I had the privilege of watching Willie Nelson perform live in concert in 2009, at the Covelli Center in Youngstown, Ohio. It was a short time after his 76th birthday. Willie Nelson hooked up a microphone on the bottom end of his acoustic guitar, and proceeded to give the guitar performance of a lifetime. He played all of his hit songs, and he sang and performed about a half-dozen Blues songs that night, Nelson's electrified acoustic guitar growled like a grizzly bear, and his guitar playing BLEW ME AWAY! I just wish that there was a videotaped performance of Willie Nelson during that tour. It was clearly some of the best performances of his career.

Thank you for this reaction. My parents loved Willie and he was one of the first artists I saw live with my dad. Tomorrow would've been my dad's 75th birthday. Whenever I hear this song I picture the two of them slow dancing. Willie is actually the one who turned me on to country music and I still love that Outlaw country. Thanks again. I feel like I've gotten a gift from my dad on his birthday. Keep up the great work.
Willie is the most genuine kindest person I've ever had the pleasure to spend in the studio for a whole night of friendship, wonderful music, great food, and laughs. Truly a great time I'll always treasure.
Love, love , love Willie Nelson. This man has the sweetest voice. He could sing names from the phone book and it would sound ahhh-mazing. Please listen to Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain. My all time favorite song. My dad used to sing it to me when I was little and he still does today. He gets out his guitar when I go to see him and the song just brings me to tears. Willie has written sooooo many songs, even for other people. He has quite a history in the music industry.
My Dude that passed away 10 years ago use to sing this song to me all of the time. It was our song. It makes me smile and tear up every time I hear it. The first time I saw Willie Nelson in Concert was 3 years ago and I treats in my eyes when he came on stage, song this song, and when he was walking off stage. So grateful to be able to hear his music and see him live. ❤

Whew. This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. And Mr. Willie Nelson's version just doesn't get much better than this. He truly sings from the heart and is an amazing man. And if we all live and love long enough we'll experience these kinds of moments when we know that when we look back on a former love, former relationship or even in a present relationship, we could've done better. And we want the chance to do better and make it up to our loved one. This song is so powerful even as the lyrics seem so simple. Thank you for another wonderful reaction, digging deep into the heart of it all, love, life and the soul itself. 🤗❤
One of the most beautiful and surreal moments in my life came when I was hiking in the mountains in Thailand outside Chang Mai. I was solo with my guide, Lek, and we passed another group whose Thai guide looked to be about 70 years old. Lek and I stopped to chat for a moment then went on. A few minutes later I heard the most beautiful tenor voice echoing through the mountains -- that elderly tour guide singing "You Were Always On My Mind"!
This song always makes me cry. My dad worked 2 jobs for yrs as there were 7 of us kids. He dedicated this to our mom. He was gone so much and obviously very tired. She passed away 2 weeks before their 50th anniversary.😢
I met Willie back in the 80's on a golf course in LaGrange, Ky. He is the most genuine down to earth human being you could ever meet. He is exactly as you would imagine him. A national treasure.

I love Willie's version, but this will always be Elvis' song to me. He recorded it after him and Priscilla split in February of 1972, and he recorded his version in March of 1972
To be honest, I prefer this to Elvis's version. he just puts better emotion into it. You should consider checking out Clint Black's When I Said I do. It is a gorgeous duet with his wife, Lisa Hartman Black. Love to all.
It is so touching to watch Amber just fall in love when a the lyrics of a song touch her heart ("I guess I never told you, I'm so happy that your mine."). "He's looking back at it, wishing he'd done everything the right way." Don't we all feel that way about so many things.
I was scrolling through the comments to see if anyone would bring up "The elephant in the room" Wasn't it Snoop who said even he couldn't keep up with Willie?
@@nanner3200 Yup, that'd be Snoop. I don't think Jay and Amber wanted to react to the Cheech & Chong Christmas story because of their expertise with mota. Maybe they'd be surprised Willie better at cheechin' out than Cheech himself
Y’all, I saw him at the Houston rodeo a few years ago. He’s getting up there in age, but he still brought it like it needs to be brought. In fact, when he sang this song, he started to cry. You’re right, Amber. He is so kind, and emotional, and he truly feels his lyrics. He is an amazing human being.
Elvis has his own rendition of this. I'm not entirely sure who's came first. But of all of the people who have sang this song, Willie's version is still the definitive one. (This coming from someone who's not fond of country music) Willie's other signature song is "On the Road Again". It's a bit more upbeat.
@@matthewdrake4385 Oooo, you're right. I knew Elvis sang it late in his career, but I always thought Willie's version came soon after. Didn't realize he recorded it in 1982. Apparently over 300 people covered it, but I still feel that Willie's version is the definitive one.
Elvis never released this when he was alive it was recorded during his split with Priscilla, it was released on This Is Elvis album soundtrack for the same titled documentary about him.
Steve, it WAS released when he was alive, but as a b-side to a single for Separate Ways. In fact it was released on a compilation called Separate Ways, in 1972. This is Elvis came out 9 years after his version of Always On My Mind.

