Weezer accidently made one of the best debut albums of all time
and one of the best second album too jsjs
pinkerton was their debut - not the blue album
@@mam362blue came first in 1994. Pinkerton released after Rivers came back from Harvard
@@mam362 Nope.
THE best
“Watch me unravel I’ll soon be naked, lying on the floor I come undone…” She has the power to break him. All she has to do is hold one little thread 💔
Yea I don't think they were understanding what the song was about.
@@jackastor5265yep, they were taking it way too literally
Somebody in the comments suggested the band CAKE, I would like to second that suggestion. They are pretty quirky like Weezer but different, I know you would really enjoy them. 👍🍀
@@gggghhgggghbb CAKE is awesome.
@@gggghhgggghbb short dress, long jacket! ❤️
Weezer = Fun. They have so many good songs. They have been described as nerd rock.
What Jay and Amber said too is spot on. One thing I noticed today, listening to this song again, is that Weezer doesn't even attempt to sing parts of it "On key". From a musical standpoint, it's a disaster, a complete mess. And yet, I know they did that intentionally, and somehow it works to make the song better, not worse.
Deservedly. I mean, they got Weird Al to do vocals for them once.
The Blue album is in my top 3. I was a senior in HS in ‘94 and there was so much great music but Weezer grabbed a hold of me and I’ve loved them ever since
Yep, I remember those high school days. They had a fresh, unique sound. Everybody loved them. I don't recall anybody ever saying, "Man, I really hate Weazer." We were spoiled for great music in High School during the early 90's.
Not a bad song on that album.
Same ❤
93 here. They are so good sounding.
Class of '94 here as well. Weezer is by far one of my favorite bands. Their sound is so unique and the angstiness in their music defines many of us from that generation.
You have to remember this “dead pan” style of songwriting was new and novel at the time. A product of mid ninety’s grunge, but most Weezer songs are a little tongue in cheek anyways. The whole first album is a classic.
Yep, Cake & The Bloodhound Gang were also prime examples of the quirky, awkward, ironic geek-rock phenomenon
For some other really fun quirky bands you should listen to Cake and They Might Be Giants. I would love to see you guys smiling along to "Short Skirt Long Jacket" and "Birdhouse in Your Soul."
One of the very first girls I ever dated seriously at 17 was a HUGE TMBG fan. She obviously introduced me to them and they’ve held a special place in my heart ever since. Such fun!
Don’t forget Violent Femmes and The Presidents of the United States of America
Yes! I would choose You're Never There because it's my favorite of there's, or The Distance. But absolutely Birdhouse In Your Soul, I love that song so much.
Love Short Skirt Long Jacket, also love Sheep Go To Heaven.
Wow, I just suggested CAKE "Short Skirt Long Jacket" before I scrolled down to your comment.
This is so fun to sing just randomly…anywhere..it’s fantastic.❤
I just screamed LYING ON THE FLOOR! LYING ON THE FLOOR! when I saw what song it was 😂
YEAH WEEZER!!!. This was their first hit. The Kings of Geek Chic. I adore them. My daughter and I saw them live and I almost touched Rivers Cuomo. He is adorable, plays guitar, sings and writes most of the songs. Patrick Wilson is the drummer and he IS a funny dude. Matt Sharp is the bass player,.he left Weezer after their 2nd album and started a band called The Rentals. Their songs are well constructed, they're great musicians, Rivers is so talented and I love that they don't take themselves too seriously...just fun good music. You might want your next pick to be " Pork and Beans" "El Scorcho" or "The Good Life". "Hash pipe" is also great, but you may obviously find the name of the song a little problematic. But gosh really ...pick a song Anything from The blue album, Pinkerton, The green album or the red album would have me on my feet.
One of my favorite Weezer songs. Another one is Say it Ain't So.
Gotta do this one!
I love Say It Ain’t So and Only in Dreams.
Love Weezer. They created their own niche, so original. Great, fun band.
Yes they are a fun and unique band but we all must admit they're VERY Pixies-like...
@@Grizazzle Oh yeah, love the Pixies!!👍
This was their debut single that broke them, and it was always so quirky and cool. That first album (the blue album) is amazing, you should check out Say It Ain't So and In The Garage next.
They've done Say It Ain't So, although they did not mention that: ua-cam.com/video/PnYjIHg7cn0/v-deo.html
Yes! A reaction to In the Garage would be awesome! Probably my favorite on the whole album and there is not a bad song on the album
@@billebrooks Oh, that's right. At this point, it's hard to remember which they've hit by a band and which they haven't. :D
"Undone - The Sweater Song" first charted 10/1/94 on the Billboard Hot 100 eventually peaking @ #57. Produced by Ric Ocasek of The Cars. Huge hit on Alternative & College radio formats.
