The only legit reason an HDMI cable should cost $1000 would be that it's long enough to connect your device to a TV in another state.
i don't understand jokes......
HDMI and basically any cable outputting from a pc is direct current - DC, and DC is bad for moving electricity for more than a kilometer
EDUIT: YES I UNDERSTAND NOW STOP WOOOOSHING ME
The joke is that there’s no good reason it should cost $1000
@@subscribeordiefukyou I can tell you don't understand jokes, there's no reason an HDMI cable should cost over $10 bucks for 3 feet of length.

Honestly everything they've done, from using purer copper, silver and gold plate, to using a twisted wire layout does improve the signal conductivity of the cable. However given the fact that this is still a digital cable, it will give absolutely 0 benefit.
In an analogue cable though these techniques do legitimately improve performance, though that may only be noticeable by instruments and not by personal observation.
Source - Radio Operator and technician.
these kinds of cables in a long analogue signal chain would make an audible difference. studio setups would benefit hugely.
Would it be a huge benefit, probably not. Could conductive purity have a noticeable benefit? It could. I mean, if money is no object then yes, but the vast majority of music studios are run like businesses and there's much better places to invest equipment money than on such cables.
Evil bred top end studios usually spend £100+ each on cables. cabling degrades the signal, and it all adds up. so in long signal chains, high end cables make all the difference. sony and other big companies could easily afford to make and implement something like this.
Certain studios for sure. But not every musician records in the same studios as Taylor Swift. Most studios have to be judicial with their investment dollars.
Evil bred that's totally irrelevant.
all professional studios use high quality cables. if a certain level of studio can benefit from the technology and use of materials demonstrated here, that alone is enough reason for it to exist.
bear in mind that if a reputable sound company made analog cables using the same materials and similar internal structure, it would be much cheaper and would get rid of unnecessary things like the carbon fiber.

The price the copper should be changed out for gold.
They really are going for hypothetical top quality, so silver makes more sense. It's more conductive than gold is. Pure silver is actually the "gold standard" as far as conductive wiring is concerned.

Hey LinusTechTips team, just wandering if you gave any thought to the manufacturer going after you for defamation? Some companies are jerks. I'm not saying that claim would have any merit, I'm just curious since everybody likes to sue anybody for anything now a days.
+twpetry I created a test to determine if the superior conductivity (which I never denied it has) makes a difference in the real world to its ability to overclock a monitor and it doesn't. Not really much else to say here. If they want to sue me for saying something untrue they will have to prove their cable makes a difference, which they know they cannot, so...
+twpetry You can't "just sue" for defamation. Before having their day in court, they'd first have to prove that their claim has any basis in reality. Linus didn't say that the cable will literally give you cancer and kill your puppy, he said "I did this test, it didn't help". What would there be to sue for? Either you don't know the definition of defamation or you don't understand the court system, or both.
+LinusTechTips Linus, I'm 99% sure your monitor was the bottleneck here. For example, a 144 hz 1440p monitor might not be able to hit the target refresh rate with a $%^^ cable. Therefore, I disagree with your testing methodology. However, in 99% of real world use, $%^^ cables work just fine. In the past though, I do remember people having issues with display corruption in longer runs with certain cables, especially poorly shielded ones. I have to presume that part of this "helix" design is to vastly improve shielding, so a cable like this might actually "save your ass" like RED cables (which are braided) have done in the past. - BeepBeep2 @ XtremeSystems
+Sam Conrad (tehvillageidiot) it was a REAL WORLD test. On the website, it is stated that the cable exceeds the HDMI 2.0 standard which carries 4k at 60fps. £1 cables do exactly the same. The cable is overpriced, that's it, with no significant (if any) real world differences. HDMI is a digital connection and cannot benefit from the excess bandwidth unless a new standard is released, there is no need to even do any more testing because the cable, for its use, can buy like 600 other HDMI cables that do exactly the same job. The cable is going to be able to carry much more data than either side will need, so of course there is a bottleneck which doesn't make a difference for its purpose
+Sam Conrad (tehvillageidiot) i'm 99 percent sure the cable is just an overpriced pace of shit that would serve better being melted for the original materials then actually being used.
whats next
a $1000 VGA cable?
Actually VGA cables would see a benefit from premiun cords and peices because unlike HDMI it is an ANOLOG interface which would actually be interesting to see.
no a $1,000 hvi cable
$1000 scart cable
That actually would make a difference, as scart is an analog signal, no?
Exactly what TheDandi said. Digital cables are either 1 or 0 in data (on or off), while analog cables rely on voltage changes from for example 0-200mV. This means that shielding is important, or else this voltage would be changed by magnetic interferrence from equipment or power cables.
You can build a perfect 1080p gaming pc at this price lol
***** maybe
***** But i think u will need abit more for normal/smooth 4k gaming, however a 1440p one is possible to build
Oakf _ Hell, maybe even a 1440p monitor. r5 1500x and 1070 could fit in $1000
That top cable is $10,000. You can build a super computer that would be future proof for the next 20-30 years at that price.
Even the most expensive setup :laughs: You can get so much with that money, including screens, input controllers, 4x Titans and such ^^

+Andrew Barton Fucking comment stealer...

