I once flew the British airways 747 from LHR to Beijing. After the flight, me and my dad asked if we could go to the top deck and see the business class seats. The cabin crew kindly let us up, and just as we got up there, the pilots were leaving the cockpit. They let us both in, and gave me a plane model and their pilot hat. My best experience ever and why I love BA so much!
@@Travel-df4lu a few years ago I flew with BA on my birthday from Manchester to Heathrow on the A320-200. I got treated like a king on board with free snacks ect. After arrival I got a visit to the cockpit and a photo with all the crew including the captain and cleaner + a card. Love BA
I flew with PanAm too in 1978. My first flight ever. Frankfurt to new York and return. It was amazing. Flying to Washington to visit my family on a regular basis with Lufthansa 747❤
The electric terminal vehicle at the beginning brings back good memories for me of when I was still a child. Saw those every time I flew with my parents. While now I don't see them at all, somehow.
First flight on 747 was in 1978 Clipper Constitution from LHR to JFK with PanAm had only flown on a Viscount so was blown away by the Jumbo Jet, flight back to Heathrow was also on a 747, 1979 Pan Am 747 LHR to LA then Pan Am 747 out to Hawaii Pan Am 747 and back to SanFransico, Pan Am 747 back to LHR. Since then various flights to the US mainly on 747s including Virgin, BA and United last 747 was 22 years old (British Airways) but have since flown British Airways A380 certainly a far better experience than my last 747 trip
@@OnBoardHD unfortunately my first return flight from JFK to LHR was memorable because I fell asleep a couple of hours before the breakfast on waking I asked a cabin crew member if I had missed breakfast she said I had and offered me a banana.
Very nice TripReport, as always :) I really like to watch your videos because I can also (oh forgot the english word but know the spanish one) mejorar my spanish with your videos. I am looking forward to fly this flight next year, as my uncle flies to NY every year, I said to him that I will travel there with him but book the 744. I mean, the -400 is sooo rare and wont be there very long anymore, so - I have to do that! Greetings from Germany :)
Nice! Great memories too, I was aboard 744 of LH from FRA to NRT back in 2015 on D-ABVY!:) Great to see them still flying and to see how they do thanks to your video! Cheers!
I m from Pakistan I have to much air traveling videos but after seeing your vlog I feel that I m part of this flight..'keep try to more interesting your video...
Over the decades I have flown on all versions of the 747, including the SP, except the 747-8 in First, Business and Economy class. My very first 747 flight was in Y class aboard an AF 747-200 from CDG-HKG in early 1978 routed CDG-NCE-TLV-THR-DEL-BKK-HKG! I can recall the standard 70's configuration with the 9-abreast (2 X 4 X 3) normally 34 inch pitch Y class configuration which was very nice and comfortable. I have seen this change to 3 X 4 X 3 and the pitch reduce to 31 inches on many carriers over the years. I have travelled F class in the days of 6 rows about 40 inch pitch in the nose of a 747-100/200 with the upstairs lounge and seen the abolition of the upstairs lounges, the reduction in F seats to 4 rows with a pitch of about 62 inches in the nose and then the introduction of modern day lie-flat products. I recall the very early business class configurations, often just Y class seats with enhanced cabin service, style, to the change to 8 abreast and then 7 abreast seating and then the introduction of modern day lie-flat products. I flew several times in business class aboard the LH 747-400's to the Far East in the early 90's. In their original configuration, LH put F class (20 seats - 2 X 2 62 inch pitch) on the upper deck and used the nose, the second and, in some very premium heavy configurations, part of the 3rd cabin as business class with initially 8 abreast changed later to 7 abreast seating (2 X 2 in the nose). Generally I liked travelling aboard a 747. When I watch videos such as this the one thing that always gets my attention is the reduction in catering quantity and quality in Y class today. That single cheese sandwich and nothing else as the second service is a joke. How much would it cost LH to provide something a bit more substantial than that!
Wow! Looks like you're very expereinces in traveling on the B747! hehe Yeah, the onboard service in Economy class nowadays is an absolute joke compared with some years ago...
