'Canal Street Blues'. This was composed by Joe 'King' Oliver in 1923. Oliver recorded it with KING OLIVER'S CREOLE JAZZ BAND in Richmond, Indiana, on 5 April 1923. Among Oliver's musicians on that date were Louis Armstrong, Johnny Dodds and Lil Hardin. As you can hear, it's a simple tune with just two themes - both of them 12-bar blues in the key of F. 'Directing the traffic' in this video, Marla makes a good job of injecting variety and interest.
@@shurshot2764 I wouldn't say so -- usually the problem in medium-to-large jazz bands is that I can't hear the piano most of the time, but here it sounds about right.