I would like to take you up on that deal, as I'm currently one short xD
It is a waveguide. As such it doesn't matter much what the conductor does, but how the medium where the EM waves travels behave (ie the *plastic* dielectric between the conductors and the geometry of the conductors). Also it's quite important that the impedance of the cable waveguide exactly matches the impedances of the connectors so you get no reflections. Having better conductivity only helps with resistive losses, allowing for longer lengths.
Where is episode 2?! You complain about having run out of ideas, while this video has over 2.3 million views.

And here I was going through life thinking 40-50 bucks for an HDMI was insane. How young and innocent I was 10 minutes ago.
Many expensive audio cables are worse than cheaper ones because they have higher capacitance. Edit: This cable uses the same dual conductor design that causes it. Higher capacitance, but increased immunity to rf, which isn't a problem in digital signal cables.
Even the $60 Monster cables at Best Buy are shit. I can't believe that anyone buys those and yet they do! All the best buy employees are trained to use fancy lingo to tell you that the cable is better. It's not. If you spend $7 on an HDMI on Amazon, you'll be better off than the monster or rocketfish cable.
It's why I just buy the Amazon Basics cables for everything I need which they make.
Even better is they offer deals on them, like 1 10' HDMI cable is $7, but you can get the 2-pack for $9-$10.

My favorite are the $400 power cables. Like the 3 feet of unobtanium wire is going to make a difference when there is probably 70 miles of crappy copper (edit: and aluminum conducters reinforced by steel, because people are pedantic.) cable between your outlet and the power plant...
Aluminium, not even copper, but that is a bit more complicated story of why it doesn't really matter. Only if you have some sort of UPS device it would matter and tbh, it doesn't matter. Oh, and the "crappy" copper in wiring is one of the purest coppers you will ever come in contact with btw.
@@s0ulshot I dunno, I knew some pretty pure coppers when I used to work the over night shift at my local family restaurant.
Actually, power cables do work and one can hear that change without problems :-) Why does it matter? I don't have enough knowledge to explain that. Partially, probably because noise filtration done in amps' power supplies are far from ideal (and noise from power grid can affect audio signal in your source/amp etc.), but there might be more to that. Don't expect though, a 1000 dollar power cable will make a 200 dollar audio system sounding like a $$$$$ high-end system. It's more like this way - having a medium to high end system, with standard power cables, will not sound as good as it could with a better noise filtration (done by power cables and power conditioners).
@@mareklesniak8768 Looks like Marek drank the crazy coolaid, lol. Expensive power cables dont do dick for the sound, even for super high end stuff. Why do you think the high end manufacturers dont bother including a high end cable with their equipment? Because they know it doesn't make a difference! Ive even contacted a few directly and they just laughed at my question, the answer back is always the same "no it doesn't make a difference"
@@wibblewobble1934 Expensive power cables don't do dick for audio ever. A $75 furman power conditioner is all I've used for my audio equipment. If you have trouble with your cable, buy a better one, but don't spend more than $10 on it!
HDMI cables are for digital signal, that means there is no difference if you buy 2$ cable or 1000$ one. Only for analog signal the cable would make any difference.

As a metrologist, the only time you need ultra expensive cables is for high precision power measurements. You will never see a difference in person with standardized cables like HDMI.
This why I buy all my cabling from monoprice. No muss, no fuss and lots of savings.
Bruce Jenner I buy mine from the cheapest chinese retailer I can find online :)
Zotar I'd rather pay the extra dollar and have somewhere that will refund/exchange it in the off chance it breaks or doesn't work.
The chinese are usually pretty good with replacing broken things as long as you provide picture proof and if they don't answer paypal returns the money. It's a bit of hassle though so I get your point of view.
Bruce Jenner is this a plug
My last monoprice cables have been super disappointing. I'm done with them.
How likely is it that this business is a front for money laundering?
paytyler 0% chance. Cash intensive small businesses are used as fronts for money laundering. Money laundering is exactly what it sounds like, taking dirty money (earned illegally) and "cleaning" it. The cash business claims that the money was earned from a non prove-able service being provided, reported as income for the business, allowing the money earned illegally to be undirected when deposited into banks.
Maybe not money laundering but there could be some shady business deals that explain the existence of these ridiculously over-priced cables.
It's not completely useless. It can still be used as a hdmi cable.

