I feel like the most fascinating thing about Jones' striking is the awkward timing. Most fighters have a rhythm they strike with, whether theyre throwing combos or just single shots. Jon seems to throw punches with weird timing, though, effectively disrupting any flow or rhythm his opponents might enter
Just about every strike comes immediately after some kind of feint or other deceptive motion. He's just so smooth with them too, probably really hard to read in the ring
You never know what weapon of his arsenal is coming either like it could be a kick to the knee, body or head, or a spinning elbow, jab, knee to body etc.
This was and still is the most talent rich matchup in combat sports history. They are both complete fighters with almost no weaknesses. The matchup and overall skill still amazes me.
Honestly both one of their best fights and the love for the game at the end was beautiful when that kick to end it was literally as brutal as it cudve been
I feel like deep down Jones isn't trying too beat his opponent, It seems like he's trying too really kill him not just beat them. Killer Instinct too brutally beat someone is one thing, but Jon is just using everything possible too utterly destroy his opponents. And its amazing.
This is why I loved Jon Jones, his techniques, his styles, his skills, etc! The compilation of these make him the best ufc fighter I ever respected! U’re the best Jones!
Jones setup that head kick beautifully. The first two rounds he was digging to the body and then…BANG, DC dipped into it. Similar scenario to Usman and Edwards.
Jon's whole strategy was to set up for that head kick even though DC fought well over the first two rounds and arguably won them...he was hitting him with leg kicks and body kicks to condition DC to defend those kicks to he can leave his head open for that kick .
Two things here: 1- The insight from Dom at 1:34 here was Jones's gameplan. 2-Jones could have just abused his reach advantage here considering he's at a level of wrestling that can match DC's,so no threat of takedowns as well. But he actually is willing to take calculated and sometimes reckless risks, which is when he was getting uppercuted to hell. Whereas there are some fighters who just abuse their reach advantage after talking all the shit, and then talk shit about the fans who complain about their style. I am looking at you jizzy and his fans
I’m a hard Izzy fan and i literally started thinking you were speaking about him before you mentioned it. So yeah maybe Izzy’s actions have caught up to him now, as Periera cancels out his biggest advantage
@@leboblack Yeah , even I think so too. Some people have been commenting that Izzy is just going to jab, kick and run. Like how? If he throws naked leg kicks at alex, alex is gonna change stances to southpaw and use his jab, since he has the reach to attack Izzy. And further, alex is a mile ahead kickeboxer when compared to adesanya, remember that the two times they fought he har barely had 12 or so fights, then he went on to be a kickboxing great at Glory as two weight champ whereas Izzy quit kickboxing after the knockout. Also, Izzy crumbled when Jan, a fighter that had similar range and reach, started checking his leg kicks, like isn't alex gonna do the same. I see this fight as a suicide mission for Izzy unless he somehow becomes a dagestani in 3 months.
So in other words John took risks that DIDN'T pay off because he was getting clipped by uppercuts and had to resort to his advantage (length and striking) to eventually win. Sounds about right. Last I checked, DC actually pressured John, unlike Jared that basically did nothing. What was Izzy supposed to do? Wrestle? . . "Jizzy" lol, at least be more creative.
With all the beef and hate Jones and DC had for each other they still touched gloves before each fight , that goes a long way with respect in the fight world Still hurts seeing DC cry like that

So impressive to see John act that way in the end. He felt sorrow for DC all he could look at was him after the fight and you can see in johns eyes he was also heartbroken. Very sportsmanlike
I hate Jones with a passion, but yeah. I agree. You could legit see him feel genuine sorrow and maybe even a little bit of regret for how he acted (despite DC also going at Jon’s neck). He has a ton of bad moments, and he may be poised as a sociopath, but I really do think that deep down inside Jones is a good man.
He didn't fucking care trust me. DC is a great humble guy and forgave JJ but JJ still taunts DC over the years just like he did when he was mocking DC when he cried after Miocic's fight. He's a psycho. The thing is when Jones will considerate himself too weak to continue, he'll retire cause he is smart, I think he doesn"t want the fight against Ngannou.
@@sebastianoflament9012 john gave him respect and gave him credit where it was due at the interview in the octagon. At the end of the day that shows he cared. True fighters realize that there is such glory in winning, but they also realize such agony in losing and many are able to recognize that agony in a defeated opponent even in the midst of celebrating victory.
That kick was crazy. You would think DC could defend the kick but it’s so swift that it was over after that.
It’s cuz Jon was that oblique kick so dc was expecting that but Jon went high
Yea DC saw a knee and went to grab it. Jones used a karate kick, knee up, then extended the leg to a high head kick. Bones jones would still win today but at heavyweight I'm not sure.
DC messed up he was combing JJ legs for hair instead of trying to block it, watch in slow mo, no one block a kick like that..... it was a fail block.

I feel like the most fascinating thing about Jones' striking is the awkward timing. Most fighters have a rhythm they strike with, whether theyre throwing combos or just single shots. Jon seems to throw punches with weird timing, though, effectively disrupting any flow or rhythm his opponents might enter
It’s called telegraph punching her does not great but he does it why it’s weird
Just about every strike comes immediately after some kind of feint or other deceptive motion. He's just so smooth with them too, probably really hard to read in the ring
check jiri prochazka if u want to see random punches without timing and still effective

Jones setup that head kick beautifully. The first two rounds he was digging to the body and then…BANG, DC dipped into it. Similar scenario to Usman and Edwards.
That kiss on the back of DC's head melted my heart. In the end, everything stays in the ring.
Jones is an exceptional fighter but DC did have a disadvantage of age and height. He was pushing 40 here and his arm reach was a foot lesser.
Jon's whole strategy was to set up for that head kick even though DC fought well over the first two rounds and arguably won them...he was hitting him with leg kicks and body kicks to condition DC to defend those kicks to he can leave his head open for that kick .
Jon showed his humble and mercy in final episode. Respect , you are a good man.
Two things here:
1- The insight from Dom at 1:34 here was Jones's gameplan.
@@cmpunk500 yeah for sure it’s a scary one for Izzy, maybe he can surprise let’s see