Nice! I didnt know it was produced by Ric Ocasek - thanks for that tidbit.
Geez, 29 years...and I was 25 when it came out ! One more like that and I won't be here to reflect.
There is a band with a very quirky name. They call themselves Toad the Wet Sprocket. They had a hit I still hear occasionally called "Walk on the Ocean."
Love Toad the Wet Sprocket! All I Want is another big hit for them. Lead singer very much looks like my high school bf
Something always wrong , my fav by them
That whole album was amazing
Love their track "Brother" - a song I keep deep in my own heart
love me some Toad!
Weezer recently did a cover of Toto's "Africa."
And Toto covered Weezer's "Hash Pipe"
I love Weezer so much. Another fun and quirky band I’ve always loved is They Might Be Giants. I recommend their song “Birdhouse in Your Soul.”
Hash Pipe and Beverly Hills are bangers! If you are looking for more nerd rock, check out Harvey Danger - Flagpole Stiletta! Killer song!
“Flagpole Sitta” I also liked “Save it for Later” by him.
Flagpole Sitta is SUCH a fun song
GenX angst right here. Just rock it out.❤
Another 90s band to check out is Everclear - wonderful, I will buy you a new life, am radio, father of mine.
Yes! Father Of Mine is so deep!
All of those are excellent songs!
Yesssss!
Yes, they need to do Everclear already… my pick is “Santa Monica.”
They're overdue to react to Everclear, so many of us have suggested them. Also Bare Naked Ladies and Crash Test Dummies
My Name Is Jonas is one of my favorite songs of theirs. Definitely worth a listen.
Love this song, it brings me back to 6th grade in 96/97
My kids sang this song all throughout their childhoods! 😂❤️
Yes! I love this song so much! Thank you for reacting to it🙌🏻❤️
Always fun with Jay checks how much time is left in the song
Weezer - El Scorcho! ¡Ay, caramba!
Amber, if you want some Weezer drumming awesomeness, do the last song off this album, "Only In Dreams". Dont worry Jordan, their is some unforgettable guitar and bass too. It's their best song in my opinion, and a bit of a musical journey type song like Bohemian Rhapsody, Free Bird, Hotel California, etc.. Just have an open mind, and I think you'll love it
Saw Weezer at Coachella 2000, really good live sound. (Jane's Addiction headlined!!).
Oh crap, I love this song.
This whole album is a classic. You gotta listen to all of it.
This is my favorite line-up of Weezer with Matt Sharp (bassist). I loved the way he used to harmonize with Rivers Cuomo (singer). He also had a really chemistry with the drummer (Pat Wilson) and they were fun to watch in concert. A sad part of history with this song is that Mykel Allen one of the spoken voices in the background and her sister Carli who lead the Weezer fan club died in a tragic car accident on the way to one of the shows in 1997. Weezer held a show at The Palace on August 15th, 1997 and all proceeds went to the funeral. After the show Rivers came out into the parking lot and sat with us and we all just talked for about 10 minutes.
***Their best rocking song is called "HASH PIPE"... and coolest chill song is called "Say It Aint So"****
This song perfectly encapsulates being a Gen X-er in college in the mid 90s.
this was peak mid 90's alternative music. Takes me back to high school. love this!
The end of this song is so fun to sing along to live. You guys have to see Weezer if they ever play near you!
They are such a fun band! You certainly need to check out more from them!
What many people may or may not know is this song relates to the hit song (although it's more of an 80s sounding Valley Girl type chat more than a song but love it to this day ) The Sweater sung by Meryn Cadell from 1992. If you guys haven't reacted to it already you have to now that you've heard the boy's side of the story by Wheezer.
Valley Girl by Frank Zappa (or any Frank Zappa) would also be a great choice.
I enjoyed the "Sweater" video. Very descript. Weezer had some subtle hints of The Dead Milkmen: " Bitchin' Camaro"
this band has bangers for days. Rivers is an absolute madlad
This song is about going insane in public. Here's some lyric analysis:
"If you want to destroy my sweater, hold this thread as I walk away" - Keep doing what you're doing as I drift further into insanity.
"Watch me unravel, I'll soon be naked" - Watch me drift into insanity, I'll soon be there, "naked" being full insanity.
"Lying on the floor, I've come undone" - Lying on the floor, I've become mentally undone.
This album defined my early 20's. The entire thing is amazing. I hope you get to all the songs.
This song is the first thing most of us heard from Weezer when they hit back in the 90s.
