@@HamRadioDX I was interested to know if it would work with the IC-7300 drivers, they are the last quoted for Windows 7. I hate Windows 10 I may just try the ones straight from SILABS website, they are more uptodate than ICOMs
@@4X4-RADIO It seems that the USB drivers for the IC-705 actually have IC-705 written in them, as that is how it appeared in my Device Manager. They may not be different to the 7300, but some trial and error might need to be had. The IC-705 driver may work for Windows 7, but it's not officially supported, only 8.1 and 10.
@@HamRadioDX Many Thanks... I guess I can just try, can always uninstall if the 7300 Drivers don't recognise the 705 I do have a Win10 Laptop, just don't like it... I run Linux, but have a Win7 VM for Windows stuff
Thanks Hayden, this worked on my setup just now. The only difference is that Windows doesn't show me which COM Port is CI-V, so I had to guess. Since there are only 2, it didn't take long, but it works now. 73!
JS8Call and WSJT-X are difficult to configure, erratic, and unstable, by even the most charitable standards. I have the MS Surface 3 and the Evolve Maestro running Windows, and getting FT8 working consistently is erratic, with both a USB direct connection the 705 or WiFi. SDR-Control for the iPad, however, is incredibly stable, and as close to perfection as software can be. Within minutes of first loading it, I was making contacts, and have logged hundreds with it so far. For those Hams who tire of fiddling and just want to make contacts, pick up an iPad or Mac, and try SDR-Control. Its in a class by itself.
Thanks for this! I received a call from a fellow ham to help with getting his new ic-705 working, but I don't have one (but familiar with the 7300). It would have been a bit more helpful to see this done from factory defaults. 73!
Glad I could help and yeah I should've done from factory, but if you ever need to view factory defaults you can long press on a menu button and there is a default button there to compare. 73
Hi Hayden, I notice it has an option for Wireless LAN... maybe that could be the next video? put the radio out in the shed and connect to it over the Wifi maybe : -) Peter, vk5pj
Hi Wade, thanks for the video. 705 cat control is working fine. Any idea about audio settings on both rig and wsjt? I can’t get it configured. Cheers Drew
One issue I'm having is that the USB-D setting reverts back to USB when WSJT-X keys the rig. WHat is the configuration setting to make this "stick?" Thanks OM //73 KK0DJ Dennis
What did you use to connect the IC-705 to the PC? Can it be done with just a USB cable or do you need an interface which connects to the sound card in the PC?
I didn't bother with Split operation as I wasn't going to use it. That said "Either method (Rig or Fake it) will result in a cleaner transmitted signal, by keeping the Tx audio always in the range 1500 to 2000 Hz so that audio harmonics cannot pass through the Tx sideband filter". Thanks
Incorrect. The Mic/USB is set by default. Listen carefully to what I say in the video. I actually prefer to use Data Modes in regular sideband operation, not in USB-D. If you don't wish to accidentally have your MIC in and/or use the USB-D mode exclusively, then the above is correct.
Did you install the 705 Drivers or just use existing 7300 drivers... Thanks
705 drivers available on the Icom Japan website

Thanks. One of the best tutorials for this out there. FYI: I used this video to connect to my MACOS laptop. The basic radio settings are the same. 73
Excellent video instructions. This got me on the air with WSJT-X on my new IC-705 in no time. Thanks Hayden!
You’re welcome Craig
Thank you very much for the video. I have never used an SDR transceiver or any digital modern software and I was able to follow these instructions
Thank you for this tutorial. I am set-up now and the radio is communicating with the computer. Cheers

Works great, thank you again. 😊
Thanks for the video. I used the settings for the IC-9700 you have not tested and they worked :)
Hi! Plz help to solve problem ( WSJT doent recive audio from IC-705. Abosolutly nothing. All settings are right, in audio settings i choose USB input
Beat me to it.... Going to set mine up tonight 👍
Sometimes we can be ahead on other things, not just time 😂👍
This WSJT-X *not* WSJT - not that the video is bad, but the title needs to say WSJT-X. THnx 73, 2E0FWE

Excellent tutorial. thank you for sharing. Worked like a charm.
Glad it helped. Thanks 73
2.5 is the latest version. and now includes the 705. Update your video to include the 750 rig.
Any hope of connecting to the radio over bluetooth or wifi?

Thanks Peter. Yep that is planned! Wireless LAN control using RS-BA1
cheers mate
WSJT-X v. 3.2.0 has now been released, supports some new digital protocols, and the IC-705 !
Very helpful! Thank you
Very Helpful! Thank you! 73

Under the radio settings is the “Mode” set to Data/Pkt? If it’s USB this will be switching it
Thank you but how does the pc control the radio ?
via wi-fi ?
Hi wade, found the setting I was just overdriving the audio
Does the 705 heat up doing WSJT-X?
Settings also work in Omni rig for car control on all omnirig compatable apps
Do you have any advice for fldigi? I am not having any luck
What did you use to connect the IC-705 to the PC? Can it be done with just a USB cable or do you need an interface which connects to the sound card in the PC?
Yes just a single USB cable. No interface required as the sound card is built into the radio
Forgot to ask...
I assume you do not have to undo/back-out any of these changes to just carry on with normal USB Voice Comms..??
Cheers
No, just change the radios mode to USB instead of USB-D

WSJT-X split should always be Rig or Fake it to reduce the chance of TXing any audio harmonics.

windows device manager baud rate - erm that does not matter --what matters is the baud rate that is set in the connectors menu of the radio
Please listen and watch carefully to the video. Baud rate setting does not exist in the connectors menu of the radio.
A great video. Thanks 73 de 4Z5UY
Data OFF mod should be Only MIC.. not Mic/USB
Incorrect. The Mic/USB is set by default. Listen carefully to what I say in the video. I actually prefer to use Data Modes in regular sideband operation, not in USB-D. If you don't wish to accidentally have your MIC in and/or use the USB-D mode exclusively, then the above is correct.
If you set WSJT-X to Data/Packet mode (not USB) the rig will ignore the mic, even if you have MIC, USB selected in the rig MOD INPUT menu.
It was not helpful at all.
He does not cove the issue if you don’t see the icom 705 in the device manager.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
