UFC 140: Jones vs. Machida was a mixed martial arts event held by the Ultimate Fighting Championship on December 10, 2011, at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
At UFC 140, Jon Jones overcame what was at the time the most difficult opponent of his career to choke out Lyoto Machida late in the second round and retain his light heavyweight title.
Jones was tested like he has never been tested before and passed with flying colors. In the first round, Machida found openings in Jones' stand-up and charged through them forcefully. The Dragon appeared to win the round.
He had never been hit hard in the cage, and with apologies to Matt Hamill had never cleanly lost a round. All the uncertainty about how he would fare in the proverbial deep water can be considered resolved.
Jones regrouped in the second round, scoring a takedown and opening Machida's forehead with an elbow. Soon after, Jones locked in a standing guillotine choke. When he released the choke, Machida fell to the mat in a heap, and another one bit the dust.
Man, the way Jones just let him fall like a dead body ...Lyoto on the ground in the awkward position with his eyes open but empty.... I remember all of it, the whole thing was so shocking and perfect in a way ...
That was the most brutal choke I've ever seen and he just drops him
You expected JJ to stop and cradle him afterwards? The ref told him to stop and he stopped. These guys bounce off the cage floor all the time.
The drop is my favorite part lol
The way he just walks away with a man nearly dead...no fucks given!!
Fucking savage.
This was worse than a clean knockout.. it was almost like he was trying to take his life and the way the body fell looked like he did. Chilling
His soul left his body for a second
Choke out. Not a knock out
@@ozoneswiftak did I say this was a knockout??? Fool. I said it was worse than a knockout. Read properly before you try to act clever and correct people!
@@AS-pug being choked out is definitely not worse than being knocked out lol
@@kane1748 no but with most knockouts you still know they’ll be ok but the way jon choked him out it literally looked like he killed him that’s why it was so scary compared to a one punch ko
One of the most meanest brutal finishes in ufc history
Very cold how he walks away. This guy is a killer.
The scariest submission in combat sports History.
Not even close
@@jimkane9832 that was pretty dope. You don't see too many successful standing chokes. Took awhile for Lyoto to wake up too. Definitely a top 10 submission.
I dont consider chokes even close to being the scariest subs, most defo its something like a tight Kimura kneebar or armbar something that causes a pop.
@@tarci2994 one reason why chokes like this are scary is because it’s harder to tell when the loses consciousness. Because if you hold a choke too long hold you can kill someone. People can feel when their limbs are broken. Someone you can even hear it happen. But chokes are quiet and sometimes hard to see. That’s why refs will grab their hands. If they feel no pressure they’ll stop the fight. Good chance Lyoto was unconscious 4-5 seconds before the ref even realized
the calmness when he walks away is the coldest shit ever
He went through all the tops 🥶
dropped the body like a corpse lol
hell yeah man, I thought the same, never saw this fight before.. that was cold as fuck at the end. He went from adversary to killer, absolutely destroyed that guy
That's your average Psychopath in Florida after committing homicide.
Greatest submission stoppage in MMA history
Even the great Lyoto could get brutally choked out cold that was a ruthless choke hold
The way Jon walks off as he drops his lifeless body to the floor is badass
Please grow up.
@@YZFR1is shut the fuck up pussy
Think he felt bad about that.. Walked over to check on him afterwards which was cool IMHO..
Lifeless hahaha

For real, everyone who fought Jones was never the same again.
Jon entered the UFC only 9 months after he was introduced to MMA, began fighting world class elite fighters and demolishing them non stop…different type of athlete but man I just wish he’d get his act together. His sociopathy makes him have a lot of irresponsibility and risk taking behavior.
i hope he keeps his speed
Idk why no one's talking about Machida outclassing Jones in striking completely
the guy with the karate background since a kid vs a wrestler. Kinda expected lmao
Probably because in the end, it was all about that Guillotine. Nite Nite
But he's sleeping .. set him up and ate him alive .. the striking doesn't mean sh** when he was smacking him with the elbows ..
NITE NITE!
@@Rkatek Jones wasn't smart enough to take the win on his own

This remains one of the most talented matchups in MMA history
this is one of the coldest finishes in the ufc, jon literally took his soul out for a minute
seriously. Jon looked like he sort of felt bad (just a little) for choking him out completely
@@paulwalnuts3249 bruh, he literally dropped him like a sack of potatoes... Had he felt bad he would've put him on the ground slowly xD I think
@@lets_lvl_up My dear dead people belong to the ground and under the ground. Machida died!!
@@lets_lvl_up what fighter have you ever seen put their opponent on the ground slowly after they choke them out? Come on now. Those guys were trying to knock each other out long before then, and Lyoto has legit one-punch knockout power.
They aren't concerned with hitting the mat when they're choked out. The mat is their playground. I'd agree with you if JJ body-slammed him while he was choked out.
As well, Lyoto should've tapped if he were that concerned - instead, he pulled a YOLO and got CTFO.
This was like watching Batman get his back broke
Got to give props to Machida as well. The man would rather go unconscious before tapping. Thats badass as hell
It's very hard to tap if you are already sleeping🤣🤣🤣
@@mxbblife_mu also very easy to tap before you fall asleep
@@novaa492 badass comment
He almost died.
@@novaa492 He never thought he could sleep real quick 🤷😂😂
That might be the scariest ufc moment ever
This fight has elite fight iq from both guys...Lyoto is the 1st man to ever win a round against Jones by countering Jones' leg kicks with punches...Jones adjusting on the fly by feinting that low kick and throwing and overhand to knock him down
The casual walk away after bringing someone that close to death 😳🥵
Lyoto was a special fighter
.....a _special fighter_ who nearly died face down on the canvas.