The one and only time I ever got to fly on the "Queen" was back in July 1971. I was in the US Army stationed at Ft Hood TX. I had some leave and a long weekend and decided to drive up to Dallas and fly home to San Diego for a few days. Back then, the airlines had what was called a "Military standby" fare. I paid $97 from Dallas to San Diego and back. But, since this was a VERY busy time (4th of July), every flight west on Delta was packed. I arrived at Love Field around noon, and by around 10pm that evening, I was getting discouraged. I asked a Delta agent if there was anything else going ANYWHERE on the west coast this night. He said there was one more, going to LA at 2am, and he'd guarantee I'd get on it. I asked him how he could be so sure, and he replied it was Delta's ATL-DAL-LAX "redeye", and it was one of thier new 747s. Sure enough I got on the plane, with 20 pax and 10 cabin crew. Blew my mind they'd not cancel a flght with THAT few pax.. Caught a Delta flight to San Diego in the morning, and got home nearly 24 hours after leaving the Army base.
"it was one of thier new 747s." when I've read that part I couldn't not smile. It's incredible how fast the time goes by... Nice story. Thanks for sharing it :) Glad that you enjoyed the video!
Very good report. Thank you. I just wanted to point out that the river you saw just after take off from Frankfurt was the Main not the Rhein. The Rhein only came into sight at Düsseldorf, as you showed.
LOVE the Queen of the Sky!! last flew on the 747 with KLM...leg room was not good....LAX to AMS and my knees were touching the seat in front of me (at 1.8 meters) :(
It's sad that almost every airline in the world retired them... I think now they could be useful in high-demand routes... as Lufthansa and Korean Air are showing...
Just love the 747s many going away soon. Thanks for sharing. I remember many years ago one of the first test 747s came to Tucson and I saw them unload Three SUVs and I car from the end of the plane. Amazing. Nothing like watching a movie about shooting down planes...
Hello..., yes I flew with Boing 767 in Summer of 1986 together with my father as we flew from also Frankfurt to New York JFK, but with the airline PIA (Pakistan International Airlines). And I also flew with Lufthansa in an Airbus A 320 from Frankfurt to Stockholm with a Christian travel agency (Liebenzeller Mission Freizeiten & Reisen) in December 2003 over New Years Eve. Our destiny was Galsjö Bruk in the Swedish province of Angermanland in the middle of Sweden.
Absolutely loved the beautiful Amazing filming capturing .. lovely content vloggs trip report, and you doing an excellent great job, keep up a great work, absolutely spectacular beautiful gorgeous scenery views up in the air .. appreciate most of your videos adventures, safe travels and enjoy your weekend ..
Lufthansa plans to continue flying 747-8i until 2040 or thereabout. Fun fact: Lufthansa is only airline to have flown the 747 the longest, uninterrupted since its first 747 delivered in 1970 to this day. Many of the early adopters in the 1970s have either gone out of business or ended the 747 service early. Air China, Iraqi Airways, and Rossiya Airlines still fly passenger 747-400 along with Lufthansa. My first-ever flight was with Lufthansa 747-100 from Frankfurt to Chicago in 1973. Ever since, I've flown with all 747 variations except 747SP. My most recent 747 flight was Lufthansa 747-8i from Rio de Janeiro to Frankfurt. What a huge difference between -8i and older variations! Frankfurt am Main aeroport is only one in the world to stick with mechanical letter turners for the departure information panels since its opening in 1972. Passengers love hearing the gentle drones of flaps flipping down and watching them in action (almost like the waterfall action).
I have an opportunity to take my one and only 747 flight next month (Tokyo to Frankfurt). If I don't do it now I will probably never get the chance again before this amazing machine is taken out of service forever.
Thank you very much for this great video, as always ! I've flown a few times in 747 when I was young, it's one of my favorites planes, I hope to fly again in it before it is retired ! 🙂
Nice video! Such a lovely flight! I was never able to take a flight with a Boeing 747 before. The only time that I went in a 747 was in 2011, when I visited the aviation museum at Le Bourget airport, near Paris. There is a former Air France Boeing 747-100 in static exhibition there, and it is possible to get into the plane to visit it! Kinda sad that nowadays there are very few passenger 747 flying in commercial services. As I am being from Brazil, my last chance to fly aboard a 747 is to book a ticket with Lufthansa from São Paulo (GRU) to Frankfurt (FRA), for the flight LH507. Ah, just forgot. The current largest operator of passenger Boeing 747-400 is Rossiya Airlines, from Russia, with a fleet of nine aircraft of the model. Cheers!
