    My face changed so much when I got braces. My jaw was more even and my smile looked better. My lips plumped and my cheeks became fuller. I also stopped biting my nails because I couldn’t bite them without hitting my brackets. By the time I could, I had broken the habit. Getting braces was one of the best things I’ve ever done. (Besides the pain)

    The face change was the biggest thing I noticed as well! My face became so much more symmetrical, and for me it actually softened my features because my teeth are now supporting my cheeks where as before my cheeks were more hollow because there was no support!

    Hey. I had braces for 10 years over my teens and then another two years when I was in my 20’s. Obviously don’t go against the advice from your orthodontist but when using your thin bristle brush between the wires be sure to brush away from the gum line so you don’t cause the gums to inflame or recede. I would also recommend that you don’t use mouthwash after brushing because it can remove the fluoride that is on your teeth from your toothpaste, although it may be a fluoride mouthwash, in a liquid form it won’t stay on your teeth for as long. Use mouthwash every time after you eat, instead of water, gets the bits out, freshens your breath and protects your teeth. Nothing will get rid of the stains on your teeth, they may be unsightly to you but they are normal and will all come off when the braces are removed (plus honestly I’m sure you’re the only one who can see them!) You can reduce any future stains if you avoid the obvious like tea, coffee, red wine etc. but it really isn’t necessary to change your entire diet, the stains are temporary. For the reasons you mentioned do steer clear of whitening toothpaste or mouthwash. As your teeth improve you will get thicker and less flexible wires on your braces. For me, this is when I experienced the most cheek discomfort as the tiny bit of wire that sticks out on your very back teeth is so hard and sharp it would rip my cheeks and could be very painful. Be sure that each time they put a new wire on you meticulously feel with your tongue or finger that the wire is as short as it can be and don’t be afraid to ask your dentist to cut it shorter if you can already feel it inside your cheeks (I’m not ashamed to admit that there were occasions when I got a pair of metal cutters and cut the wires sticking out on my back teeth because I was in so much discomfort and I know it would be months before I would see my dentist again! This was an act of desperation so I don’t recommend this but for me it had no negative impact, it just reduced my pain and discomfort so much!)
    Sorry I wrote so much, feels good to share tips from my lengthy experience! Good luck x

      I hope this isnt an intrusive question and you can just ignore me if so! But why 10 years? Like isnt that an excessive amount of time? im glad to hear your teeth are good now!

    • @Bexwizard
      @Bexwizard Рік тому +7

      @@queennut180 ha maybe a little intrusive but I don’t mind. I had serious problems with my teeth, hence the 10 years. At the age of 9 they had to pull out 11 of my baby teeth because they weren’t coming out. They did this in the hope the adult teeth would come through but they didn’t. So my two front adult teeth moved into the spaces on either side where I had no teeth. So first they had to move them back together. And then there was a lot of waiting whilst my adult teeth had to grow through naturally. But then they discovered through an x-ray that I was missing the left incisor, so all my dental treatment from then on had to work around creating an appropriate sized gap so that when it was all finished they could put a cap on my canine to mimic this tooth I didn’t have. They also used fixed braces to attach to my adult teeth as they just started to come through to help pull them down faster. Then once I thought it was all done (18 at this point) the cap they put on pulled my front teeth forward because it wasn’t the right shape or size and didn’t fit correctly in the space. So then I had fixed braces again to pull my front teeth back and had a new cap made that sat inline with all my other teeth.
      So there you go. Suffice to say that my teenage years were very hard and I was bullied a lot for how my teeth looked, high school was not my favourite time. It turned out my mum had many issues with her teeth at my age as the roof of her mouth wasn’t big enough to fit all her teeth, but 50 years ago dentistry wasn’t very advanced and so they tried to reshape the roof of her mouth but she had so much pain and problems with it they had to leave it in the end. So there’s definitely a genetic element. I just hope that hasn’t passed down to my daughter, hopefully she has her fathers teeth as he never had braces and he has fine teeth

    • @Bexwizard
      @Bexwizard Рік тому +6

      Oh and I forgot, also my lower left incisor was coming up on the wrong side of my teeth and there’s no amount of braces that can move teeth from one side of a tooth to another. So as that started to come up they had to remove that straight from the gum and then close the gap it made to pull my bottom teeth next to each other.
      I hope all these details answer your question 👍

    Hey Isabella. As someone who had braces for 5 years, I highly recommend going to a dental hygienist who can show you how to brush your teeth with braces. I had about 3 whole brushes of different sizes (normal, round, and a thin one). I also recommend using a regular water pick instead of traditional flossing. :)

  • @ahlanasaray8845

    I have Invisalign and had similar staining. Per my dental hygienists, check your toothpaste and mouthwash for stannous fluoride - this ingredient can stain your teeth with a yellow/brown look. After I had my four month cleaning and stopped using that particular toothpaste/mouthwash, the stains went away without any whitening. I would definitely recommend checking that!

    I noticed your gums has become a little more drawn upward. And I would be worrid about that Isabella. There was a time in my life where I everyday spit blood after brushing my teeth and my gums became drawn up. I blame my family for saying that was a good thing. Anyways gums do not regrow, ever. It sucks but that's how it is. So be careful not to brush too hard and straight on the gums. Love you Isabella

    I was gonna suggest switching the Ortho toothpaste for a whitening one, glad you're trying that! With the amount of darkening you're having I would not be concerned about "squares" when you take them off, if anything you will have light squares as the parts that were covered by the braces will keep the nice light colour you had before! It's probably worth going for professional cleanings more regularly, you don't want to deal with set-in stains further down the road which will be even more hassle and expense to remove.

