If anyone needed a lesson in how to present complex information in a digestible form I would direct them to this channel and its siblings (including 'History Time'). Well done on another quality video.
1:52 If anyone else wondering why you need only 1 number to describe angular momentum of a black hole: This is because black hole is axially symmetric and the fact that we only describe black hole, not its position in space.

We are in a transformation from infinity density and zero space time to zero density and infinite space time. For this to happen all energy needs to be broken down into its smallest component (photons) before passing through a singularity where this information is transported into the past which is all we can observe. As more information passes through black holes it increases the amount of information in the past which expands into us into the future.
Your channel BY FAR has the most interesting videos on cosmology and quantum physics. I’ve been watching for a few years now and I’m always just as excited when a new video comes out. Thank you
I've watched every single thing this narrator has narratored, the entire history of humanity, earth and the universe and i can't get enough and can't wait for more. Keep 'em coming. Thank you.
Gravitational waves! Just the reality of spacetime itself oscillating is simply mindboggling. The nothing but quantum fields within which Earth hangs in its orbit about a star, that stuff, vibrates.... it's a WOW!
I second that. Most people do not like these intense science topics. They are happy never thinking about them. Oblivious and ignorant fools if you will. I love learning about these cosmic phenomena that represent the most extreme of nature. It terrifies most people because they are indifferent to it. I no longer care. I learn and enjoy it for me. Not anyone else
I’ve tried myself either they think I’m crazy or don’t really listen or care… so I just go back watching them alone in amazement but it doesn’t seem to translate to others. 😔
Can I just say how much I love this channel? I use it for three things mainly: 1) Learn or at least hear what I've already learned from a unique perspective 2) Fall asleep and 3) Wonder in awe of it all. I do 1 and 3 together when I first watch it. Then I get an old video and do 2 and 3 together. Some people get the existential creeps from cosmology. It only makes me feel more centered and serene. Thanks for the amazing videos :)
The most relaxing, anxiety-soothing voice talking about what I personally consider to be the second most mind-bending, existential-crisis-inducing subject in space. This is gonna be FUN.
Quick question. Are the pupils of our eyes similar to black holes? Besides the obvious. For instance. Light does not escape regardless if you've ever been told your eyes light up. Also, they both take in information that cannot be retrieved from.
Black holes have gravitational influences over more than just light. It's strong enough that, not even light can escape, but matter and radiation get captured by black holes.
When you get a prescription, the doctor can take a picture of the inside of the eye. Thus, light does escape from it. BTW, the flash is extremely bright. And green.
One of the best intros I've seen in a while, you guys simply do not miss!! Much love from Colorado, keep up the stellar work. More content should be of this knowledge/quality....
I can’t express how much I’ve appreciated your work across this channel and others. It’s been a staple for me for at least 4 years now. Keep up the good work!
I'm not sure if this is a compliment, but I find listening to your videos whilst I'm falling asleep extremely soothing. I have very severe anxiety disorder and this helps me a lot, Thanks for your content.
This channel is the most all encompassing describing of the frontiers of human intelligence in the field of physics. I grew up on "Cosmos", but this is better. Carl Sagan would be impressed! You belong on Netflix, or somewhere else where more people can see
Hands down the greatest UA-cam channel of all time. The quality and speed of uploads is just insane. And we're getting this for free... I watch and rewatch these videos often in my spare time and before sleep. Thank you, History of the Universe, never change!!
The only part of this video I find perplexing is the fact anyone would think a large black hole would be cooler than a small one? That makes perfect sense. The larger the surface area the faster heat can escape.
The heat of a black hole escapes as Hawking radiation. With a larger black hole, you have more wavelengths available for that radiation to escape as, including radio waves. However, the smaller the blackhole is, the shorter the available wavelengths become, so only high energy photons can be formed, meaning it has to be hotter.
Watching these makes me feel like inside a cave at pre-historical times , around a small fireplace ready tho hear a new story from the wise man of the tribe . It sure does .
I believe, we all have heard this, and can watch this type of video over and over again, the same type of video, but we still get excited when we see it, it must be crazy isn't it everyone? People
14:00 His book says after his diagnosis Hawking fell into a depression and stopped working. Only after 2 years when he was already supposed to be dead, he figured he might as well work.
I want to know if the singularity is really just made up of quarks or preons or whatever can withstand the gravitation force. What is a singularity in reality. And I want to know how time is affected inside a black hole. How long does it really take for something to fall into the singularity/whatever it is. Then I want to know how the planck length/density can affect what the singularity really is. Does it blow up like a white hole when the planck density is finally exceeded.
A singularity is a fancy term given to the middle-inside region of black holes where all of the mass resides. It represents the area of a black hole where our mathematics break down and no longer makes sense because it is approaching infinity. When approaching infinities in mathematical equations it means something is wrong.
