“Come Out and Play”AND “Self Esteem”- Offspring. Both of you would like both of these songs! They were huge and played everywhere in the early 90s. Love for you to react to them!
Yes!
Those should be the next two.
Those two are probably their best, but "Original Prankster" and "Why Don't You Get A Job?" are definitely worth reacting to as well.
Add Gone Away to the list and you've nailed
Adding “Bad Habit” - Smash album was iconic
"Gone Away," "Why Don't You Get A Job" and "Self Esteem" are some suggestions for more from this band.
I love "Gone Away", but they already reacted to the cover by Five Finger Death Punch.
Gone Away hits me much harder after I lost my mom but it's a great song!
I love Why Don't You Get A Job!
All I Want is a criminally underappreciated pop punk song.
This song is about the street that the band grew up on, and all the people that they knew and what happened to them and how most of them didn’t live up to the potential that they all talked about when they were teenagers!! Pretty powerful song!!
The thing that always makes me nostalgic about this song is kids in my school used to call my street offspring street because half were addicted to heroin, 1 killed himself, 1 died in a 4 wheeler accident, one kids family lost their house and the bank took it but he was 18 so he told his parents he wasnt moving and lived in their abandoned house and showered at my house, and 1 girl had a kid. We all related to this. Almost 20yrs later even though none of us ended up where we thought we would (all crazy stories from disabled from an injury at 21 to a hair stylist in hollywood) we all reach out and keep in touch because we were together for 10yrs+ and consider each other family. Theres probably about 20 of us and we are all in contact a few times a year. In fact I reached out to the girl in Cali after I was having a mental health scare and 2hrs later her little brothers drove from a few counties away to be with me have a drink and talk about our childhoods. Gave me a pick up I dearly needed.
I was a few blocks away. Most of the kids on my street turned out all right. One was killed in a car crash when he was 16. Still hurts 40 years later.
Young people from that era often didn't realize that it takes drive, dedication and a good plan to be successful. You couldn't be successful by accident anymore, and their parents still thought just getting a job and working would be enough. Now it's glaringly obvious and young people know about that dreadful downward slide - so sad and I hope they can figure out a way to make a comeback. Nothing is sadder than young people without hope.
More Offspring! One of my favorite bands.
Lead singer you asked about is Dexter Holland, who has a PhD in Molecular Biology.
Yup. Dexter is definitely one of the more interesting and accomplished frontmen in music.
Almost 40 years in music
PhD
Owns his own hot sauce company - Gringo Bandito
Philanthropy- Ran the LA Marathon multiple times to benefit the Innocence Project, multiple benefit shows to raise money for the AIDS Project, Trees foundation, & Amnesty International.
Certified Pilot
He's written several peer-reviewed academic papers on microRNA & other studies in genetics. The dude is truly ALL that!
I have a friend in a local rock band, has a PhD in Microbiology AND Robotics. Crazy! Oh, that's right, us musicians are some of the most intelligent people on the planet.
@@joiedevivre2005 he started writing his phd back in the late 80's or early 90's, (shortly after or while greg graffin from bad religion was pursuing his own phd, which was shortly after milo from the decendants got his masters and went on to work for a chemical company) and it was about microRNA and the AIDS virus iirc.. he finally finished it a few years ago, and he was the commencement speaker at one the colleges at UCLA a couple years ago. the speech he gave is on youtube, and during it he talks about how he came up with the phrase "you gotta keep them separated".
And he's a pilot. Man, if I didn't love his music so much, I might hate him. I've also watched a number of interviews with him and he seems like a super cool dude.
I remember buying their 1st album ‘Smash’ in 1994 and I driving around all night listening to that album over and over. Good times. This song came out in 1998. I love The Offspring. You should check out ‘Come Out and Play’ and ‘Self Esteem’.
Smash wasnt their 1st album.
Their first album came out in 1985, I believe. It was self titled...just "The Offspring." They had a popular song called "Jenny Lost the War" or something along those lines, if I'm not mistaken.
*edit* I stand corrected...self titled was from 1989, not 85. And they were under a different band name in 85 anyways haha...so I would have been wrong either way.
Smash was pure genius start to finish ❤
@hollydeitch449 Ignition is good from beginning to end as well. Ignition is my favorite Offspring album.