Going back to my high school days
My sons’ band played a bit of Weezer songs! Became a favorite! Try Beverly Hills! Which every time they play it they dedicate it to their Mom!! I’ve even gotten up and sang the Gimme, Gimme, gimme part! The best!! Mom loves rock n roll, sons love rock and roll!! ❤️
Always loved this band. Just sooo original! Both the entire "Blue" and "Pinkerton" albums are must listens from start to finish.
Edit: That said, "Pink Triangle" from Pinkerton would be my next recommendation.
Who among us hasn’t uttered the words “god damn she’s a lesbian” while in college?
😄
Yes!
To me, Weezer is the ultimate garage band. These dudes are playing down the street jamming in the hood
You guys should check out the video for Weezer's rendition of Africa. It's the same exact video as this, but with Weird Al 😂
Other Weezer: hash pipe, beverly hills (a fun song that gives sort of similar Buddy Holly vibes), pork and beans.
Other bands: Cake (short skirt/long jacket, the distance), presidents of the US (lump, video killed the radiostar)
Other ones to react to: tonic- if only you could see. Savage garden- i want you. Third eye blind- semi-charmed life, hows it gonna be. Hootie and the blowfish- only wanna be with you, hold my hand; bonus darius rucker- alright, dont think i dont think about it, it wont be like this for long (youll love this one). Del amitri- driving with the brakes on, roll to me. The wallflowers- 6th Avenue heartache (or heartbreak, my memory is failing). No doubt- just a girl. Garbage- I'm only happy when it rains, I think I'm paranoid. Jewel- foolish games, who will save your soul, you were meant for me.
All songs I think you'll really!enjoy for very different reasons
Edit to add on very important matchbox 20 songs: real world (!), bent, disease. those are just old suggestions, they've got good ones from later in the 2000s too
All great suggestions. Check out the comments, Everybody's asking for CAKE. (after all, who doesn't like cake?)
All great songs!
More Weezer please! "Everybody Get Dangerous", "Beverly Hills", "Automatic", "Troublemaker", "Hash Pipe", "Love Is The Answer", "(If You're Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To"
So you definitely need to do some CAKE. Maybe Stickshifts and Safety Belts or Short skirt and a Long Jacket.
Short Skirt! Yes!
"Short Skirt Long Jacket" is a must
I sing this song to people all the time. The ONLY person who even ever gets it, is my sister.
All you need is one, hahaha!
Another fun, quirky band with some catchy songs is OK Go... I would start with "Here It Goes Again"... Early song from there first album.
I LOVE WEEEEEEEEEEZERRRRRRR!!! So many great songs; some of my faves are Perfect Situation, Hash Pipe, Pork and Beans, Troublemaker, Say It Ain't So...
i need to start writing down the subs channels have when i subscribe to them. coming up on 500k? that's _awesome._
You can do every song off that album and won’t miss! All bangers!!
When the blue album came out (it's the first self-titled and this song is on it) I was thinking about buying - yes that long ago - and all my friends said it's amazing - way way way better than could be expected
Awesome song was my introduction to Weezer, Rick Ocasek from the Cars produced their Debut album, loved them now and still do. If you guys like this, you need to check out the band Lit and their song "My Own Worst Enemy"
MORE WEEZER!!! Only in Dreams, Hash Pipe, El Scorcho,…even Pork and Beans would be rad.
Early 90’s had the most creative rock music ever!!!
I love this song and Weezer is underrated, criminally underrated.
masterpiece
I love early Weezer! Please keep their reactions coming, you can't go wrong with anything up to their Maladroit album.
Weezer has so many good songs keep it coming "Buddy Holly" next
They did that, I think.
@@scottboswell6406 yup they did
They said at the start of the reaction that they've done Buddy Holly
The funnest video they ever made was "Keep Fishing" featuring The Muppets
Weezer is great, such a fun, unique band. That first album, Buddy Holly and Undone, just great.
Can't believe you haven't reacted to this song already. This is maybe my favourite song by them. When this came out, I was in grade 8; it was one of the first CDs I ever bought, and it was the best thing I'd ever heard in my 13 year old life. 😊 And it's still a fantastic album.
I found this on a jukebox at a county pool hall in N.C. I played it back to back just to see the reactions. I love Weezer, great live shows!
Literally the second time I hear a song during the day and wonder how RSR would react and boom there it is the same night. Great reaction!
If you guys really want to see how mature and musically talented Weezer could be, you have to check out their album Pinkerton. It came out after the Blue Album, and although it wasn’t quite as popular, it really showed how much they had grown as musicians. I think it’s most Weezer fans’ favorite album .
