AMS2 does 90's through early 2000's Era cars so well!
I was born in 1969, and in the late 70's and early 80's my brother and I, like a lot of other kids we knew, dreamed of becoming professional race car drivers when we grew up. Nothing ever came of that, but at 55 now I am really enjoying my sim rig.... pretending to be a real race car driver. :)

98 CART was what started my love for racing. This skin pack needs helmets and suits.

First race my dad brought me to at 13 years old was the Nazareth PA oval in 1998. Greg Moore, Andretti, Zanardi… the list goes on. Hooked me for life!

Loving the rear camera view! I can follow the action well now, and seeing you driving on your simrig and dealing with the FFB makes it very relatable and immersive too. I watched the whole race from start to finish and got right into it. I just hope that you're not compromising too much if you're sacrificing your motion platform to achieve this level of presentation. Quick side note: by the sounds of it, the other cars are using first gear coming out of slow corners but maybe you're more comfortable with second. Regardless, great content Mike, and thank you very much for the extra camera and for sharing this race and experience! :)
I've been at every Indycar race at Portland International Raceway since 1984, when Al Unser Jr. won his first race. It's pretty good now, but I still think that the mid to late 90's was the best. Scott Dixon will be spoken of in the same conversation as the Unser's, Andretti's, and AJ Foyt, when he retires.

I too fully enjoyed this era. Even went to the race in Vancouver in 99. Back then the series were more fun than the always predictable F1 where you could always count on the leader lapping the entire field by midpoint in the race. Indy provided the kind of excitement that F1 lacked then.
Being able to go back in time and relive the era, especially in VR is truly an amazing experience. So glad to see Reiza taking vintage racing so seriously and doing such a great at it.
I loved 90’s racing on general as a kid I wanted to be a race car driver when I grew up. Was told back people will never make it in racing so I did something else. Al Unser jr. Car was the most beautiful car. I play this on steam deck every day

I wish AMS2 would add more of the Indycar Era Tracks so that a complete series could be done. They are missing the street tracks such as Long Beach and Detroit. I have all these tracks in other SIM racing games and I can do a complete Indycar series races.
A friend and myself did go to Road America live Indycar races several times back in those years and was awesome racing to see them come down the main straight past the start finish line. We also went and watched Indycar races at the Milwaukee Mile oval track. I miss going to live Indycar racing.

Awesome awesome video Mike!! These cars from the 90’s sound absolutely beautiful! This era of IndyCar takes me back to the Sega Dreamcast days in the early 2000’s. I remember the demo of a racing game for Dreamcast called FLAG to FLAG released in 1999. That game was officially licensed by CART under the Sega Sports banner and was based on the 1998 season. The game was a lot of fun with a amazing retro soundtrack 😁😁😁. Mannnn miss those days! 😭. Can’t wait to watch the Indy 500 🏎 🏎 🏎

What FFB setup do you use in AMS2? Some custom ones? I also have a T818.
I grew up with F1 as a brit but as i got older I have really began to appreciate the other race series around the word. Indycar is certainly one of those, the racing feels very raw. I only really have a couple of complaints about the series and that mostly has to do with the coverage of it. too many ads that pop up far to frequently even when there is an important battle happening and also the constant weird slow-mo with the music over the top. it feels like it want's to be NFL.

You’re 100% correct. The coverage is awful. Fullscreen commercial/advert breaks instead of picture-in-picture completely takes the viewer out of the moment. And those ad breaks are so frequent.
@@SimRacing604 exactly that. It's a massive shame because the racing is so good and even this season there has been many different race winners.
By the way that double overtake outside to inside was beautiful to watch
Go back in a time into the 80s and the coverage of Indy was just painful. It was Americana at its best (or worst, for those of us not in the USA). It was like watching today's heavy dose of Americana in the SuperBow. It's just painful for anyone outside of the US.
Then Indy was taken over by very talented Brazilian racers and the series kinda became a defacto Brazilian championship, even including events in Brazil. And lets not forget some great Canadian talent too. That is, if someone can call Paul Tracy talented, although no one would expand his elbows like him. And who can forget Greg Moore? RIP, buddy.

The late nineties CART races were equal if not better than anything F1 produced at the time. By the way Mike, you're not wrong about Michael Andretti. He wasn't a great performer and often DNF'd. Definitely not the same calibre as Mario.

unfortunately the ai are slow around the carousel it is where i always end up overtaking reiza could do with tweaking it.
In real life last year after the repave, Colton Herta went thru the carousel and never lifted. The onboard video was nuts. Love this place, my home track.
It's all about indycar for me at the moment. F1 races are so boring