@@scottyc3893 I know. Let me rephrase. Their first commercially successful album. I loved that album. I knew they were there before, I just don’t remember it.
The lead singer is Dexter Holland and he is a "brain". High School valedictorian, Ph.D. in molecular biology.
Oh, HELL YEAH!! I freakin' LOVE Offspring! Check out "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid"!!
"Self Esteem', 'Come Out And Play', or 'Why Don't You Get A Job' are some great tracks by this band.
I'm so glad you finally did more of The Offspring!! These are my picks for your next songs from them: "Gone Away", “Come Out And Play”, “Self-Esteem”, "Gotta Get Away", "Staring At The Sun", "Million Miles Away", and "Can't Get My Heat Around You."
The Offspring have a HUGE back catalog of awesome songs! One of my favorite bands of all time. "Gone Away" and "A Lot Like Me" are a couple of my personal favs, but there's so many good songs! Thanks for a great reaction video, love you two!
Self Esteem, Gone Away, You're Gonna Go Far Kid, Come Out and Play. All great songs
LOVE The Offspring! Gone Away, You're Gonna Go Far Kid, and Half-Truism along with this song are my favorites. More, please.
Born and raised in SoCal, and been hooked on them since Come Out and Play. Low key favorite of mine is She's Got Issues!
Fun fact.....Dexter and Noodles were sitting across the table from me at a KNAC night at Geckos in HB one night back in '98. Bought 'em both a beer! 😁
We love punk rock, alternative rock, and hip hop during the 90s. I was in HS those days.
MTV, BET, VH1, etc.
This was California surf punk BTW. Or just in alternative rock umbrella.🎸
"Come Out and Play" was the song that introduced me to Offspring. They have so many good songs!!!!
Your message is loud and clear, Amber and Jay!
It's been a year and a half since you've reacted to this band -- so I'll suggest "Queensryche - Silent Lucidity"
It is a masterpiece
Lead singers name is Dexter Holland. His real name is Bryan Keith Holland. He got the nickname Dexter because he was a certified GENIUS. He got his phd in molecular biology in 2017. He’s also a certified pilot and in 2004 completed a 10 day solo flight AROUND THE FREAKING WORLD.
Neato Torpedo!!
Lead Singer is Dexter Holland. Great 90's rock, and with some comedy on a couple of them. For another like Pretty Fly, check out "Why Don't You Get a Job". For more Rock style, check out, Gone Away, Self Esteem and Come Out and Play. Great band!
Just saw them live at the Shaky Knees music festival in Atlanta. They were so good!
"Gone Away", and "All I Want"!!! Awesome songs!
Upbeat music with a really dark story...have always loved this song!!!
This song is MUCH more indicative of the kind of music the Offspring is known for over “Pretty Fly…”. Which was basically a joke track that blew up as a radio and music video hit.
Gone Away by Offspring is a great song, yet they don't really have a bad song in their catalog
FFDP did a cover with a much different message
@dakotaman408 but The Offspring did it better.
When my Best Friend passed away this was the song that helped me cope. Today everytime I listen to it I feel like he is still here.
Pretty fly for a white guy is unlistenable.
song makes me tear up everytime, so much emotion
YOU MADE MY DAY!!!!! I am soooo glad you gave The Offspring another try. They have so many other hard rockers!! My quick suggestions:
Gotta Get Away; Self-Esteem; Defy You; Gone Away; All I Want; Can't Get My Head Around You; Come Out and Play (Keep 'em Separated)
Deep cuts: Amazed; Vultures; Dirty Magic
The album this song was on (Americana) had some other great songs like "Staring at the Sun", "She's Got Issues", and "Why Don't You Get a Job".
Other great songs from The Offspring are "Self Esteem", "Want You Bad", "Gone Away" (original version), "Hit That", "Original Prankster", "We Don't Have Sex Anymore" (from their latest album), "Sprare me the Details", "Bad Habit", "Worst Hangover Ever"
I love how much you’ve grown in your music taste. I remember the days of this sucks all I hear is loud noise this isn’t music lol
I totally forgot about Offspring, crazy number of top tier songs! When I was a contractor remodeling all day it was……Offspring, Scorpions, Y and T, Triumph, early Van Halen. The work day went by like a breeze. Life is good! Thank you!
