Truly incredible footage, especially of banff's main street. The one guy is just fixing the road while the bears just ignore him, truly a different time.
Rick- Thanks so much for posting this video. You have hit me at my weaknesses: I love vintage cars, and the great outdoors, and I was born in Delft, Holland. Liked and Subscribed.
I lived throughout this region for 20 years. Kootenay National Park is the quietest and least visited of the 4 contiguous National Parks, which with several Provincial Parks, preserve about 25,000 sq km / 10,000 sq miles of the heart of Canada's Rocky Mountains, the other National Parks are Yoho, Jasper, and Banff, straddling the Alberta - British Columbia provincial border. This road from Radium in B.C. to Banff in Alberta has long been a paved 2-lane highway but on a weekday in Autumn 2019 I passed only 10 vehicles going the other way on its 100 km / 60 mile length, in summer you may pass 50. The other Parks were getting crowded during summer until Co-Vid hit, Banff and Jasper towns are the main service centers. The Banff Springs Hotel was founded by the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1888 and was built in its present form in 1925, the celebrity guest list is one of the largest of any hotel anywhere, and it is still going strong with 1000 rooms and giant halls and dining rooms right out of Medieval Europe, it is now operated by Fairmont Hotels and there are many videos of it on UA-cam, as there are of this region in general. Great job on this film, Rick !
My dream road trip, 90 years too late. The Packard Dual Cowl Phaeton is the near-perfect car for the trip; visibility is nearly unlimited, plenty of room for gear, power, speed, comfort. All it takes is big bucks.
love this...just visited this area a month ago and its amazing that some is still recognizable from areas we drove through and stayed in the banff springs hotel turret on the far right...wish this music was on itunes
Black bears are relatively docile, it`s grizzlies and polar bears you need to show a healthier level of respect to. However, if you ever were confronted by a bear, running is the last thing you`d want to do, and maybe the last thing you`d ever do.
8:32 the good old days. Nowadays you can be charged with illegal bear feeding, a Class B Misdemeanor, which carries a penalty of up to six months in jail and a $500 fine.
Hello Rick, Thanks 🙏 for your effort, your efforts are really appreciated. Your technical skills are in different level. Music and video really takes me to 1930 ‘s.
In 1929 my newly married grandparents started their honeymoon traveling from Quebec's Eastern Townships all the way to Vancouver and return. They drove a 1927 Lexington. There were no modern roads at the time and outside of the larger cities the road consisted of little more than a dirt track. In many places, especially East of the prairies, the roadway consisted of nothing but logs lashed together to form a sort of washboard surface over muskeg. The trip took the entire summer. They had to change flat tires 26 times during that trip. The Lexington endured and my grandad spoke fondly of that car until the day he died.
The car they travel with is a precious one: a 1929 Packard 633 Dual Cowl Phaeton. The driver is wearing a knickerbocker. It was common for boys to swap the knickerbocker for a plus four when they got older (around 17 years). 7:48 and 8:00 seems like a 1927 Chevrolet Capital Tudor. 8:34 looks like a Ford model A 1928/1929. 12:00 Three men are wearing a Fez, a Turkish-type hat that was banned by Atatürk in 1925.
Packard Dual Cowl Phaeton? Are you sure? What about e.g. a 1929 Packard 640 touring www.prewarcar.nl/286368-1929-packard-type-640-touring or a 1929 Packard 633 Standard Eight Phaeton www.traumautoarchiv.de/html/6361.html Packard made a lot look-alikes in those days
@@emamotorbiker All the models you mention have been available from Packard as Dual Cowl Phaeton. What I do see is that it is a Packard and I see it is a Dual Cowl Phaeton. Another thing that strikes me about this car are the slots in the hood, but that happened in different models. Other Packards at that time had cooling doors there. I don't expect it to have been a 1928 because of the headlights. Given the ventilation grilles in the bonnet, it must have been a 1929 model 626 or a 633. Only the long chassis of the 633 was supplied by Packard as Dual cowl phaeton. So it is a 1929 Packard model 633 Dual Cowl Phaeton.
I noticed they went to the AAA office for a map . We travelled all around North America in 1971 with just one AAA map of Canada and the USA , not quite in the same style as we just had a VW !
That is not correct. Rick said that the film starts in Spokane, so AAA stands for American Automobile Assoc. (In Alberta, the similar organization is the AMA: the Alberta Motor Assoc.)
First thought on seeing momma Bear stood by Car door window----''Want your screen washed?'' Incredible scenery, good job, but better at 150% speed. --in my opinion.
I thought it was a house too, but in fact it is the Entrance gate to Kootenay National Park! I Googled it, but I guess it has been demolished. There are only old photographs of it on Google.
00:05 100% Packard. Maakte destijds veel op elkaar lijkende modellen. Welk model het precies is, is daarom heel moeilijk te bepalen. Het ornament op de motorkap is de godin van de snelheid a.k.a. "donut chaser". Hoe dat ornament aan die laatste naam komt, begrijp je wel als je dat ornament ziet 😁😁😁 cdn.drivingline.com/media/2314644/packard-goddess-of-speed-hood-ornament.jpg
Excellent, quite enjoyable. With one very respectful suggestion, IF--at all possible; would suggest an adjustment to increase the saturation of the Palette to bring out a more Vivid display of the Colors. While very admirable---looks abit 'antique' Thanks...
@@clark9992 yes you are correct. I’ve seen lots of those and it comes very close just like a tourist promotion. Mateo probably haven’t seen any before.
I’d like to point out 3 mistakes: The title of the clip at 6.09 is spelt wrong - it should be spelt “Floe Lake”. At 9.55 the title should change to “Mount Rundle”. The title of the last clip is wrong - a better title is “View from the Banff Springs Hotel of the Bow River”.

No, AAA would stand for American Automobile Association, since the first scene is in Spokane, USA!

Why stop at the AAA to pick up a map?
Just follow the only road.