    Do you drink coffee or tea? The staining might be from these drinks. You should ask your orthodontist whether it's safe with braces, but for me the best thing for removing stains is brushing my teeth with coconut oil, especially after drinking coffee (I drink 2 a day). I take some on my toothbrush and brush my teeth thoroughly. I spit everything out and brush it again with my regular toothpaste. After doing this daily for a week my brown stains were significantly lighter! Now I do it at least twice or three times a week to maintain it.

    So relatable on all subject matter of this like everyone says here! I have to say your Orthodontist should of given you a bit of glue to stand up on the back of your teeth so you can bite down properly and to stop you from biting down on the braces or any teeth that feels like hitting a funny bone.
    The tightening is like going back to square 1 for me and my experience.
    It gives me headaches, nerve pain in my cheeks, head etc... It is awful - but still thankful I was able to get them to sort out this mess.
    I agree about the brushing teeth thing and water flossing is the best thing you can do for you and your braces.

    So, the issue with the brown bits (at least those directly around the brackets) can be an issue with excess glue absorbing the stains. Apart from those areas, just focus on more flossing because I think healthy gums mean your teeth move faster :)

    I'm getting my braces at 18 on Wednesday and I'm so excited! I'll have them on for 1,5 years but I'm lowkey worried if people will make a big deal out of it, it kinda distresses me because it shouldn't be that deep to get braces as an older teen or adult. I told my friends beforehand so they wouldn't distress me when they first saw my braces and some of them were like super shocked and all. But I'm still excited to get braces because I want my bottom teeth to be straighter and more even. Next step will be trying to whiten them at my dentist's.

    Your fangs are sooo so so so cool! After they took off my braces (I was a charity case) they ground down the only teeth I liked :( my super sharp k9s! They told me afterwards that it was to “make them look straighter” it’s been over 10 years and I still lose sleep over it. I wake up absolutely writhing with.. is it mourning..? They took my bicuspids as well “to relieve crowding” but the back teeth seemed to just shift forward. Especially since they’ve shifted and one of my small molars just lost a filling (resulting in me needing a full on root canal) I feel like I was robbed. The only good teeth I had left were filed and pulled.

    my dentist told me to swish my mouth with water but not brush my teeth because you should always wait 30 minutes after eating to brush your teeth. so swishing water is a great idea but i wouldn’t brush my teeth directly after

    In the morning it’s actually better to brush your teeth after eating or waiting an hour after brushing to eat to allow the fluoride in toothpaste to do it’s thing to protect your enamel. A routine should be flossing->mouthwash->brushing teeth as fluoride should be the last product sitting on your teeth. Also, don’t rinse the toothpaste out with water. Just simply spit as much as you can. Literally did not know this until watching The Bentist on UA-cam.

    Hi! We're supposed to wash our teeth after meals, so at least 3 times a day... with braces you have to spend even more time so please, take it seriously... probably your dentist said its normal because he didn't known of you changing habits... Maybe put some clock alarms everyday after meals so you won't forget! Take care of you ❤

    Try avoiding gum and nuts as when I used to have braces I was warned it’s not good for your braces. The nuts can break them and gum can pull part of the braces loose over time. So be careful.

    I started using an electric toothbrush when I got braces and it changed my life, now years later and I still use it and only it! Also quick little info, when I had braces some days I would wake up and be worried because I could move my teeth with my tongue slightly back and forth like a wobbly tooth, it’s nothing to worry about at the beginning it’s just your teeth are so sensitive that they are moving anyways. Also if you don’t wear your retainer afterwards you will definitely be able to feel your teeth move. A little advice also, try to avoid situations where you could hit yourself in the mouth, it cuts inside and hurts your teeth and gums!! But it’s all worth it the end, don’t worry about the browning, you will be able to get your natural colour back one way or another, I was so worried about lighter coloured squares on my teeth after I had my braces removed but it was all fine as long as you stick to your routine xx

    Isabella, sorry to bother you but, when wearing braces, one should brush the teeth minutes after each meal, except after consuming water. If one tells to a Brazilian dentist that one brushes the teeth circa two times a day, they would genuinely spend an hour explaining how badly you are treating your mouth. Here in Brazil, it is common to brush the teeth in the afterwards of meals to prevent having marks on them and the loss of teeth. Please, take care of your mouth properly, make sure that you are using a toothpaste, dental floss and a mouthwash that combribute nicely to your treatment♡ xxx

      the first sentence is not true. your enamel is way too softened after a meal, one should wait about 30mins before brushing

      @@Sabrina-sx9fl exactly. And it also allows the saliva's buffering effect to do its job of increasing the PH level in the mouth, so its all less acidic

    • @rafaelleduarte
      @rafaelleduarte 3 роки тому +1

      @@Sabrina-sx9fl My comment does not have a precise time in which one should brush their teeth, because one can perfectly brush their teeth somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour after having each meal. But, according to the dentists who accompanied me throughout my long-term treatment, if someone is used to stay hours with a dirty mouth after each meal, they tend to have problems during the treatment with braces. My treatment was a long-term one (to correct my chewing and for aesthetics as well) and I did not have problems at all. My dentists were a bit severe, however I'm grateful they were like this, otherwise my treatment would not have been successful.

      Not everyone has that time to just brush their teeth after every meal. At work I have 30 min lunch brake. I get tea,I have to pee and i have to refill my water bottle. Then I still didn't eat yet. So what I do is I use waterflosser to clean it fast or just use mouthwash and that's it. I use little brushes too between the brackets.
      I've also heard so many times that we shouldn't brush our teeth just after eating, but again I don't have that time to wait 30 min or 1 hour to brush it,my next break is in 2 hours and so on. But I do clean it good. I check so I don't have food stuck between. When my orthodontist put it on the braces she showed how i have to clean it.