One of the things that made Offspring's songs so deep is that Dexter Holland the lead singer and songwriter has a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from USC. When you understand life at the molecular level it is easy to see how he understands life at the grand level their songs usually comment on. Please react to "Gone Away" it is one of the most emotional songs you will ever hear, If Jay doesn't cry I would be in awe.
I read that he was also his high school valedictorian.
They have so many great songs. Loved 90’s alternative rock. They are great live.
I love that quote, "the nineties just did rock different"...so true...so true.
Saw them last Summer on the Let The Bad Times Roll tour. They still rock, and I recommend seeing them.
This was my High School Skater days. The nostalgia is strong with this band
They are AMAZING live. I have seen them countless times already. My favorite was at Red Rocks in Colorado. What an unbelievable show.
The lead singer is actually some kind of physist. And currently a college professor.
What propelled the in to stardom was the song "Self Esteem" from their third album Smash from 1994. "Come Out and Play" form the same album is another good shoutout.
The lead singer is called Dexter Holland and the guitarist Kevin "Noodles" Wasserman.
Other notable songs are "Why Don't You Get a Job?", "Gotta Get Away", "Original Prankster" "Want You Bad", "
A Million Miles Away", "Hit That", "You're Gonna Go Far, Kid", "Kristy, Are You Doing Okay?", "Days Go By"
I'm a little older than you to the 90s music video scene was fire. Locally we had the Box which was on broadcast TV you could call in and get on the play song. We had VH1 MTV BET none of which play Music Videos today. I mean MTV and VH1 used to be like the radio turn it on just listen to it
The drummer is like Superman on this song !
Damn this tempo is INSANE .
“Gone away” will forever be my favorite Offspring song ❤
"The Kids Aren't Alright" is absolutely timeless. Back when we were in high school (no matter who you are or your age) we all knew every single person Dexter sings about in this song. I love this song to death.
The Offspring are a bit different for you guys.
I hope you like them.
You gotta try “Self Esteem”
The Offspring had such a re introduction into the mainstream charts with this album!!
'I Want You Bad' & 'Original Prankster' are two other great songs from this era of 'The Offspring'
Self Esteem is a track from there first run that I think you will love!! 🤘🤘
Oh Jay!!! 90s is one of the best decades ever. Grunge, hip hop, boy bands, country, Metallica!!! All blew up. Not all my cup of tea but can't dispute the influence. Embrace the 90s.
I grew up in the Era they are talking about in orange county and this song tells a true tale of a lot of neighborhoods in the the OC
I always loved The Offspring, always been one of my favorite bands, and I gotta say that "The Kid's Aren't Alright" is one of my favorite songs, one that I deeply identify with, and that always makes me cry with memories from my life and close friend's lifes
'Come Out and Play’ , ‘Self Esteem' , 'All I want ',
The two songs you have reacted to so far are from 'Americana' -when this album came out, I remember that it was considered the end of the "good, old, punk rock Offspring" and started to be more "commercial". Now I'd look at it probably differently, but those were our thoughts in high school when Americana came out ;)
Great reaction! You may want to check out 90s/2000s Green Day Songs...
"When I Come Around”, “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, “Holiday”, “ Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”, and “Basket Case.” 💚
Even their earlier stuff before Dookie.
Wow that's right, they haven't done any Green Day. How is that possible. All good suggestions from you.
When I come around is great!
The lyrics of this are inspired by Dexter Holland’s real experiences revisiting his old childhood neighborhood as an adult and learning that so many of his former friends and peers had basically gone through hell and worse since childhood. A lot of the band’s songs use these kind of themes and stories from their own lives and those they love(d).
Oh my! Y'all have gone to the edge! HaHa! The Offspring is a great band with an awesome Lead Singer, Dexter (a.k.a. Bryan Keith Holland). Dexter is multi-talented and gifted. He is an entrepreneur, selling his own Hot Sauce brand labeled as Gringo Bandito - I ordered some like 10 years ago - it was a boxed set with his autograph and I still have the empty bottles today. Dexter is also a certified pilot. Dexter recently completed his PhD in Molecular Biology, and the list goes on! He is quite accomplished. But, I love him MOSTLY FOR HIS MUSIC, OF COURSE!!! Other great songs to check out from The Offspring are: *COME OUT AND PLAY* *SELF ESTEEM* *HIT THAT* *GONE AWAY* *ORIGINAL PRANKSTER* *HAMMERHEAD* and my absolute favorite, *FIX YOU* which is only 1 of 4 rock songs that literally makes me cry beautiful tears. The other 3? I'll say that if y'all get around to reviewing them. Heehee!!
