Thank you. Tried to figure out hoe to make a shuffle without the silicone sink mat I saw in another video since the added an expense to making a number of the snuffles. Your video was well done.
I love this tutorial, great idea. I'll be making one tonight. I have to leave my 4mth old puppy alone for a couple of hours. This'll help so much I'm sure.
My mum made peg rugs, we had them in our bedroom to hide the Lino 🤣 great way of using your scraps cause a sewer or crafter never throws anything away, love this demo ❤❤❤
@@TheCraftsChannel maybe if they’re good 😉, but it took me ages to make the one. I cut up old socks and fabric plus backed the mat fabric. It certainly kept them amused, especially Finn. 😊
Thank you ever so much for this awesome Snuffle Mat‼️❣️‼️ Best one on UA-cam by far❣️ Will be making one for my sweet kitty , who always joins me in my sewing room and for my nextdoor neighbor's dog who is treat crazy 🤣 Thanks again 😻🐾🐶💕
Thank you for your video. I'mvteachung myself to use my sewing machine and fancy making this. Could you give me some idea how many strips you used as I will to same size mat as yours. Also how many per line. Many thanks x
Just counted it for you. There are 25 rows with an average of 45 pieces per row. I make that about 1,125 pieces of fabric. Hope you've got a lot of leftovers!!! c x
@@TheCraftsChannel wow that many!!!! I bought 2 quilt covers, maybe I wont gave enough. Better get some more. Thank you for counting. Hope I can get it to look anything like yours.
Do you mean sew all the pieces side to side first, then gather, then stitch to the backing? You could do it that way, but then there is twice as much thread in the construction, c x
I used 100% quilt weight cotton. It does fray but not too badly. All I can suggest is using pinking shears to cut the strips but that will take more time, c x
Hope it helps to keep them occupied. My collie cross has just realised that he can rip bits out of this one and scatter them across the living room! Took him a while to suss on though 😉 c x
Do we need to cut the scraps uniformly or would it be fine to use oddly shaped scraps? I make bags and clothes and those have curves and my scraps are always oddly shaped, not neat or easily trimmed to neat rectangles. I know it would affect the final look perhaps but technique wise?
Technique wise odd shapes are fine, I'd recommend you try to keep them about 3cm wide where you're going to stitch, and not too long in case your dog likes to eat fabric, c x
They would sew on ok but I'm not sure whether they would be dangerous if an animal swallowed them as they tend to be made with a degree of plasticky fibres don't they? c x
I tend to use 100% cotton as I feel it is less harmful if swallowed and also frays easily meaning it's more difficult for the dog to pull the whole strip off at once, c x
For something this size (which would be purrfect for a kitty) fold them over, put a strip of painter's (low tack) tape to hold them out of the way...I think my lady cat will like one of these.
I love this idea! Unfortunately my dog is far too lazy to use this lol. My late dog would have absolutely loved this though. She could sniff out a treat from twenty miles away!
Thank you! Yours was the only one I saw online that used fabric scraps and that's exactly what I want to do.
This is a fabulous idea. Dogs with separation anxiety might benefit from this also.
Thank you, yes maybe adding scraps of old clothing in the mix might help? c x
A piece of sticky tape will help keeping them out the way while you stitch the next row. Love this. Thank you !
Thank you for this cute pet mat sewing tutorial. I'm going to make one for a friend and one for our cat. I know my friends animals will love it 🙂
Thank you, my dog loves his. Mainly because he can happily rip bits off it! c x
I love this mat and because I know my dogs I'm going to make one out of old tshirt material. Thanks for the tutorial.
Awesome! And we used to have a rabbit! She would’ve loved this! Has to be rabbit friendly treats of course!
Great idea to sew the strips on the base.

What a great idea for using up all those scraps!!! My dogs are going to love it! Thank you for sharing!
I will be making two of these tomorrow for my Siberian cats. Thank you again, Corinne, for another wonderful tutorial!

You are just so enjoyable to watch. Thank you for sharing. I cant wait to try this.
Thank you! LOVE your dry Brit humor!
Haha! c x
Love that. I am wondering if you finished the edges of all those little pieces?
Ha ha, no! They're left to fray naturally. You could try cutting the pieces with pinking shears to cut down on the loose threads if you prefer, c x
Thanks for this! I can confirm rabbits will adore it!!!
Haha, thank you for the info! c x
Thank you so much! Archie and Finn will love this! 🐾🐾
Hope you're going to make them one each? c x

@@TheCraftsChannel actually I might do half the size of yours, hopefully it won't be too small, or will it??
@@janjohnson6721 I don't think it would be too small, it's the denseness of the fabric strips that make it interesting for a dog, not the size, c x
How far apart do u draw the lines on the base of the mat
From memory these were about 1" or 2.5cm apart, c x
I love this video, the mat and your humour!!! So making this for my labradoodle Millicent.
Ha ha, hope she likes it! c x
Can you also make your own connected ruffles using a gathering stitch?
Do you mean sew all the pieces side to side first, then gather, then stitch to the backing? You could do it that way, but then there is twice as much thread in the construction, c x
@@TheCraftsChannel yea you're right lol 😅
Thank you for the project. Looks like a good idea for a bath mat. How far apart are you sewing each row?
She said about 2 cm ( 3/4 in) apart at the beginning of the video.
@@melanienicholson2834 thank you. I missed that. Appreciate you
your welcome, I thought it would make nice bathroom mat also
I have started making this, I've cut just over 200 but the threads are easily pulling out, what material should I use please x

I’m gonna start thsi project as I’ve been looking for a project like this as I have a highly active sports dog now so yeh

Forgot to ask...how long are the strips you used. They looked like the perfect size! Thank you.
Finished the first cat mat. Came out perfectly. Thanks for the great idea! Cats love it! One down, one to go!
@@cookingwithelise Great! Glad they're enjoying it. I think I used 10-11cm long strips on mine, c x
Taping the strips back out of the way. So not to chance leaving a pin in the mat.

@@swapnaeleswarapu8269 Ah. If your cat is anything like mine the shape of the fabric won't matter... it'll be unrecognisable within half a day! c x
Can fleece pieces be used for this?
They would sew on ok but I'm not sure whether they would be dangerous if an animal swallowed them as they tend to be made with a degree of plasticky fibres don't they? c x
what type of fabric can you use?
I tend to use 100% cotton as I feel it is less harmful if swallowed and also frays easily meaning it's more difficult for the dog to pull the whole strip off at once, c x
Can I use fleece fabric?
I would think so as long as your pet doesn't tend to chew and swallow pieces. Think fleece would be bad for their stomach, c x
Thanku, I will make one of these this week.
What fun, my dog will love it! Thanks!
Great video! I’ll be making one for our kitten 🙂
Great idea ! 😊
What size is the mat? Love this idea.
This finished one is about 30cm by 40cm. big enough to hide lots in but small enough to put in the washing machine, c x
