Motown made them lie about their ages to 'appeal' more (i.e. the younger they are, the cuter they are, the more their talent seems extraordinary) even though a 13 year old boy with a talent like Michael's was amazing enough imo.
Funny how people think he/they weren't superstars until Thriller. Of course I'm happy he went on to do his own music, but a lot of the music brought to light a lot of artists who might not have been heard otherwise. Or in the case of Smokey Robinson, he was so happy to hear Michael sing his music. He really did them proud. And when he grew up, you could see how much love he had for the heroes who influenced him.

Now all of a sudden, he has become a larger than life icon, and nobody is focusing on the fucked up shit he has done. If only we all could be that lucky when we pass over to the other side.
@ohrubin It was a publicity stunt created by the people at Motown to decrease his age by two years to create a cuter and more "child prodigy" like image. When the group first signed and started releasing songs, the PR people wanted the audience to think he was 9 when he was really 11 and it continued on from there.
also to fearnotone: I do agree with you that we all need to look in the mirror. But when pertaining to what you said (those who hate MJ are in reality hating themselves) I don't think those who hate would be looking in the mirror to create a reality...but rather looking in the mirror to see that they are NOT perfect...and should not judge another man for also not being perfect

In the beginning they were a group, until they met barry and then Barry gordan separated this guy form his ffamily and taught him all the things that made him feel superior to his brothers. I feel barry will answer for all the relationships he destroyed and all the lives just for his ambition and greed.