‘Come out and play’, their first big hit. You have to listen to this. It was a game changer at the time
My favorite of their songs will always be "Bad Habit", especially when I would drive. Just a great angsty road rage kind of song. LOL Other ones, "Come Out And Play", "Self Esteem", "Gotta Get Away", "Something To Believe In" and "Genocide" are great. Love this band. 😎👍
I have been showing my niece amd nephews you too!! You guys are wonderful! They love you, and now appreciate uncle Dan's music easier!!👌
Gone Away is simply their best song... one of the best songs of the 90s even. Dexter digs deep down in his emotions after the death of his girlfriend to create this masterpiece.
Poor guy. No body should go through that
Such a powerful song…. Covered by so many bands live!!
My kids were raised on The Offspring! So many great songs to choose from…. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
This was always my favorite by them. Came out when I was in high school.. hit hard. 🎉
I've always loved this song, but this is the first time I've seen the video! GREAT!
Love The Offspring. The energy is off the charts for these guys as always.
The singer is Dexter Holland, who is a molecular bioogist but music was his thing. The offspring are considered Pop Punk and they are one of the best California Punk bands!
Gone Away!!! I love this band, bought all their CDs, and I’ve been to two shows. Gone Away is the kind of song that’s amazing on repeat when you’re in a certain mood.
Come out and Play is my driving jam. Very special band, with some iconic tunes! Great reaction! ❤
The Offspring was one the bands to kickstart the pop-punk renaissance in the mid-late 90s (along with Green Day); they did do a lot more novelty songs later on ("Pretty Fly For a White Guy", "Why Don't You Get a Job", etc.), but when they got serious, this band was an absolute steamroller- this song, "Gotta Get Away" (a personal favorite), "Self Esteem", "Come Out And Play", "Bad Habit". This song in particular showcases the talent singer/ guitarist Dexter Holland and second guitarist "Noodles" had at pulling out dueling riffs learned from 80s Orange County hardcore bands like Agent Orange an The Adolescents.
This song sums up all the friends around my husband and I growing up. A few didn't make it past their 20's.
The genius of the Offspring is that they hit on serious issues while the sound is poppy and fun
"Gone Away" is an amazing offspring song. Highly recommend. Changed my life
They did "Gone Away", but it was the Five Finger Death Punch cover of it.
this song i could really relate to....growing up in a village back when life seemed to be much more simple and kids doing what kids do until DRUGS and other stuff destroyed the hopes and dreams of the people I grew up with....although sometimes Life Chooses Us...and some people do achieve whta they dreamed in life its so sad looking back how certain choices in life are quite irreversible due to the danage it has done overtime....I miss those days when every kid in my village has a certain aura of hope, craziness, fun, and innocence...back when we were young...i miss those smiles.
California 90s punk rock at its finest! Grew up listening to this band & I’m really glad you reacted to this one. Next one could be “Self Esteem”, out of the 1994 album Smash. Or anything from that record, since all the songs from that one are 🔥!!!
Have you heard Bad Habit yet? My favorite Offspring tune.
Yes!!! 🙌🏼
Best driving song ever.. lol
@@CPBarre for me it's Radar Love but to each their own.
Fire 🔥
One of my favorite bands from the 90's. Rockin band with statements to make and deep meaning in many of their songs. Dexter (lead singer) is brilliant but the band is so talented. You need to check out - "Self-Esteem", "Gone Away", "Why Don't You Get a Job", "Million Miles Away", "Want You Bad". This band had so many incredible songs so keep going down this rabbit hole. You won't be disappointed.
Love The Offspring!! “Gone Away”, “Gotta Get Away” to name a few!! 🤟🤟🤟
Ooohh yeah baby! That's what I'm taking about!!! 😎
Offspring has so many great songs! Y’all MUST go down the rabbit hole ❤
While emblematic of the 90s, offspring stretched way into the oughts and 10s with some great songs.
Saw them live once at Warped Tour in the mid 2000s. One of my favorite bands.