Ya'all keep falling for my wife's fave acts. As she calls them "her beloved Weezer
Just saw them playing at Budweiser Stage in T.O. 🇨🇦July 4th 🇺🇸 I was really blown away by their harmonies! It was a great night out 😊
Fury, Avant Garde, Zoom and finally Weezer. The transformation was good for all.
Jeff Beck - Cause We've Ended As Lovers - (Live at Ronnie Scott's) The full Concert is amazing ... please react to them .. greet´s from Germany
Nerd punk alternative rock! 😂 But all of us cool quirky crowd liked them. Check out the band Cake too. 90s my teen yrs. Gen X music
This was Weezers first hit, and there were several kinda quirky groups putting out interesting stuff in the middle 90’s from these guys, to Beck, Cake, and Primus
Yessss I loved the quirky bands, and Weezer is one of my faves! I'd also add Smash Mouth, Lit, and Blink 182!
Dead Milkmen were one of my faves
I never really liked Smash Mouth then there was the whole Nazi salute thing, Lit is cool, and I knew Blink-182 in H.S great guys but I am too into punk to like Pop-punk@@earth2kosmickitty
Indeed@@pazpino
This has always been my favorite Weezer song.❤
Sanchit chanana is the king star bezubaan this video please
Such a great band! So many good songs. I suggest "Buddy Holly" if you haven't given it a listen yet
Hi.. Luv your reaction.. Weezer was my favorite band and this song reminds me of when I was a teenager.. 27 years have passed.. now I'm 47.. Time passes too fast.. Luv from Malaysia.. 🇲🇾
This album was produced by Ric Ocasek (of The Cars) and this was their breakthrough song. Still a staple of alternative radio today... 'Nerd Rock' at it's finest!!!
Amber & Jay, here are some other Weezer good songs to react to: "The Good Life", "Hash Pipe", "Getchoo", "Beverly Hills", and "Beginning of the End".
I still love this one ❤
I never found out how she did it, but I had a cousin who somehow had an advance copy of Weezer’s debut album. As long ago as it was, she had it on cassette, and put it on in a car when a bunch of us were driving around. I caught parts of it. Then the amazing thing was when the album was officially released soon afterwards, I recognized some of the songs.
My fav Weezer song is HASH PIPE.
Amber: “They are soooo FUN!” You should see them in concert, I would put them 2nd only to RUSH in concert, they truly enjoy performing and it shows.
Hey Rob Squad. 3 of your 4 Weezer reactions were slower softer songs. U gotta check out their harder punk stuff, its catchy. HASH PIPE or We Are All On Drugs. would be great
Have you guys done THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS yet? Speaking of weird but brilliant and fun.
“El Scorcho” and “The Good Life” off their 2nd album Pinkerton are must-dos.
I saw their documentary "Live in Japan". OMG they are loved there. They knew all the words to "Islands In the Sun" which you ref'd.
I fucking miss the 90s.
I remember first hearing this song on the radio in summer of '94. Had no idea what I was listening to and me and my brother were just mesmerized by it. after the song, the DJ goes "and that's a new band getting popular out west. they're called the Weezy Boys". For months, I was trying to track down an album by a band called The Weezy Boys. Eventually "Buddy Holly" started peaking in the charts by this band called "Weezer" and i put two and two together after seeing Blue album on shelves everywhere. Great memories.
This song takes me right back to college! Great reaction. My favorite Weezer song is “Say It Ain’t So.” It’s a bit more serious.
One of my favs from my teenage years, they are so fun! Thanks for the reaction! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
“The Greatest Man that every Lived” is another fun song from them 😁
This song is frickin awesome, always will be so rad. 🔥 thank you guys😃✌️💯
Great live band music sounds great concert
Love Weezer!!! Do Say It Ain’t So by Weezer next!!!
They did it
Done about a year ago
I loved the Blue Album. Great listen all the way through. Definitely a fun record among the thematically darker music of the time. I feel like Blur, though they didn’t sound like Weezer, embodied some of the same creative spirit as them. I’d recommend Blur “Coffee & TV.”
This was my first Weezer song in 1994 I have been obsessed every since then ❤️
Awesome song. Sweater as a metaphor for the layers of persona, masks, fears, anxiety, outward appearance that protect one from your true self & insecurities.
Never heard it. Loved it! Great sound, fun lyrics, fun video. Great!
I've listened to them for years , great review !
“Say It Ain’t So” and “Hash Pipe” definitely have to be on the list.
They teamed up with Weird Al Yankovic to do an awesome cover of Africa by Toto.
✌️
Saw Weezer in 2011 and it just amazed me seeing thousands of people moving to this song. Loved it
I saw Weezer in the late 90's with No Doubt.
SO Early 90's!!! Jeez... I was 12 when this came out... and it was so awesome!!!
