Jandek sounds like a nice guy who just wants to put out music, doesn't want to talk about himself, and wants people to listen to his music and make up their minds themselves
Jandek's music is hypnotic, especially the early, solo acoustic guitar albums. I discovered him through Irwin Chusid's Songs in the Key of Z book, and bought his first 33 albums directly from Corwood, before he even started selling online, mailed to me in the UK for about 100 Dollars. He lost some of his mystery when he began to play live, but I'll always love him. Good to see the Corwood documentary free on here at the moment.
A friend volunteered at a community radio station in Denver in the 80's. One day he found a box with a dozen copies of Ready For The House in the station's trash.
god trubee talks way too much when he asks jandek about the images he uses in his lyrics. he poses the question in a way that just incorporates too much detail and doesn't leave enough room for a response. apart from that though he's a pretty decent interviewer, he really manages to draw a lot of information out of jandek without making him answer questions that are too personal. i'd only heard the cut version of this interview before (included with jandek on corwood dvd) and that excluded a lot of the parts where jandek talks about his methodology and relationship to his practice and his perspectives on music in general. thank you for uploading the full version : )
Thanks for the comment. I think John did the best anyone could have done at that time, by making the interview more of a conversation. Imagine walking into a phone call with someone who has never given an interview, who may or may not be talkative. If you give a guarded interviewee not enough or too much line, it's likely that they won't be responsive or won't react well. In that light, Trubee did a masterful job.
I don't mind John talking too much, it makes the whole ordeal much less formal and more conversational, I can't see Jandek feeling comfortable with doing a very traditional style interview, at least not around the time this took place.
if you kids wander here, the interviewer made the most important recording of the 20th century but you don't know. don't try to understand. you're not capable.

Jandek has truly mastered the art of the uncomfortable silence
@Richard Trey Yup, been watching on Instaflixxer for months myself :)

Irwin Chusid's book is essential, turned me on to plenty of obscure stuff!

I thought finding one copy was great ❤
Fantastic interview. Trubee asked good questions and made Jandek comfortable enough to open up a bit
Really interesting stuff, and so forth.
John “And So Forth” Trubee
Love how it starts and ends abruptly...just like his music.
jandek, an enigma like no other.
Plot twist: It's not really Jandek, but an actor hired by Jandek to do the interview.
Residents type shit lmao
Interviewer: Now tell me, after you wake up in the morning, what's the first thing you do?
Jandek: Well usually, I go pee.
Interviewer: Ah HA
Bought an album from this guy back in early 80s- tried to communicate to no avail. 50 years from now he might be another Roscoe Holcomb.
How did you find out about him?
Thanks a lot for putting this interview online. Important stuff!
"Oh I like the hard rock."
and so forth
uh huh
That's interesting...

Nervousness and excitement and hoping not to get hung up on.
wow it’s so amazing when he talks about “i knew you would leave”.
That was pretty intense. Maybe the best part of this interview.
What a guy.
That’s fascinating

You Are Here
Dude sounds like Thurston Moore
I can hear it
actually he looks a bit like him, and Sonic Youth's song Winner's Blues sounds a bit like Jandek
If anyone had told me that Jandek was really a side outsider art project of Thurston Moore I probably would have believed it.
That pause…
A-ha!
Uh huh!
top
Nice to know that Jandek likes Tom Petty lmao
Uh huh
Uh huh!
A Ha!
what's the name of the interviewer