Thanks so much! I don't have anything booked, as the prices for those flights are crazily expensive at the moment. But I will record something this summer, for sure :)
@@OnBoardHD Thanks ! I have been trying to book flights to either Menorca or on of the Canary Islands but the prices are through the roof ! It’s so frustrating
Hope your food was better than it looked, like I told you a while a h go I I worked in this Indy for 15 years in Manchester uk 🇬🇧 (Sky chefs)never seen a salad like that before, tomato, cucumber and a bit of shredded carrot would enhance it immensely, love the 747 reports 👏👏
Flew BA first LHR to SYD, my first experience of first class. Amazing especially hearing the nose wheel go up, service was great. Think Emirates A380 or new 777 has surpassed it but your first is best right?
At 5:01, that a dog & cat carrier on the right when they are loading the bags? Would have paid extra & had them with me on the plane. Cargo holds are bad for animals.
Nice video! I’ve been on the 747 many times, first in 1974 (TWA); last in 2016 (El Al). Back in 1974, I boarded the aircraft and said, “This is like the Paradise Theater, it will never leave the ground!” 😂 ✈️
Thank you for sharing your flight here. It looked very nice. You were sitting somewhat in the back there. Did you have enough time before flight to go the Lufthansa Lounge? And were you able to get Premium Economy or Business Class at this time.for more leg room. Yes, I miss flying on the USA's 747-400s. I would always use my points to get Business Class. And I have traveled in Premium Economy right behind Business. I am tall so I need the leg room! I heard the kids around you. Did they go to sleep for a little bit. Again, thank you for sharing.
My best experience in Premium Economy was when B.A, used the 747 on my regular route but unfortunately it’s no more. I flew Business with Lufthansa on their 747 just before the pandemic, seated in the upper cabin it was very nice but nothing exceptional, food and service not as good as Air France or KLM which are the airlines I now use.
Hi! My first flight with a 747 was in December 1975 with American Airlines 747-100 from San Juan to JFK connecting to Pan Am 747-200 from JFK to FRA! Then a few years later Avianca 747-200 from SJU-MAD-PAR-FRA. I flew the 747 a lot. The most "exotic" was with Air India and Iran Air 747SP from LHR. I still look to fly Lufthansa BUT with all the airport strikes at german airports I am avoiding Germany. Still looking at Korean Air. Too bad UNITED didn't keep the 747. Lets see if you are able to get on KE's 747*8i. Thanks!
HI. LOVE ❤️ YOUR CHANEL, THE 👌 BEST. THE OTHER CHANEL " YOU KNOW, THE GUY TALKS TO MUCH!! HE IS ALL IN YOUR FACE!! YOU LET YOUR AUDIENCE VIEW EVERYTHING, VERY PEACEFULL. I WATCH JUST PLANES TO. OH, THE 👦 NAME IS "" JEB"" THANKS AGAIN, FROM US.
Thanks for nice snaps of Greenland and Arctic. They're amazing. Nevertheless, the service onboard seems poor - especially the second snack and beverage choice. I think there is nothing special in flying LH

Well... 2040 I guess it's a little bit too much... hehe
But yeah, they said they would make the B747 thei flagship :)
As much as I love 747, flying with Lufthansa is a pain. 😅
I have an opportunity to take my one and only 747 flight next month (Tokyo to Frankfurt). If I don't do it now I will probably never get the chance again before this amazing machine is taken out of service forever.
0:53 Lufthansa, Korean air, Air China and Mahan air still use passenger 747 as for today. (747 400 and 8i)
Thank you very much for this great video, as always ! I've flown a few times in 747 when I was young, it's one of my favorites planes, I hope to fly again in it before it is retired ! 🙂
Thanks a lot! Really glad that you enjoy them so much! :)
Cheers!