Man thanks God that John mccarthy is the ref in that fight, if Steve mazzagati or mario yamasaki was the ref in that fight machida would have died 100% with their slow reactions.
4:07 Bro was aware that he had just made the coldest finish in history
At the end, they announced Jones as winner by submission. Well maybe technically. But the Dragon never submitted, or tapped as they say. Rather he was choked unconscious, and damn near dead. If that's not a KO, I don't know what is...
Boi got his ass beat
@@toonzonly-7955 yepper!!
that lightning quick elbow to the face dropped Machida. too fast he didn't see it coming.
Can’t wait for the return this guy was fucking lethal

Machida tagged jones a few times and it really pissed him off. That choke was a different level of vicious
This man is like Darth Vader 😂unbeatable and draws power from the dark side
Machida was the first fighter to put Jones in any kind of trouble and it wouldn't be until Gustafsson a couple years later until it would happen again. Prime Machida was a master tactician.
В итоге оба получили .
@@Artur-i4f aga, kak tvoya mamka ot bomjei
What trouble?😂
Jones could have easily killed Machida if nobody was around to stop him. Machida got knocked out and then chocked out. Jones left Machida as helpless as a baby 👶.
Well no shit sherlock. That happens to anyone that does not tap to a choke hold.
@@AlexZander688Hey smart ass, if you haven't noticed yet Machida never had the chance to Tapout. It was lights out before Machida could even Tapout. Open up your eyes @AlexZdumbass. Machida never had a chance Tapout. Maybe you should get choked out after you have already been beaten to sh*t, and let see if you would able to Tapout. Machida got rocked so badly even before he got choked. Machida basically was knocked out 2 times in a matter of seconds. @AlexZdumbass you know absolutely nothing dude.
If Lyoto had remained as careful and cautious as he was in the first round, he would have won by unanimous decision

The most difficult fight that jon ever had. according to him.
Dominick Reyes totally whoop John's ass
Yeah it's Lyoto's LIFE of Karate/Kickboxing reactions vs Jon Jones Prodigy/Genius/Learn on the first try gift.. Something had to give, and it was Lyoto's age, smaller size, and lower grappling prowress that were the deciding factors

This was the most dangerous jones, a young and hungry jones
Gotta give it to Machida for beating Jones in strikes despite reach disadvantage. Jones' trump card was always his spinning elbows. It drastically changes the fight and defense against it has not been studied much because nobody else had used it as effectively as Jones. His first fight with Gustafsson was an example of this. Machida was already broken because of the elbows by the time he got choked. Jones' elbows are his most dangerous weapons.
Can’t nobody deny the GOAT OF MMA!!!! Baddest man on the planet!! JON HOLYBONES JONES!!!!
Some people really try to say DJ is the goat lol
Machida is already old when this fight happens. Machida now is a shadow of himself 10 years ago.
Very strategic move by Jones faking the leg kick and landing a punch up top.
Bro the way machida fell to the floor😳😳😳😳
That's pure representation of Blk on Blk violence that goes daily in the hood.
@@Tate525 of course it is,😂🤙✊🏿🤡
Cyril probably watched this video and Didn’t want same fate so he tapped so quick.
Lyotos soul left his body with that choke
Machida was winning in the standin up..good atack and defense...but in the ground, that elbow in the face and the clinch were the key for winning jones

I always refer to this fight when people say Francis can beat Jones. If Jones still has those elbows, Francis will experience cutting so bad when they fight, it won’t be good🩸. There’s not enough time in the world for Francis to become as good of wrestler & grappler as Jones. Coming off an Injury and facing a warmed up Jones (if he takes the Stipe fight), spells disaster for Ngannou.
That’ll be a legendary fight, you could say the same about jones, he hasn’t been hit as hard as Francis could he take even 3 or 4 hooks 😅
@@Hungryrain45618 Francis doesnt beat Jones. Francis never even hit Ciryl clean and got outstruck. Try to wrestle with Jones then……🔪 🩸
francis so heavy and big jones cant move him and all i takes is one punch.
Choked him out like Bruce Lee did Chuck Norris with the cat watching
That wasn't a submission, that was a KO.
I have not seen one fight where Jones' opponents look like they've had a facial reconstruction accompanied with looking like they just got out their graves... this man was a cold hearted killer his prime.
Still is
One of those fights which pops into my mind, got imprinted forever…Jon’s coldness at the end is unforgettable
most savage finish to date.
Killer instinct right there.
Bro said Nop men don’t tap we pass out
Lyoto engrossou o caldo, mas jones é imoral. a envergadura dele aliada a saber manter a distância é imoral!
Ciryl Gane watched this video for sure before his fight against jones and so did not want to take any chances and tapped out quickly
The talent on these fighters gives me chills
Lyoto em pé tá trocacao foi superior
Machida era muito bom de jogar fora da envergadura do oponente, mesmo o Jones com esse alcance absurdo sofreu com essa tática do Lyoto
O cara era muito bom
Jon Jones: Lyoto was my favorite growing up
Also Jon Jones: completely chokes all the air out of Lyoto and drops him like a sand bag
And this is how you know jones is a menace
He said with his whole chest hes his favorite and proceeded to try and mortal kombat execute him anyway
Remember watching this live. Scary choke
the way lyoto collapsed...scary
I was thinking that Cyril might beat him but then I remember this fight. Jones is the goat
@nishu23gupta it’s completely INDISPUTABLE now
Cyril beat who brother 😂
If cyril didn't tap out this will be the outcome
Yeah but knowing MMA community if he will lose against stipe everyone will forget his accomplishments and he will no longer be the goat
