I remember my friend played this for me in 1972. There were still a lot of folk singers around back then but John Prine was different. His stories were funny, smart, relatable and unpretentious. For me he was everything Dylan *wasn't* . RIP John Prine...you'll never be forgotten.❇
Instead of the "new Dylan", he was sort of the anti-Dylan. Dylan was a hero, but I don't think Prine could have written cynical songs to save his life. I think empathy is the key word in his music (Sam Stone, Hello in There, and perhaps most of all, Unwed Fathers,)perhaps his most under rated song.
@@lincolnmaceachern2410 “Jesus died for nothing, I suppose”....is about as cynical as cynical can be. But...generally speaking I completely agree with you. The name of the songwriting game is Empathy. And Prine had it coming out of his ears.
This is great. Todd does this on the new Prine video tribute and it's the best of any of the songs... and that's saying a lot. My respect for Todd and John grows daily.
That's jazz. Oh man. And what a perfect song for Todd to play. How bout " I want me some.. " great place to personalize John's song when we're around the campfire. Thank you.

You could have left out the part about Dylan.