A great song writer.
He is an amazing songwriter, but as this song shows, he can take another songwriters work and put out an amazing performance.
As someone who has seen him live several times, the man sounds better live than any recording he's ever done.
On the Road Again is a must.
He also wrote Crazy for Patsy Cline
He wrote “Crazy” , he didn’t write “Always on My Mind”
My Dude that passed away 10 years ago use to sing this song to me all of the time. It was our song. It makes me smile and tear up every time I hear it. The first time I saw Willie Nelson in Concert was 3 years ago and I treats in my eyes when he came on stage, song this song, and when he was walking off stage. So grateful to be able to hear his music and see him live. ❤
"Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain"
"Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground"
"City of New Orleans"
"Riders In The Sky"
Are just a few in his catalog.
Finally!!! Willie is a national treasure ❤️
He's one of my absolute favorites, he's beyond country music. "Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain" is EPIC!!!!
Don't forget his acoustic guitar playing. It's so unique. One of the best guitarists ever.
This song is so beautiful. Here’s another great one by Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris who collaborated to make the most beautiful sounding trio ever. This one’s from their second album togetherua-cam.com/video/Cnieh0Y1V-o/v-deo.html. It will take your breath away. It’s called “High Sierra”. 🎄🌺✌️
Best version…. And original… way better than anyone’s cover…even Elvis’. Glad u all gave him a chance! Happy day after Christmas!
Willie isn't the original for this song. Elvis covered it in 1972 and Willie covered it in 1982.
@@islandgreenstrong yes… Elvis did it before Willie, thanks. Meant to write ‘an’ original meaning Willie’s version sounded so raw and real…
I liked the Pet Shop Boys version
I cannot even imagine a more soothing voice. Today was a wonderful selection of songs.
I met Willie back in the 80's on a golf course in LaGrange, Ky. He is the most genuine down to earth human being you could ever meet. He is exactly as you would imagine him. A national treasure.
Willie is a national treasure.
Willie Nelson was in a supergroup known as The Highwaymen. It includes: Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, and Waylon Jennings, and the synergistic talent of these four stars exploded into a supernova which is The Highwayman. Please have a listen to a song called The Highwaymen by the group The Highwaymen and tell us what you think
Seconded. That's a wonderful song!
Got to see the highwaymen at the old richfield coliseum. Best show ever.
@@bobw2561 I've seen many rock shows at the old Richfield Coliseum. In fact I saw my first rock show in 77 at the Richfield. I was lucky enough to be in the audience when Queen played there. I Saw The Highwaymen in Las Vegas when I was 13 years old. I was on holiday visiting my sister. Are you from Cleveland?