The 90s were perhaps when rock music was at its most diverse. You had the massive grunge movement of the early 90’s, alternative music really dominated, metal bands were still going strong, and there was the emergence of nu-metal and industrial music. As well, there was a “revival” of punk rock music brought by Green Day, The Offspring and others like NOFX.
“Gone Away” is a slower ballad style (but still rock) song that I think you guys will enjoy. Cheers from Canada 👋🏻 🇨🇦
I love The Offspring
Yep, also told my dad this band would last - try 'Come out and play', 'All I want', 'Gone Away', 'Why don't you get a job', 'Hit that' .....
This song never gets old.. reminds me of my childhood when the whole block used to hang out.. miss those days!!
Offspring is awesome, my favorite all time offspring song is "gone away".. its a very deep song, and its been covered a hundred times by artists of all genres. A true masterpiece.
Love The Offspring!!!
Song's about the neighborhood I grew up in. Offspring guys were a few years behind me at Pacifica HS. One of my best friends taught Noodles how to be an elementary-school janitor when they were in college.
Thanks for this song! I love these guys. Fun fact, the lead singer Dexter Holland has a degree in molecular biology. So yeah, rocker and scientist!
Something great about the 90s was kids weren't just rap or rock but kids listened to every genre and you had a favorite r&b song a fav rap a fav techno a fav rock and a fav ska band all at once
Love me some Offspring! “Come Out and Play”, “Self Esteem”, “Hit That”, and my personal favorite, “Why Don’t You Get a Job”, are all fabulous and worth a listen!
The lead singer, frosted tips spiky hair dude, Dexter is a genius, 160 IQ and a PhD in molecular biology from MIT. He certainly uses his intellect to put a different spin on his music.
Late 90s early 2000s punk rock! So awesome! Dexter and band mates definitely use a lot of social commentary. Pretty Fly for a White Guy was definitely commenting on a dweeb white kid trying too hard to be cool and emulating his hip hop idols rather than being himself.
for me some of the best 90's post grunge rock songs are "tommorow" by Silverchair, "Bound for the floor" by Local H, and 2 greats by puddle of mudd are "blurry" and "Control" (High energy Hard Rockin music)
This was my favorite band back in the day! Did you know the lead singer, Dexter Holland, now has a phD in Micro Biology?!
Hi from England. Something a bit different. If you haven’t already check out Gabrielle, ‘ Rise ‘ I know you’ll both love it 🙂
Dude. I love this band. React to their songs Why Don't You Get A Job and Gone Away.
I've been a fan since their first hit "Gone Away", which is a hard hitter also. Got to see them once and it was one of the best shows I have seen. You'll find that they can also have fun with their music and that is such a good thing to see.
Come out and Play was my introduction to the band and it's definitely a banger!
90s ruled. Was a freshman I'm 91 so I got to see all the cool shit. Grew up outside of LA so went to many shows, mainly punk shows
Great song, also became famous for appearing during the opening credits for the " buffy, the vampire slayer" TV show
Curious what you make of Lit - My Own Worst Enemy
The 90s had quite a few punk or punk adjacent bands that you ought to check out - Less Than Jake, AFI, Lit...
Fun fact the Drummer Pete Parada is from our hometown… his father taught music in our Middle/High School. That’s our small town claim to fame along with Bill Pullman who’s father was a Dr. In our hometown as well
I loved The Offspring in high school. I especially love that the lead singer, Dexter Holland, fairly recently finished a PhD in molecular biology. So cool.
I don't understand how I'm just seeing this today...?????
LOVE The Offspring! I was 28 when this came out!
The title is a play on the song "The Kids Are Alright" by The Who (1966)
I wore out the Offspring “Smash” album back in the 90’s! My hour ride to work and back was rockin! Made the commute feel like 15 minutes!
Thank you for this. Don't wait so long to do another! SO much energy in their music. I suggest SELF ESTEEM next. That's probably my fave. COME OUT AND PLAY is also great. You can see why they were so popular with skateboarders. Pumps you UP!
“She’s Got Issues” by The Offspring
You cannot go wrong with Dexter Holland and Noodles! Offspring is sick! One of my favs! This album, Americana, is a 90's classic!
You all absolutely right. This song fits very well for today.
Offspring are a great band and they have fun songs (Get a Job), rebellious songs, and uplifting songs. I especially like the title track to their 2012 album Days Go By.