When I saw the title, the first thing I thought without seeing the video was "$1,000 for an HDMI cable? Must be made by Apple."
Like buying a gold-plated garden hose
This cable upgraded my tv resolution from 1080P to 8k, also grew my 20" screen into 80"
The most amount of money I've ever spent on a HDMI cable was £17.
Not something to be proud of.
Funny story,
when HD first became commercial my parents spent £70 on a HDMI cable. Yes, I'm serious.
TruckSimz I've never bought an hdmi cable. If something that needs an hdmi cable download come with one, i just use my xbox cable.
17??wow...easy there big spender...i never went past 9.99
Short Fuse The one I bought was very long and flat cabled, and I really needed one like that so I just bought it.
I dont think you people understand. This cable is well worth the price tag. They use high quality digital materials to make sure the 0s it transmits are extra round, and the 1s are extra pointy and oney
"Efficient paths for electromagnetic energy" Sounds like they literally looked up conductor in the dictionary
I've seen gold plated optical cable...
Wow, now that's a new level of stupid
I've seen a bike with a popped tyre in a store so I went up the guy to ask how much it costs. he said 1499$ WHAT THE FUCK
I know right those idiots should've made it silver for better conductivity everyone knows that...
I found a "prenium" cable with such a ridicolus markdown (it was cheaper than the non-"prenum" counterparts).
Since i am kinda obsessed with optics, i bought it.
I tested it and a no-name cable by putting them near a light and seeing how bright the light was at the other end.
I litteraly found no differnce, Not even a photoresistor connected to a wheatstone bridge could measure any real
difference.
It still was, in a way, a upgrade. (the prenium one was ~10 cm longer)
I get my HDMIs from Poundland for £1 each.
Challenge: read the Amazon reviews and find a SERIOUS one.
Me: *sees this* “this looks hdmi cable looks kinda cool”
Also me: *buys DisplayPort instead*
Linus: Hey Wireworld can we review your $1,000 HDMI cable?!
Wireworld: Sure! Here it is!
Linus: *Posts this video
Wireworld: -_-
Nima Emrani they would never give it to anyone to review unless they had them in their pocket. They know they're selling snake oil so they need people who are on their payroll to keep the scam going.
Nima Emrani he said he'll have to spend 9k to buy another one so he bought the first one too
For long distance, i.e. instead of 1m the benefits of the cable could be seen in 25,50,100ft applications, refer to the comment he made about the cable that solved this issue for him LITERALLY just before he mentioned that
I see the problem with your test. You didn't use a flux capacitor to warp space and time to effectively to send more data down a time compressed cable. If you would have, the output would have been worth $1,000.
I just realized that the double helix strand inside of it if anything, only makes the wire needed to be at least double the length of the final length of the cable. Which would reduce the signal integrity. Good job Wireworld, good job.
Just overclock your current HDMI cable and it makes it the same as the $1000 one. If you can't run the oc program just download some more RAM.
Rumour has it that cable which he ordered from amazon was returned after shooting the video.
Why not?
Of course.
I wouldn't be surprised if it looks worse than a normal cable
The tuba on “because im now the proud owner of a $1000 hdmi cable” kills me
Darn how do you have so much money for this stuff. I had a deep breath of air for dinner.
when you get over 5 million views you get to buy overpriced crap and still make money
😂😂
What salamized said. Linus gets like 3 advertisers in each video now
Because he has like 18 Million net worth from all of us watching his videos, his youtube channel made him a millionaire.
He buys shit like this and files it as a work expense when he does taxes and gets a bigger refund
1000 dollars and they give you the shortest fucking hdmi I've ever seen.
+rallipappa Right? That cord is fucking useless. lol
Just let your PC dangle, I'm sure it can hold a desktop.
Linus, it's simple.
*$1000 = 1000% returns*
It just works
POUNDS NOT DOLLARS
@@Brekbo7826 IT DOESN'T MATTER
TheGreatPugtato you reply to one of my messages I sent 4 months ago ru serious
@@Brekbo7826 u respond for one that was 6
alright we need to test this cable
Certificate of authenticity... 😂
That makes it all okay. Funniest bit.
and aa fucking case XD
"We hereby certify the buyer is an authentic moron."
HDMI is digital, you could tape a ton of spoons together and it would work perfectly.
Well if they're all high end solid silver spoons perhaps.
Lol..
If it conducts it conducts :D
Tape you say... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
well, not absolutely true. for an hdmi to work the cables have tight capacitance and inductance as well as resistance that they need to get right or else it won't pass.
Who falls for this bullshit?
Transferring 1s and 0s over solid silver must really add to the vibrance and depth of the image! Sure…
People with a lot of money, and they do it because the can.
+uriituw well, if there's a lot of interference, the twisted geometry might actually do something. But only then.
this thing is actually made for hi-end hifi system, connecting cd/digital player and dac by iis interface
4k dislikes why do u guys come here
Wireworld probably bought those dislikes
Sadly this happens A LOT :-/
