As someone that served in the Army in the 80s, I would gladly have taken an AK over M-16.

      I understand. They are reliable

I can't believe what vendors are asking for Comm Block AKs at the LGS. My Chinese Norinco that I bought for around $600 in 2014 has gone up in the asking price from $1200 - $1600. I couldn't imagine what a Russian AK would fetch. I've never seen one offered for sale at the gun shows.

AK's are known to be inaccurate. One different thing is the type of safety. The safety bar goes from safe to full auto then to semi auto. Western style is safe to semi to full auto. Soviet combat theory is to put as much bullets towards the forward edge of the battle arena as possible. The philosophy is "quantity is a quality of it's own."

I’ve never heard that. I do know that the M16s in the 80s would often jam with the slightest amount of dirt/sand. AKs had a reputation of being more durable/reliable. I and my fellow soldiers would gladly have taken an AK over a M-16 back then.

@mikebuck1897 the fact that they will run dry is a clear advantage over the AR platform