Asiana Airlines is using their last 747-400 passenger aircraft (HL7428).
Great trip report as always 👍
I believe Mahan still operates 300 and 400 variants of the 747
Thanks so much! I dind't know abut Mahan Air...
Have a nice week! Cheers from the US! :)
Very smooth landing, and luckily nobody was clapping! 🙈 😅
Great video, thank you! 👍
Great Trip Report ! Do you have any European holiday flights soon ?
Yeah, I can say the warm meal tasted better than how it looked :)
Glad that you've enjoyed it!
Flew BA first LHR to SYD, my first experience of first class. Amazing especially hearing the nose wheel go up, service was great. Think Emirates A380 or new 777 has surpassed it but your first is best right?
Wow! That looks like an amazing experinece! :)
I don't understand your question =/
At 5:01, that a dog & cat carrier on the right when they are loading the bags? Would have paid extra & had them with me on the plane. Cargo holds are bad for animals.
You can't bring animals bigger than an specific size/weight on the cabin... =/
Nice video! I’ve been on the 747 many times, first in 1974 (TWA); last in 2016 (El Al). Back in 1974, I boarded the aircraft and said, “This is like the Paradise Theater, it will never leave the ground!” 😂 ✈️
Sounds amazing :)
I flew 2 times on the 747-400 and 1 time on the 747-8
The 747-8 flight was last year and I also departed at gate Z62
Hope you got some nice memories from your trip while watching this Trip Report! :)
I'm looking forward to flying again on the B747!
Thanks!
JAJAJAJ ME HACES REIR, COMES MUCHO
I remember I used to fly with the 747-400 service from FRANKFURT TO ORLANDO DADLY THEY DON'T USE LUFHTANSA ANYMORE
Yeah, they have now Discover Airlines with their A330-300 on that route =/
That's the Emirates font at the end
HI. LOVE ❤️ YOUR CHANEL, THE 👌 BEST. THE OTHER CHANEL " YOU KNOW, THE GUY TALKS TO MUCH!! HE IS ALL IN YOUR FACE!! YOU LET YOUR AUDIENCE VIEW EVERYTHING, VERY PEACEFULL. I WATCH JUST PLANES TO. OH, THE 👦 NAME IS "" JEB"" THANKS AGAIN, FROM US.
haha Thanks so much for the feedback!
Glad that you' enjoy these videos so much! :)
The only thing I hate about airline companies is the fact that they don't allow pets in the cabin!
Well, as far as I know, they allow up to some size and in a cage...
Sorry, I am an aviator that loves animals, Did you know if the dog was ok?
They still fly the 744? I thought they switched to 748 post Covid. Good to know ❤
There is no runway 09C at Frankfurt airport, it's 07C
I know. There is a mistake on the video.
8:31 I'm pretty sure FRA doesn't have runway 09C 😅
1:01 no. Also Air China (-400 and -8), Asiana (-400), and Rosiya (-400)
May be wrong but that didn’t look like the general standard flaps 20 takeoff config?
I don't have any clue about the normal takeoff configuration of a B747.
Max air runs the 747-400 and mahan air from Iran runs the 400 and 300 combi
Thanks for the info :)
Asiana also has a single 747-400 however it will be retired in march
Thanks for nice snaps of Greenland and Arctic. They're amazing. Nevertheless, the service onboard seems poor - especially the second snack and beverage choice. I think there is nothing special in flying LH
Glad that you've enjoyed the video :)
Lufthansa、Korean air and Air China still use 747(-400 or -8) for passengers.
I didn't know about Air China. I guess they are national flights?
@@OnBoardHD Nope,Air China is one of biggest airlines in China and also the Chinese flag carrier airlines.
Most of the footage showing the ground was NOT shot during Christmas time.
Asiana airlines and Air china are also operating the 747. Air china uses the 747 only in china and asiana operates one 744
Flew from London h/row to Hong Kong On a 747 it powered through the air
Thank god finally no "meatless pasta"
It was always there I think...
this was the second flight I got it.
