That intake is pulling cold air from the front grill, (away from the engine) blocking air from the engine bay intentionally so that its pulling in colder air from outside only, by removing the cover you are allowing the cooler air that comes in from the frontal sucking action to mix with the hot air trapped in the engine bay creating a warmer intake pull to the engine thus reducing performance. Just FYI.

Agreed, a better mod would be opening the port on the intake of the box from the inlet outside. Like a real vent from outside on the hood or front facia.

@@xDEERxKILLERxNah he's right I learn the hard way with a Gm blazer. It sounds cool but in the end your temps run higher if you don't properly take cold air from the outside of the engine bay. The boxes they come with stock have pipes that run away from the motor. The cold air method works with the cone filter but you HAVE to take air from anywhere else but the bay itself.

PLEASE do not do this to your poor Escape! If you want to make more noise, do a professional exhaust mod, sure, whatever floats your boat. But these mods will REDUCE engine performance.
1.) The filter box is there to not only protect the filter from excess particulate, but to draw cooler, denser air from outside the engine bay, which is then further cooled by the turbos heat exchanger, before intake. This is an Atkinson cycle engine, meaning it's intake volume is reduced via shorter compression stroke compared to exhaust volume, increasing energy efficiency, but reducing overall power potential. The turbo makes up the difference, but sucking in low-density, hot air nulls it, not to mention your filter will clog faster out of it's box (also reducing airflow).
2.) The backwards y-junction in the exhaust is obstructing flow to the left pipe, forcing most of it out of only the right, increasing back-pressure, reducing power potential.
If you put this on a dyno before and after, you either won't see any substantial difference, or total HP will be less with the mods. All you've done is make more noise, and reduce the life of your air filter.

I mean the air inlet is the exact same, might be sucking in a bit more hot air but with the intercooler cooling it back off, it is doing nothing wrong to the filter. Having seen enough if these filters with the box on, you could rotate it a 1/8 of a turn every oil change for 2 years before you would make the whole thing dirty.
The exhaust well technically he may lose 5 hp but he is gaining it in tq, technically.
Regardless who cares what people do to their cars. Props to this guy for actually working on his own stuff.

    • @simpleKyle
      @simpleKyle 4 роки тому

Hold up. Do you guys actually think an intercooler makes the air colder?
It makes it less hot. The turbo gets hot from the exhaust but with water cooling and oil feed it should float around 180 Fahrenheit, not to mention the act of compression increases heat in a system. Newtonian physics 101.
You want cool air in because it's denser giving you more of a charge and working your turbo less. Plus, the hotter air will make your intercooler less efficient.
It doesn't matter how big the inlet tube is. The turbo will make sure it has plenty of velocity. Also, its really small so it spools hella quick, so a "free flowing intake" won't make a difference.

One 2-1/2" pipe split into two 2" pipes (like on the factory muffler) really doesn't reduce flow. Removing the muffler itself most likely did increase flow A BIT, as many factory mufflers are designed more for quiet operation than for performance. The weight reduction is also minimal enough that it wouldn't make a tangible difference unless you're racing the Escape, and even then pulling things like the rear seats would lose a larger amount of weight. However, putting a Y pipe on backwards won't increase flow any more than either splitting to two 2" pipes with a Y pipe in the correct direction (and no muffler) or running a single 2-1/2" pipe all the way. If you look at the flow through the system, most of the exhaust gasses will get to the Y pipe and keep flowing as straight as possible, through the right-hand exhaust tip. Also, as others have pointed out already, simply taking the cover off of the filter box will let in the warm engine bay air that factory intakes AND quality cold air intakes are designed specifically to prevent. I haven't researched the 1.5T intake, but the factory intake on my 2013 Escape with the 2.0L EcoBoost already flows very freely, with an estimated one and a halt times the airflow needed for stock engines. As such, modifying it is not beneficial unless the engine is being significantly upgraded for performance. True "tuning" is identifying the restrictive points in the system and improving them to make the overall system work better. Improving something that isn't a restriction will yield little or no benefit to how the car performs.

I will give you the turbo sneeze sounds coo,l but you should try to block out the underhood heat. You can also block the return to the intake and just let the turbo speak for itself. That does cause some small boost lag but the dump is fantastic. I did it to my 2012 ford F150 eco. It works on the escape too.

Why? the Escape is a good small 180HP SUV for drive around, shopping your groceries and go to work is nothing wrong with the stock exhaust and put back the filter cover or the poor engine going to drawn in a rainy day.

Gotta love people that ruin perfectly running cars to seem cool. The air box mod kills power, the Air velocity that was removed from the Ram air style intake will hurt acceleration. How your exhaust goes to Ypipe the exhaust gasses follow the easiest path its not going to take a 120 degree turn back to left, its going to be forced out the right pipe and the vacuum is going to pull air in from the left. Simple Physics gents.

Oh my fuck I lost brain cells with this one. That Y-Pipe should have had the single in from the Engine and the Dual outs for the tips, the intake JUST SPEND MONEY ON A REAL ONE but it still wont make a difference aside from sound realistically. Maybe a 1-2hp gain but that's speculating.

Not crazy about removing the intake filter cover.
Seems it would take in the hot air coming off the engine and allow more dirt particulates to enter the intake.
Now the exhaust yes! Like the idea.
I have the Titanium 2.0L AWD
I hate that fake 3" sadered on chrome pipe tip , why Ford just couldn't do it right from factory.
    Minor cost if any!.
But! I do enjoy driving my Escape, great performance .very pleased thus far.
I am an ex Volvo S60 R guy, loved that car 12 year no issues till it was totaled!, lol
Hence reading why driving the Escape , now
There are a few cons , but none mechanical except the Exhaust , if you count that.
1 other major pev the gas filler door does not lock! All other Ford models do!

I added a Airaid cold air on my 2017 Escape Titanium Awd 2.0 EcoBoost. Like my other vehicle's cold air systems. They are open. The reduction in 0-60 times were minimal for the Escape. I did read in the owners manual. Maximum horsepower is obtained using 93 octane. I did notice a reduction in the 0-60 times running the 93 octane. Timed with 87 octane no cold air produced 0-60 times. Traction control off. 7.457 seconds. My best time with 93 octane and the Airaid system was 6.939. A big difference, but it was also a cool day which helped. From memory since I can't find my time slips. I had written down. Quarter mile 15.166/92.82 mph. I'm wanting to do the exhaust, but I'm not sold on the sound for a partial change. I have not heard a full system change, but before spending over $900. I would like to hear one. There are a couple tunes available for 93 octane providing over a 35 Horsepower increase raising it from 245 to 280+. My issue is it voids my factory warranty. So maybe a year from now. To be honest. There's very view performance mods available for the Escape 2.0 EcoBoost unlike the Escort ST where the engine is different.

How do you guys like the 2.0, I just think it’s odd what ford is doing with that car because the 2009-2012 3.0 naturally aspirated v6 made about the same horsepower @5500rpm, the fuel savings are also very minor, my friend has the 1.5 and I have the 3.0 and we get within 1mpg of each other so I imagine that an awd 2.0 gets the same as mine. It just seems like no real progress has been made with this car since ‘09.

Shoulda just got a hooker cutout after the cats. I don't suggest spending money on a 1.5 4cyl... 1.5 3cyl sure it's a performance engine 1.5 4cyl is a econoboom engine. this video is actually so stupid, removing the top of the airbox ruins the performance of the motor, your sucking in all the hot air from the motor running the power of it, not only that its a 1.5 liter not a 6.2 its supposed to be quiet cause it's not a race car. This whole video is counter-intuitive.
