I was born in the East end of London, in Bethnal Green, my Grandmother used to clean for the Krays, I have a photo of me as a baby on Ronnie Krays knee as my Grandma took me cleaning, when my mother was ill.
At Christmas we would get a hamper courtesy of the Krays, which went on for many years.
It wasn’t until the 1970’s that I realised how dangerous they can be, but as my Grandmother said, “The East end always closed ranks”, and looked after each other.
My Grandmother died in 1995 in Tower Hamlets and at her funeral, I was introduced to a number of Uncles, I never knew I had, apparently they had been helping her majesty being rehabilitated.
It’s amazing what you learn about your family.
This episode brought a lot of those memories back.

Born in east end. In a pub Crown and Sceptre know as the Jug House. It's now a Chicken Halal take away. We did not pay anything to the Kray gang but they were always there to help my Nan. East end was a tough place to grow up but much safer than it is now.

As a father of identical boys. I laughed my ass off at the narrator saying something they did made them have a close bond. There is no closer bond out there than identical twins. They don't need any help with it. They come out of the womb that way. And it's a rare occasion that identical twins do not have a bond that incomprehensible by other people. It's hard to even understand, and I see them day after day. They don't even have to speak to one another many times.

Descendants of the family unfortunately have colossal egos because of these two.
My grandmother worked the taxis taking children to verious special schools, two of which were memebers of the kray family and they were vulgar kids who spat and swore at my grandmother and threatened her, they loved bringing up that they uncles were the kray twins which made them better than everyone else...
The big burly taxi driver who worked with my grandmother often told the two little thugs on multiple occations that this is swansea wales, nobody gives of toss who the krays were or who their Descendants are as their gang empire and power disappeared like a toxic fart in a hurricane when they went away....

In our class at school the was lots of varnished over initials carved into the old single pupil wooden ink well type tables we used, mixed with the new 2 seater desks that were just arriving. In Our house masters office was a desk he let you look and touch at if you won 5 credits. The desk had the initials " RK" etched into it. Our school was Daneford Boys School where the Krays had attended and we boys were in awe of that desk. What is even more surreal to me is, Micky Flannagan the comedian was in my class. And when I saw an old school mate from primary/secondary school in Hoxton market who told me he was a mini cab driver but was going to be a professional boxer and did I want tickets, I politely declined thinking it was B.S. The boxer was Michael Watson. Then I spent my youth thieving with the Mickey Blue-it crew and run a pub for a south London gang, the Tibb's. My life was a quiet one compared to many others. An era never to be repeated and a time without modern technology where everything was possible. If you had the bollocks to do it.

Excellent documentary! I was a child when the Krays met their end and, at the time, they seemed just a couple of gangsters who had come to the end of the road. Obviously the reality was completely different: they were a serious danger to many people. I think the evidence overall was that they were great manipulators, even down to "charity" fund raising, benefitting greatly from this and , when in prison they were treated differently and profited from books and interviews, which they never should have done.

The Krays were so powerful in their prime that they would tell the judges which defendants to convict and they would tell tabloid editors which stories they were allowed to put on the front page. On one occasion they told John Lennon to write a song called 'Paperback Writer' because Ronnie fancied himself as a novelist. 'Hey Jude' was written for Ronnie and Reggie's mum as a birthday present from Ringo Starr.
The Krays also fixed the scoreline for the World Cup Final in 1966 which is why England scored 2 goals in the last minute of the game.
The Krays even ordered President John F. Kennedy to visit the UK in June 1961 and he did as he was told.
The only reason the establishment turned on The Krays is because Prince Phillip and Prince Charles wanted a foursome, but Ronnie and Reggie turned them down because while Phillip had a massive wanger, Charles is hung like a grain of rice.
If Charles wasn't hung like a hamsters tongue, then history would have been very different.

Who screwed your head up with the idea that an American president gave a damn about what the Krays thought? What a joke. They had no pull in America as Cosa Nostra would have put them 6 ft under. And Cosa Nostra is responsible for Kennedy getting in as president. You do realize that you are going to be putting this information in front of adults right? I mean I understand that most people on UA-cam are uneducated clowns but seriously?
