    It doesn't matter how much and you certainly don't have to feel obliged to do it, but it all helps to keep the Channel running.

    Went on a 3 day fishing trip with an old school friend of 55 years. Made my own paste and could not go wrong loads of silvers then a 13 ib 10oz common popped along made my day!

      Thanks Bob. I think I might do a follow up with some more paste, but also with a few alternatives to see how things go.

    I use a paste around a small wafter using a light bomb rod 🙂

      Yes. That's something I want to have a try with too Barbara, although, I don't have any wafters, so it might be with pellets.

    Shot is absolutely vital in my opinion den. I always shot it so the float cocks to the base of the bristle. My reasoning for this is as the float is buoyant without shot it's going to naturally pull out of the paste. Having some shot to neutralize the buoyancy helps this. Another trick this helps with is the biggest carp aren't always caught on mammoth pieces of paste, quite often just enough to cover a size 16.

      I did try shot on a previous aborted attempt Scott. That's how I knew how much shot the float takes. Having tried both, my personal preference is for the no shot method. I didn't have any issues with the hook pulling out so I think we might need to differ on this one. I do agree with you on the size of the paste though. I need to do some more research on that. I might try a tiny piece of paste on a normal rig soon. Hopefully, I won't foul hook so many.

    I 3d printed some open-ended cones for paste seem to have worked quite well I often put a pellet on as well so if the paste has fell off, I still have a bait there for them?

    Also if having trouble with your paste not holding on use half of a Biro spring turned down the shank through the eye of the hook........ sloppier the better.

    • @FishingwithDen
      @FishingwithDen  5 місяців тому

      Thanks John, but I'm not sure I want to have a fish swallow the bait and ingest a spring mate.

    No shot down the line.....use a small piece of tungsten tube right below the float so when bait comes off the top of the floats body pops up.
