That Alpina is a beautiful piece - classic but distinctive; a nice foil to the Citizen - I have a Citizen eco-drive diver with just a date complication. Always wanted one with the day as well - one day!
Only 100m? My Casio Duro is 200m with screw down crown. I used to buy diver watches then i realized i don't dive. lol . it's a rugged looking watch I like the large hour and minute hands... I'm a Seiko before Citizen type of guy. Great review. And just for the record im not knocking Citizen they make awesome watches. Its like Toyota or Honda...both are great.
That's a good comparison between Toyota and Honda, I like that! Most people are not actual divers but I think the dive watch style appeals to many people. Thanks for watching!
i think the NY0040 (or its Eco-Drive Sibling, the bn0150) is a much better diver from Citizen. it costs almost the same, but its a proper iso certified diver (200 meter waterresistance, screwdown crown), she is a bit smaler, have almost the same movement, an because the lugwith is 22 mm, there are more options for straps and bracelets

I've had mine for over a year now and wear it more than any of my other watches. I don't take any care wearing it and it has stood up well to the knocks. I love the look of it and the size.
Congrats on 1K. Nice review. It’s a nice watch, but with some issues. The price is OK. It’s large, and your not getting any benefit for the size here. Only 100m WR and no screw down crown. What’s strange is that it still has a fully indexed Bezel. It’s big enough to be an ISO Diver, but it’s not. If you are OK with the basic movment, mineral crystal, and 100m wr, the price is OK for a Citizen. I actually have a Citizen NY-0080, it has the Diver’s 200m rating but still mineral crystal and same basic movment. This is an Asian market model so there is a premium for the rest of the world.
Thanks for a great review. I am a fan of the dive watch style, actually the majority of mine are like this, tho with rubber and bracelets, but I do not have a black one and I do like the look. So a couple of things I am not a fan of - yes I know it's built to a price: non-screw-down crown, do I need it not really, but to me it shows a higher level of quality. 100m water resist, do I need a deeper diver, no but for the same reason as listed before. Happy about the uni-directional bezel. Do I want another rubber strap, maybe not but the IP really looks great. Orient have a Ray Raven II Auto in black with a bracelet, Day And Date, Screw Down Crown, 200m but a bit higher price point - so there's that. Thanks again for an enjoyable review, cheers mate.
