behalf... To say, that this walking was done as gently as possible is just completely out of reality, it was done clearly to provoke an action, so there is something happening in the video

It´s clearly saying, that you should not do that repeatedly , and best avoid it anyway. Because the migratory and spawning processes of Pacific salmon are regarded as remarkable challenges, we strive to understand the links among physiology, behavior and fitness in these animals. Salmon migrations historically have shown a large degree of consistency, but any environmental changes or anthropogenic perturbations are considered a potential threat to reproduction, and thus survival, of a given population. Our results suggest that acute stressors do not influence behavior or reproductive outcome when experienced upon arrival at spawning grounds. However, there is a limit to the ability of these fish to tolerate elevated cortisol levels because experimental cortisol elevation for several days negatively affected reproductive success and longevity. Collectively, our results address a void in current research, explaining how varying degrees of cortisol elevation can influence reproductive behavior and spawning success of Pacific salmon. The sampling was done under permits issued by Alaska fish and Game. Same protocol for > 20 years and ZERO sign of any negative impacts. The fish are sampled for tissues and points of bear predation so we have to walk in the stream (carefully).
My thought is that the salmon would have to propel themselves vigorously like this to get up a shallow stream such as this regardless of the Rangers presence.