I lost my wife in July, and this song makes me think about all the times I fell short.
You guys should check out the duet he does with his son Lukas in "Just Breathe." Lukas Nelson and the Promise of the Real have some great songs. More towards the rocking side but sounds like a younger version of his dad. Willie also did a duet with Snoop Dogg called "Roll Me Up"
Makes me wonder which one smoked the other under the table, Willie or Snoop. My money's on Willie. :) That being said, you should check out Toby Keith's "I'll Never Smoke Weed With Willie Again".
"On The Road Again" is another side of Willie, and worth your time!
I love Willie's version, but this will always be Elvis' song to me. He recorded it after him and Priscilla split in February of 1972, and he recorded his version in March of 1972
Willy is a national treasure !!!
If you are interested in some of Willie's other duets, Mendocino County kine with LeAnn Womack and beer for my horses with Toby Keith are both amazing
Beer for my horses is classic.
You guys knocking out of the park lately. Blessings to your whole family as we start a new year.
His son, Lukas Nelson, is damn good too. He sounds quite a bit like his dad. Just Outside of Austin and Find Yourself are good ones.
I was gonna recommend Lukas as well. They are very different but have that similar natural feeling sound if that makes any sense.
@@nancyburke8745 That absolutely makes sense.
Saw Lukas and his band live recently. Phenomenal! Worth a reaction. Similar but different.
I've seen Lukas and his band perform twice and they are outstanding!
Love Willie...he's an amazing singer/songwriter, and has lived such an incredible life.
Love Willie!! Such a talented dude!!🤘🔥
Seeing Willie live twice is a highlight in my life so far
To be honest, I prefer this to Elvis's version. he just puts better emotion into it. You should consider checking out Clint Black's When I Said I do. It is a gorgeous duet with his wife, Lisa Hartman Black. Love to all.
It is so touching to watch Amber just fall in love when a the lyrics of a song touch her heart ("I guess I never told you, I'm so happy that your mine.").
"He's looking back at it, wishing he'd done everything the right way." Don't we all feel that way about so many things.
Willie Nelson is "highly" inspiring. He inspired President Jimmy Carter's son to partake in a little toke 🚬💨 on the roof of the White House
Lol yeah they should do Gone to Pot and I'll never smoke weed with Willy again both are hilarious. 😂🙃😉
A true country artist makes you feel they are singing to you personally.
Willie is a treasure and a very under-appreciated musician. A great guitarist!
Elvis has his own rendition of this. I'm not entirely sure who's came first. But of all of the people who have sang this song, Willie's version is still the definitive one. (This coming from someone who's not fond of country music)
Willie's other signature song is "On the Road Again". It's a bit more upbeat.
Elvis version came out a decade before Willie's
@@matthewdrake4385 Oooo, you're right. I knew Elvis sang it late in his career, but I always thought Willie's version came soon after. Didn't realize he recorded it in 1982. Apparently over 300 people covered it, but I still feel that Willie's version is the definitive one.
The Elvis one is pretty good too
Elvis never released this when he was alive it was recorded during his split with Priscilla, it was released on This Is Elvis album soundtrack for the same titled documentary about him.
Steve, it WAS released when he was alive, but as a b-side to a single for Separate Ways. In fact it was released on a compilation called Separate Ways, in 1972. This is Elvis came out 9 years after his version of Always On My Mind.
Love Willie Nelson. I find it interesting how his life experiences are reflected in his songwriting and singing. That emotional connection is evident in his voice and performance. His song "On The Road Again" my family's roadtrip song.
He wrote this classic. Elvis Presley also recorded it
Ironically, Willie didn't write this one and he wasn't the first to record it. It's 100% a cover.
@@scapito I wonder who wrote it then I’ll have to check it out
@@elizabethfranco1284 Wayne Carson, Johnny Christopher, and Mark James wrote the song
@@scapito exactly, he wrote more songs than I realised but he didn’t write this, he also didn’t write 7 Spanish Angels, On the Road Again is probably he most famous song he actually wrote.
@@maverick2242 he was credited for more than 300 songs the last time I checked... no telling how many more he's written since then. This song alone has hundreds of covers... can't remember how many, but recall it was in the triple digits. The songwriters definitely cashed in on this song. Curious if it's been in The Guinness Book. 🤔
I first saw Willie Nelson in 1971 when I was waiting for a job to open up in Brownsville,Tx. My wife and I were staying in San Antonio and there was a local radio station that would announce whenever Willie Nelson and his band were going to give a free concert ar the Helotes general store about 30 minutes away. During the 4 years we were in Texas we saw Willie at least 8 times with each being better than the previous one. He always treated everyone great, rich, poor, white black or brown. What a great and talented guy. Salt of the earth.
Hey guys please listen to ELVIS’S VERSION OF ALWAYS ON MY MIND.
TAKE CARE FROM JOEY FROM THE BRONX
Elvis does a beautiful job but he doesn't sing it with the feeling that Willy does
Angel Flying Too Close to The Ground... One of my favorites, most beautiful songs by Willie.
The word that comes to mind regarding Willy Nelson is genuine. He is true to his style which is soothing. Few can take the edge off as well as a dose of Willy.
So many artist have performed this song but Willie's version is the one that feels like it's straight from his heart.
Beautiful
