I worked for a scaffolding company and we got a contract to build some scaffolding hanging from the ceiling in the Memphis pyramid. 300+ feet high it was a permanent install one of the coolest installs I ever did with that company.
As a memphian, I didn't want a bass pro into the pyramid. Until I went in and I was amazed. I know it's not better then the store in Missouri, but it's still nice to visit
I was at The Big Dig (the groundbreaking for when they first built the pyramid). Me, my mom and the guy she was dating and his kids all sat on top of a parking garage and watched as they had a helicopter fly in and drop a giant "shovel" made of lights into the spot with fireworks going off.
@@LaBreeceTVYeah I was about to say that sane thing. You'd gotta be blind or ignorant enough to not notice a large Pyramid like structure in freaking DOWNTOWN!🤦🏾♂️
This is great amazing story since I’m a fellow Memphian, and I had my share of memories going to Memphis Tigers Basketball games at The Pyramid and I attended a few Grizzlies games there as well.
Lol oh man.. I've lived in Memphis my whole life.. that intro talkin about how epic pyramids are, and already knowing how this story went had be facepalming lmao.. yeahh I have some good memories of going down there as a kid. Dad took me to watch the Tigers play a bunch of times, and I remember going for a few other events they held there as well.. so yeah, kinda sad for me.. although it's kinda cool, I guess, in it's own weird way? I just don't really have any reason to go there anymore.. A theme park or casino sounded kinda fun haha, but I really have no good ideas about what it could/should otherwise be either 🤷I can't imagine much else would surprise me more than it becoming a Bass Pro mega store though lmao 😅😅
The company I work for is in Tennessee. I spend a LOT of time all over Tennessee. I’m not poking to tell the fine people of Tennessee how to rum their state but I would suggest they at least explore the possibilities of giving West Tenn to Arkansas or something. Memphis doesn’t exactly fit with the rest of the state

I live in middle tennessee also and I agree with you a hundred percent. Rite on the other side of I 40 is Memphis's tallest skyscraper. First of all, you can screw right off woth that false title there. You were completely better off without adding in the word "Abandoned" there in all caps. And screw the DraftKings ad too. Second, while it's nice to see that there are more channels here doing videos on the Pyramid, speaking as a native here, there's not really much helping this city even if there was another attempt at making something as ambitious as that again. Especially with how crime ridden its been becoming more and more. There's a reason why it's known as the most dangerous city in the country numerous times.

@fresatx have you ever actually BEEN to St Louis?! Fuck yes there's culture there. Blueberry Hill? Busch Stadium? Gooey Butter Cake? Just say you've never been kid.
There is nothing about Memphis or any city in the US that makes me think, "yea, a giant steel and glass pyramid would be awesome here." Now with that being said.... Even worse of an idea a pyramid is in Memphis is having it enclose a Bass Pro store... Lmfao. There is no wildlife, hunting, fishing, or any other outdoor sport/activity has any relation with a pyramid. In my opinion anyway.. a concert venues/event center would make for a better fit.
Considering the fact that the city is named after an actual city feom Ancient Egypt, it made more sense having a monument that hardens back to that. It's just a shame it degraded into a Bass Pro Shop.
Friend was an engineering student at U of Mem. He said while they were pouring the concrete for the pyramid, they hated the weekends. Seems every Monday they’d come and see where the concrete pour had sloughed over the weekend. Had to put off tying the top together cause the corner had settled so far, it had to be repoured. Structural cracks visible when they held the Titanic exhibition there on the ground floor. Gaps showing at least an inch wide all along it. See, the land it’s on was owned by a sherrif’s cousin, and you can beat there was much money passed under the table in the 80’s. Did an analysis and land had been a land fill and never compacted down. Wonder it’s still around but that’s how the “good ol southern boys” operate.

I think Memphis had its own Egypt thing going on because the original capital of Egypt was Memphis. As for Nashville, who knows.
Listing this site as abandoned and then pushing draft kings, you def get a thumbs down
The KFC Yum Center opened in 2010. I remember visiting Louisville in spring 2009 when my hotel room had a view of it being built.
